The kind of religion spoken of at James 1:27.
I consider myself first of all a Christian (albeit
oppressed by WT weeds here and there).
i see that there are many people on here who've left the jw's and are still christians...but i wonder what type?
non denominational?
has anyone changed to something completely different like hindu or buddhism?

i visited a kh today with my wife and the brother who gave the public talk.
said that there is so much unnatural use of the sex organs by the world's.
youth, that the medical field is encouraging all parents with children 12 years.
It helps if you don't pay attention to the speaker while he's talking.
That's exactly right!
I found out by trial and error that if you don't pay attention your
retention rate of points covered in the outline of the talk is the same
exactly 1/2 hour after listening to the Public Talk at a Kingdom Hall.
Actually by taking a learned guess after hearing the title you can
paraphrase most of the content of the talk even without attending.
The talks are mostly the same information over and over by different
guys. The only thing that wakes people up is throwing out inflamatory
statements like oral sex will cause cancer, but the risk is that now
everyone in the hall is mentally picturing the act of oral sex while the
speaker moves on to the same old repeated points from the outline.
today i met the widow of ed dunlap, who was of the watchtower writing committee and a great thinker.
he found that the watchtower was not in harmony with the scriptures, so they disfellowshipped him.
when ray franz was disfellowshipped, it was ed who took him in and gave ray a job and a place to stay.
From Ray Franz's books this is what I remember about him. He wasn't one of the Governing Body members, but rathar,
Ed Dunlap was in charge of the Gilead School for many years. He also was into writing for the Society. Like the Choosing book
and the Commentary on James. He gave classes to Gileadites and IIRC the letter of Romans was his specialty. Nathan Knorr didn't
seem to like him much, Ed had a problem with a nerve in his face and forehead that contracted and twitched considered very painful
and debilitating when it would flare up and Knorr thought it was a fake illness and took him off from assignments and put in in
the boundary moving boxes around which only made the problem worse. He suffered a lot. Then he was able to get medical help
no thanks to the Society and an operation where they go deep and deaden the nerve, this worked and he was able to work back
to getting his teaching and writing assignment reinstated. Ed had been having doubts about the two class system and
about where the Great Crowd was according to Revelation. The Society did a witch-hunt and kicked him and his wife out
of Bethel and disfellowshipped him as an Apostate because Ed disagreed with current WT doctrine on these points.
The article on Wikipedia about Ray Franz used to have info on Ed's experience. Also there's a recording of him giving
his experience on tape and the link is provided at an archived thread:
one of the principal problems the wts has is, how do they motivate the rank & file witnesses to do more in the preaching work?.
over the past 3-4 years, one thing they have tried is a series of "special" field service campaigns.
two or three times a year, there is a concerted effort made to cover all the congregation's territory with district convention invitations, memorial invitations, "special" tracts, etc.. but, in effect, with these special campaigns comes along a subliminal message that the society expects, indeed demands, that it will be a colossal failure.. for example, consider the campaign to invite the public to the district convention.
I noticed at the two DCs I have been dragged to have had a lot of empty seats. If you were to squish everyone together a third or more of the rented facility would be empty.
Hi Yknot.
about a decade I go IIRC, we had these DO's come around Bro. Hurd an Bro. Bartell (sp?)
The idea they seem to have had was to close off sections of the Circuit Assembly Hall or District
Convention Arena, cordoned off actually. Everyone had to mush in and if you were a family of five
lets say and you came in right before things got started, you were hunting and searching for
a seat here and a seat there for yourself, your mate and kids.
Some parents refused to be seated elsewhere once they found out after the first day that
closed off sections would be opened if it seemed that more seats were needed so many
families just waited at the hallway doors until their chosen section was opened. It was a
fiasco.
The poor attendants had a rebellion in their hands, meanwhile the Administration/Chairman's
Office people fot the Convention are going around saying how nice it is to be maximizing the
space and blah blah.
Sorry I got off topic but this brought bad memories up as a kid.
does anyone know what they do with all the information they have on you, from the time you were still a jw?.
do they store it in a special file( the (e)x-files haha) and is there a way you can get a hand on it?.
DutchStef, hier is enige informatie die kan helpen.

not sure if anyone else has heard, but here in the portuguese district that covers southern ontario and montreal had their convention cut from 3 days to 2 days.
when it was announced they told the congregation that they would be getting the same program in 2 days......but weeks later they were told that they could not take part in the invitation campaign because the theme of the public talk was printed on the flyer and they were not having a public talk.
does anyone know the reason why they would do this to just this one group?
Hey JWip.
Thanks for the info on what
happened to the Portuguese
groups. A PM is a private message
Take a look at the upper right
corner of this website when
logged in you'll find if you
click the little envelope you'll
either get an error message
or it will give you your private
messages people sent you.
Half the time I need to click
on it several times before
it finally gives the messages
on screen... I think this is a
special feature of the website
to test and see if you really
really really want your
messages or not.
:)
there have been a number of developments over the past few months and they paint an interesting picture.. witnesses can keep dragging themselves to meetings ad infinitum however, the future of the watchtower itself is another story.
the evidence of continuing cash flow problems is now overwhelming.
if you talk to well placed witnesses, most won't deny it but simply blame it on the publishers financial problems.. they have cut off loans to congregations many of whom genuinely need new kingdom halls.
You are just so funny!
Sounds like you'll come
to a climax about it.

having all their congregations abolished back in the mid 90's only to be reinstated a few years later.
Please tell more about this.
Could you send a link or write about it?
I'm very interested in finding more about
what took place.
Thanks.

Hey metatron.
There's a post at

titled "The latest for new Service Year 2009-2010"
that talks about some of the things you said.
