I would say - give yourself permission to think.
Allow yourself to investigate the things you've mentally put in your 'wait on Jehovah'' file.
here is my advice to jehovah's witnesses everywhere.. .
it is okay to treat each day as if it were your last if it makes you more grateful, humble and kind.. but, if it becomes your excuse for neglecting your life, your sense of charity, your education and your humanity---then, shut the hell up about end times and make a new beginning.. start with here and now....today....improving this world any way you can.
stop thinking of everybody else as some kind of "enemy" that deserves to die if they don't read your magazine.. the sooner you comprehend that your truth is just another opinion the better off you'll be.. oh, and try loving people who don't think the same way you do.. start with those brothers and sisters you've been turning your back on.
I would say - give yourself permission to think.
Allow yourself to investigate the things you've mentally put in your 'wait on Jehovah'' file.
this weekend serious sources told me that in the netherlands the society is closing down all non-native congregations.
because of the mixed population of this country, there are >100 non-native congregations like english, france, dutch-caribian, arab, chinese, italian, russian, spanish etc.. my source was backing the dissision of the society because "these non-native congregations are islands on their own, with group-thinking and not allways listening to the society..." and concluded "these non-natives has to learn dutch instead of we are learning their language".. strange: some years ago many jw's learned a foreign language (like arab or chinese!
) and now they are all closing down.
I could see this happening. I think the reasoning could be that the foreign language congregations are a drain on the majority language congregations. In London, from my own observation, I would say a majority of young pioneers move from their home congos to foreign language congs. This allows the young bros & sis to gain a measure of spiritual autonomy which is desirable especially if your father is an Elduh. The foreign lang congs can sometimes get a reputation of being a law unto themselves... some of the Spanish lang congs (in London) are considered good for social stuff.
So the English lang cong lose many of their pioneers meaning their own FS arrangements are not as well supported. The foreign language congs also take up time slots for Sunday meetings, slots for midweek meetings and, listening to accounts servant gossip, do not pull their own weight financially.
It would make sense from the societies viewpoint to re-integrate the foreign language congregations. The English lang congs would get a boost of pioneers and elduhs, more slots for meeting times are opened up, the English language ministry gets a boost and maveric congregations are disbanded.
the past few days i've been thinking about how life has changed since leaving the witnesses.
except for just a few, my former friends have been completely replaced by apostates.
who would have ever thought...i sure didn't.
Merry Christmas All!! Thankyou Simon
we hooked up with a family member who is married and in bethel 15+ years.
it's almost too exhausting to go into the details here so i'll condense everything into a few main areas that were talked about over a few days.. bottom line, my wife and i finally let them know that we are not jw's anymore and so far it looks like they aren't going to shun us.
we had a really nice time with them and their witness friends who assumed we were jw's too and couldn't have been nicer.. our bethelite family members had no idea what we had been through at the hands of he elders that was the final shove out of the organization and were in agreement that things were handled badly.
exwhyzee - thanks for this. This is a similar conversation I had with my parents when I decided to 'come out' as a non-believer.
I think many many people in the older generation (using the actual sense of the word) feel that something is not quite right with the organisation, but are afraid to follow that thought because they dont see a viable alternative to 'the organisation'.
I feel sorry for those in their 50s & 60s. They preached 'this generation will by no means pass away' for so many years, - they truely believed they would NEVER have to grow old and die, and now they are uncomfortably left with the feeling that they themselves will pass away in this system. They are truely to be pitied.
well, that is what the title should say.
it actually says, "why are people so angry?
" i think it's funny because anytime i try to say anything to a jw that is not praising the f&ds and the org, i get nothing but anger from them.
The Kingdom Hall at times can remind one of a hybrid made up of equal parts Psych ward and a juvenile detention center. It's full of people on antidepressants, antianxiolytics, and antipsychotics...loyalty to organization based off of a perveted interpretation of a parable
Very, very good post NRFG.
we miss you, hope to see you soon.

I'm worried about instabilty in Iraq, instability if Iran gets the bomb, tension on the India/Pakistan border, conflict in Israel, religious conflict in Nigeria, oppression of women in Saudi, the crushing of the Syrian uprising etc etc etc.
I don't expect the US to sort it all out.

Many elders have trained publishers to look up articles by using the Index...
Seriously! They think people, sorry, 'publishers' have to be trained to use an index?
Maybe if they let the publishers get some education...
Well, you see Brother Born-in, 'A' comes before B. I hope that helps you to resolve your question with the help of the publications.
today i saw a friend that is still a hardcore jw.
she knows we're not going to meetings, but seemed pretty cool with it and was willing to have lunch with me, so i thought why not?
she mentioned something about the convention coming up in a couple of weeks, and all of the sudden i got so nostalgic and felt like maybe i wanted to go.
Nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia! It wasnt all bad and it's perfectly normal to miss people.
Complete hoax. Just look at the picture. Look at the 'spade' the 'archeologist' is holding.
