If you believe JW theology then Job proved imperfect humans could be faithful. Jesus proved perfect humans could be faithful, and his murder gave all humans the right to eternal life. Remind me what the 2000 years since Jesus were for?

On Jerkhovas Witlesses, Kingdumb Hells, Filthful & Discreet Slavebugger and Pio-sneering . .
by nicolaou ini detest this type of posting.
it's only my opinion of course and so long as forum rules aren't breached we're all free to express ourselves as we see fit.
doesn't mean i have to like it though.. honestly, can't you make your point without this kind of infantile name calling?

I agree with Mad Sweeny
I agree with the point that that type of lingo probably does more harm than good (It's the sort of crap that drove me away from here when I first lurked here 8 years ago).
The thing that turned me off from this site years ago was the corruption of the name Witnesses (and others) use for God - Jerkhover, Jehoober etc that can seem blasphemous and truely shocking to a lurker - any comment that used those terms I'd skip.
The term piosneer however is a thing of beauty. It's so apt.

Any explanation from WT about the missing tribe in Rev. chap. 7?
by heyfea ini don't think i ever heard a reference from the wt about the fact that in chapter 7 of revelation, one of the tribes of israel, dan, is missing and replaced with the tribe of manasseh, who's joseph's son (jacob adopted joseph's son as his own).. since the wt insists that the 144,000 "jews" are not literal jews, then why jesus didn't simply mention all the original tribe names in revelation?
it really wouldn't have made a difference, right?.
ah, but what if these 144,000 jews, are really jews?

who succeeded Fred Franz not as President but the theological guru
by ex-Special Pioneer infor decades fred franz was the guru of the watchtower bible & tract society.
he was obsessed with "biblical prophecy" trying to explain the book of daniel and revelation.
who took over after he stopped writing and who is considered the authority on the jws teaching today especially the so called "prophetic interpretation?

Blondie:
Brother Cut and Paste and Brother Throw It In the Air and See what Sticks
Ha, very funny and true.
There has always been a twin strand in the JW leadership. You have the prophetic/mystic side as exemplified by CT Russell and Freddy Franz and the authoritarian/corporate side as typified (anti-typified
) by Rutherford and Knorr.
Since Freddy died, no-one of enough influence and stature has taken over the mystic side, hence now the organisation is imbalanced. This is shown by the more and more legalistic / organisational emphasis in the literature and meetings. There is now virtually no emphasis on doctrine. Everything is about how to follow the rules whether in personal life or in preaching.
A typical watchtower study is broken down like this:
Oh dear Things Are Bad. Humans need rules.
These are the rules.
How lovingly God provided the rules.
Abraham/Noah, David and random minor Prophet followed the rules.
Jesus/Paul followed the rules (optional)
How we can follow the rules today.
How we can help others follow the rules. That's about 3 weeks worth of 'study' material.

Changing doctrines versus Core doctrines
by Mad Sweeney inis there any wt doctrine you think is not subject to change ever?
any doctrines you feel may change some day but no way in the next several decades?.
i was just thinking about those of us younger than 50. if we live to a healthy ripe old age, just how different will the jws be then from what they are today?

no disrespect meant but -
by therevealer inbarr was certainly a man with the appearance of kindness and since he is now deceased no disrepect is meant or inferred.
but does this elderly gentleman inspire thoughts of one who could or should help direct millions of followers.

I met him a few times. He was a lovely, kindly man. His qualities didnt equip him to stand up to the organisational autocrats. I think he is the type of man who would have been happy and content being a country vicar, or community doctor. Anything where he could care deeply for the people, but not have to think too hard. Jack Barr was not a politician.

The Phasing Out Of The Public Watchtower Magazine
by dontplaceliterature ini've been thinking about this for a while now.
it seems to me that the wtbts is taking steps towards phasing out public editions of the watchtower.. here are a couple of points of evidence to see there is a real possibilty for a move in this direction:.
1. the monthly "start bible studies on the initial call service day" is evidence of a more direct drive to recruit new members.

Pirata "I wouldn't be suprised to see the Public Edition of the Watchtower and Awake merged together"
Yes, I agree. They could do a monthly public edition of "The Watchtower incorporating Awake! or they could cut back further and go to quarterly editions. I think they'll emphasize tract work & then straight into the Bible teach book.

How many of your elders & servants are "Preachers Who Are Not Believers?"
by Franklin Massey inmany people in positions of teaching others the doctrine of their particular religion do not actually believe the doctrine themselves.
this is a fascinating article from daniel dennett and linda lascola.
i could relate to some of the expressions made.. http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/non-believing-clergy.pdf.

The society says that wearing smart meeting clothes to and from the convention "gives a fine witness". Therefore wearing meeting clothes in the ministry "gives a fine witness". Therefore from the moment you step outside your house to the moment you step back inside and change is fine witness giving hours.
Basically brothers, if you need to up your hours, just count all the time you wear a tie.

My mom throws a not so subtle threat my way
by JWinprotest inmy fade is going well, but my mom knows full well what my thoughts are on the wts.
it seems that she feels comfortable just ignoring the situation in order to keep seeing her grandchildren.. the other day however we were talking about someone we know who is making it very difficult for her parents to see their grandchild.. then out of the blue, my mom turns in my direction and says, that if any of her kids try to deny her from seeing her grandchildren, she would take them to court and get a court order to force them to let her see them.. i know what the message was, and it was loud and clear.
she is letting me know that if i get disfellowshipped there's no way i can keep the kids away from her.

Turn the threat back. Say you think a relationship with grandparents is really important for your kids, BUT that you would never allow anyone who abuses you by shunning or emotional blackmail to maintain a relationship with your kids. You wouldnt want your children to be taught that shunning and emotional blackmail are good tools to use in human relationships.
