Does anyone think that maybe we're just wrong?
by paul from cleveland ini was disfellowshipped in 1995. even though i lost my friends and family, i felt like i had been finally set free and was happy for many years.
while i was a jehovah's witness, i always felt so miserable.
i never felt like i was doing enough to please jehovah.

Thanks for that Yellow. Do you have family that's still in? I think that's the main thing that keeps most of us in, because we don't want to be shunned by those close to us.

My catholic relative was telling me yesterday how they were receiving info (pamphlet or something) from high up in the church how marriages are falling apart left, right and centre. I guess maybe its a regular thing in most religions now?

New here
by goldensky indear all,.
i discovered this site only a couple of weeks ago and i already feel affection for you.. i am a 48-year-old woman and i live in spain, where i was born and raised, so i apologize in advance for my inevitable lack of style and possible grammar mistakes, due to english not being my native tongue.. i grew up in the truth and jehovah and the congregation have filled my whole life.
i've had little contact with the outside world.

Welcome! You sound wonderful!
How did your family take your decision? Were you DA then? And does your family try to urge you to come back?

A few questions concerning Jehovah's Witnesses doctrines
by garyneal infor those familiar with my postings already know, i am a christian who is married to an active jehovah's witness (though not yet baptized).
we discuss issues concerning the witnesses and their doctrines and have had "bible studies" with one of the elders.
i've asked her about some of these things and i would like to share her responses and see if it lines up with watchtower teachings.. can a police officer become a jehovah's witness?.

For my entire growing up years I was told Jw's could not become policemen, so out the window went my career choice. Only in recent years, maybe even more recent than that, has it been brought out that yes they can, but for the reasons TD mentioned, cannot be given privileges in the KH. One of the reasons my brother faded was because he wanted to be a policeman but was told he couldn't be. He is now a policeman :)

Marley Cole's "Jehovah's Witnesses - The New World Society"
by witnessgirl inwell, i just finished reading marley cole's "jehovah's witnesses - the new world society" book from 1955. i'll provide a few quotes to introduce it in case you aren't familiar with the book.
ray franz in crisis of conscience, p74, 2004 hc edition: cole wrote the book as if he were a non-witness writing an objective account.
the idea was that by having the book published by an outside publishing firm it might reach persons who normally would not take society literature.

If he was a reporter, then it served the WT well to have a recognised name (who was also a witness) write something they knew people would read because he was widely known and respected. I've never heard of him, or seen the book before.

Why was he chosen to write the book? Was he already an author?

Yes, alot of Jw's I know/knew were drunks. Like Shamus says, its the only thing they are allowed to do (drink), though they may get counselled if they become drunk. But so many do it.
