Having been brought up in the cult. I left school with virtually no qualifications . I still managed to become a company director in the city though. I write and I am surrounded by people within my profession who all have degrees and even MBA's so I am not a complete idiot!

Is there anyone on the GB who has more than a high school certificate?
by Lady Lee insome time this week i will be interviewed by a couple of university students doing a project on jehovahs' witnesses.
the one i spoke to knows very little about them.. it will be an interview on my personal experience as a jw but from her initial phone call we saw that my answers easily led to more questions.
she doesn't realize she is talking about a cult but began to get the idea that the wts has a lot of control over the lives of jws.. so the education thing came up and i explained how education beyond high school was not encouraged and even though they give lip service to it post-secondary education is still not highly recommended.. which got me to thinking.

You hit the nail on the head my friend. He HAS lost his mind. You are right not to want to live your life unhappy and I truly feel that unless you find the will to empower yourself you will happiness will elude you. Wishy Washy Witnesses give everyone around them grief, including themselves, nothing but grief. My blood sister is one of those. I made the choice years ago to distance myself when I moved away far from her negative energy and confused state of mind. Getting shunned by two adjoining congregations I had grown up with was nothing in comparison to having to work through family fun and games. I do hope you find some terra firma very soon or that one of your sons finds the courage to put your dysfunctional husband in his place once and for all. If he firmly believes that this is the true religion representing the one true god then argue that no ammount of harrasment will do anything to sway your relationship with Jehovah. What is in your heart is non of his concern. That should shut him up. Emotional abuse is just that and dont forget that is what he is serving you and your sons.
Big hugs from London x

I grew up in a house where there was spirit activity on a regular basis. I remember the elders being called in on several occasions. I also used to see smoky Grey shapes in the doorway to my bedroom. I never mentioned this to anyone yet my sister who is 20 years older than me told me she had seen this herself years later when she used to have the room I slept in. My mother was also punched in her sleep and was left with bruises on her.. Then there was a water spirit that used to leave smoke smelling water all over the place. I have no doubt there are other realms out there, I don't really have much choice. There was always the evil fear factor attached to this subject so I have pushed the limits of this in my adult life and since leaving the organisation. I have dabbled as they say more as my way of confronting what I experienced as a child.

How many XJWs went onto another faith....?
by 2pink ini'm just curious here.. as i am exiting currently and trying to find my new place (and belief system) in this world, i am wondering what the experience was like for other xjws.

i'd love to read your responses.

Totally agree with the sentiment of most people’s thought process here. It really depends on what you deem religion to be. If it is a belief system with a back drop of regimented attention to ritualised detail, be it lumps of marble figures or meetings that become more important in attending than the immediate happiness of those you profess to love, then no I didn’t find an alternative religion, and excuse the pun but thank god! If you deem religion to be about enlightenment to where we fit into this amazing universe and gain the ability to evolve as a person to the greater good and the world around me then yes I did.

So I did it - almost!
by wantstoleave intoday, i'm not quite sure how it started, but i voiced my concerns about the religion i've been brought up in since i was 3. my dad went straight on the offensive, though kept nice and polite.
i told them that someone can not be df for accepting a transfusion.
not sure why i started with that example, but nevertheless... dad said 'since when' and started pumping me for information, when, where, what...you get the picture and biggest one of all 'how do you know this'.

Little steps. Little steps.
I have just turned 42 and my mother became a witness when I was 6 months old so I was brought up in the organisation. I was baptised at 16 and married at 17. Neither thing should have acceptable at that age. I disassociated in my early 20's. It took me years to work out for myself by discovering the facts I was kept away from, that the organisation does not represent what a loving god is. It is an elitist publishing organisation that is an occult in the true sense of the word. It is made up of people that have been brainwashed into compliance through fear and ignorance.
Any parent who actively pursues a course of action that fosters a belief system that undermines the ability for a child to develop the tools to think as an individual infuriates me beyond belief. It creates damage in an adult life that takes years to muddle your way through without help, no matter what religion or doctrine you find yourself entrenched in. Remember your parents love you but they have been denied facts of the equation that makes the whole picture. They are as fearful themselves and unable to see reality as it really is.
There are so many issues surrounding the organisation that I now know that left me speechless when I discovered them.
Be strong and take the time to listen to what your heart tells you. It has a very quiet little voice so listen closely as it is easily bullied into silence until it becomes strong and certain. It is this that gives you the path you as a person needs to follow, not the wagging finger of the Watchtower.
None of us are very different really; we all feel the same and want the same things. It is one of the great things about being free to think for you that you will come to realise. Your life journey won’t become easier just because you manage to one day break free if this is what you want, just more empowering and enjoyable. Don’t be frightened about thinking for yourself and allowing your mind and heart to question. It is perfectly normal and what you were designed to do. The essence of who you are is hidden behind years of conditioning and inner head chatter born of what you have been told to think. Your thoughts aren’t you!
Just because you can’t see the sun behind the clouds doesn’t mean it is not in the sky and shining brightly. Life is joyful is if it is made up of what you have done today for the greater good of who you need to be tomorrow.
Big hugs
Paul

The claws are out!
by wantstoleave ini just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone on the board.
i haven't been here that long but from the time i've spent here, i feel very comfortable.
i've been on boards before (witness ones) where everyone is so opinionated, heartless and holier than thou....but this one is so different.

by LIftsong inis it the same for everyone who is an ex witness?
do we all go to bed every night of our lives detached for the human experience at a level the vast majority take for granted and enjoy everyday?
i sometimes think my inability to love was switched off at such a young age i am incapable of letting anyone else in.

by BloominMarvellous infeeling guilty already about being on here, the familiar words are recalled in my mind "don't go on any jehovah's witness websites except 'watchtower.org'!
so here i am, desperate for some help.
i'm 21 and have been studying for 2 years, i was made an unbaptised publisher in february and it was all going great until i had a problem with getting a little tipsy, the elders had to come scrape me off the floor of my witness friends house and take me home.
