I guess I was ashamed of the JW religion...
by Jim_TX inwhen i was a kiddo growing up, i wasn't one of those that we all heard at assemblies giving their experiences... "here, let me show you the answer from the bible..." <reaching into their a** bringing out a bible>.
no, i would sit there in the audience, and think... that person has balls to do that.. when i went to grade school, i tried to keep as low of a profile as possible.
it was bad enough that i had to start the day by not saying the pledge of allegience like all the other school kids.

No birthdays, and in a class of 30, it seemed like someone was having a birthday every week, bringing in biscuits or cake that I wasn't allowed to have. Harvest festival, Halloween, Guy Fawlkes night, Christmas, Valentines, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's day. All little school events where I wasn't allowed, I couldn't take part, I was separate, different, not meant to make friends with the 'worldly children'.
Still, I made life long friends with my age group at the kingdom hall. The same lifelong friends who barely speak to me now I'm 'inactive'.

Teenage Jehovah's Witness loses court bid to refuse life-saving blood transfusion
by Sapphy inhttp://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-09-27/jehovahs-witness-loses-bid-to-refuse-blood/4985476.
interesting verdict, that despite the judge "...noting he was highly intelligent, a "mature minor" and devoted to his faith, the judge also found the boy had been "cocooned in that faith" for his entire life.".
the young man is 18 in 5 months and will be able to refuse treatment after that.

Very good article here, giving more details, sent by a friend.

"Apart from ripping out the IV if he could, X and his father would otherwise obey the court order, Judge Gzell found."
Sigh

How Do I Explain To My TalkTherapist That JW's Believe They Will Never Die?
by LoisLane looking for Superman ini know for us exjw's that have awakened from this religion, it seems incredulous that we ever.
could have believed we were going to live forever and never die.. not just never die, but never die, like i was raised to believe with.
the millions now living will never die, garbage.. i said that to my highly educated professional therapist last week.. her eyes got big, and she said gently as to a child, "loislane, we are all going to die".. yes, i know that now, but that is not what my religion taught and i believed, for 60 years.. any thoughts on how i explain this lunacy to her?.

zeb - The prospect of never dying is global, I was certainly sold that when I was gowing up:
Note this quote is from 2005, so even after the 1914 generation teaching was changed!
"Jesus indicated that a similar day [to the Flood] is coming in our time. Those heeding the knowledge associated with this event will have the prospect of not only surviving but also living forever. In addition, the dead who are in Gods memory will be raised to life with the prospect of never having to die again. ... All evidence shows that this day is very near, which means that you may never die at all." Watchtower 2005 Apr 15 p.5"

Nostromo - I think you're right. The July 15th new light impacts on their interpretation of so many parables that they are going to have to rework them.
The 10 virgins, the talents, maybe even the dragnet must all be up for change.

Wow TheoldHippie - if they revamp the flood to being a local event, or biblical human timelines to being symbolic, that would be amazing!
