Yes, white people developed about 20,000 years after people started going into colder climates. Being lighter skinned is only useful from a biological standpoint if you live where there is less sunshine to keep from dying from a lack of Vitamin D, which requires UV rays to convert in the human body.

I'd like to thank my lily white ancestors for making me 50% more prone to skin cancer than darker skin types. Apparently, my European ancestors had no idea that I'd be living a good part of my childhood on the equator, in the Philippines. I've had to have a boatload of precancerous lesions frozen off my skin now that I'm older.

Who apologize more to the opposite sex? Men or Women?

That has to be individual. I know women who are quite demanding of that, but I also know men who rarely apologize to their wives or girlfriends.

It has to do with how individually assertive and demanding you are (neither trait is negative if in balance, like any other), and that trait is no respecter of gender.

It's been established that guilt seems to be intrinsic to primate behavior. Chimps and other primates display it in certain circumstances, such as when caught stealing food from another chimp.

It's thought it's a useful deterrent against doing things that get you kicked out of a cooperative society, as we do better at surviving in groups than alone. All group species have social and behavioral inhibitions more or less built in so they can exist cooperative in groups.

Dogs seem to exhibit some guilty behavior, and it's because they're highly social too. We've actually bred them to be even more socially adept than the wolves they're related to, it's necessary to get along with humans, who are now more their "pack" than even other dogs.

Why The WTS chooses to shoot itself in the foot

frank and barbara kavelin's recent disfellowshipping for 'apostasy' two years after they stopped going to meetings made me ponder why exactly the wts frequently pursues people long after they have disappeared off the jw scene.

at first glance it seems a counterproductive strategy to make enemies out of people who would otherwise leave quietly.

i've had the pleasure of getting to know frank and barb over the last year or so and i know for a fact that frank's story would not be on jwn and freeminds if he hadn't been disfellowshipped.

On the other hand, I meet people occasionally who had been raised as Witnesses, but never did anything about it, and the Society seems more than glad to be rid of them. Mostly because they never got baptized, or if they did, never were active.

It's only if you were an example to others as a good little Borg, that they feel they need to make an example of you again, by DFing you.

If you're a weak sister like I always was, never regular, never pioneered, never regularly attended meetings...well, I remember one of our more gung ho elders saying about a person like that who moved away and was never heard of again, or never sent for their publisher card..."Good riddance, we don't need people like that in the organization."

And they don't...they want loyal drones who sacrifice everything and work hard. If they can't guilt you enough, you're not in the cult anyway, even if you are baptized. They just can't get what they want out of you.

LOL I've noticed over the years that no matter how often the Society warns sisters against watching "daytime dramas" because of their sexual content and other things, they simply can't seem to stop doing it.

These shows are made to appeal to feminine nature, I think, they exploit a lot of typical female fantasies in the Western world. I was hooked on one for years, "The Young and the Restless" but I lost track if it along the way and couldn't begin to tell you what's going on with it now.

What I, personally was watching for was some clues as to how people outside of the Borg acted, I think. I felt so outside of that world where people could actually do anything they wanted, or at least, in my perception they could, and I was so repressed and limited, it was like pressing my nose up against the candy store window for a peek of the goodies when I didn't have a dime to spend.

I also know that a lot of sisters are secrety hooked on romance novels. It's pretty normal...these books do for women what porn does for men, I think, it's all about fantasies we'll probably never get fulfilled in RL. Men (straight men, anyway) would love for every good looking woman to want to have sex with them with no consequences (every conventional porn movie I've ever seen for straight men is all about a good looking woman who takes one look at Mr. Ordinary Guy and immediately sheds her clothes and inhibition and has wild sex with him, then walks off with a smile on her face, no "will you call me tomorrow" stuff), and most women would love to be romanced by a man who doesn't just want them for sex (every Harlequin romance is all about the woman only giving into sex after the man has done a million things to prove he just doesn't want her for her body, after "true love" is proven and declared, and the sex is always about the guy making sure she's totally pleasured first).

There's a good reason our sexual nature tends to be somewhat oppositional...sexual biology has a different agenda for men than for women, is all.

As a teacher I once had in OBGYN said.."Get over it, biology is sexist. It doesn't care about equal rights, medical technology or political agenda, it's just trying to keep the human race alive the best way it knows how."

LOL...so true. It accounts for some of the conflicting "Venus and Mars" stuff between men and women, that battle of the sexes stuff.

for those of us lucky enough to have shed our rose-colored glasses, but still want to maintain relationwhipes with family and friends still entangled in the borg's web, a pragmatic approach, akin to, but less radical than "fading": just slip out to the periphery, treat the kh as one would a church, i. e. show up once in a while, make the occasional comment (ideally without compromising your real convictions and, better yet, worded as to provoke a bit of thought without raising eyebrows); being politely but non-commital, and, after a few "so longs," go home after the closing prayer.

Tea Drinker, it's interesting that when I was going to ACA meetings (adult children of alcoholics) they describe the sensations and feelings you are reporting as a reaction to mild to severe trauma.

I could never recommend anyone going to the KH if it was making them feel traumatized. It's like learning your father is a child molestor or a career criminal or your mother is a call girl to find out that the very parental organization that promised to care for you and love you and guide you into paradise is a lying cheating murdering piece of scum.

No...I couldn't keep going...I would sit there and think about how I was being lied to and literally get sick to my stomach, headachy, and start to get the "shakes" from plain old nervous reaction. It's your body's alarm system telling you to get the hell out of a dangerous place, it doesnt matter that the danger is emotional, it's not any different than feeling threatened physically.

My dad quit going to the KH years ago because every time he'd get ready to go, he'd have a severe anxiety attack, unable to breathe, stomach cramps, severe headaches and shaking.

He stays home and "listens" to the meetings on the telephone, his excuse being that he has to stay with my invalid mother.

But, my brother told me that when the meetings are on, he just sits and plays cards on the computer. He's not really there. I'm beginning to wonder if my dad isn't a "fader" too, just a much more sneaky one that I am...I know that he quit going to meetings almost entirely after he was asked to step down as an elder...he was treated very cruelly by the other elders and I don't think he's ever really gotten over it, although of course, as usual with them, he was made to feel guilty as the victim of their cruelty...it can never been the Society's fault or that the body or elders ever did anything wrong to YOU!

But, he never does what my mother does..."encourage" (JW code word for "make you feel horribly guilty") me to go to the meetings. I don't think he has the heart to "encourage" me about something that he also can't really do anymore.

when you look back over the 130 year history of wt, what is the most bizzare/ridiculous/hilarious/absurd teaching or quotes that you have found?.

one of the ones i find hilarious is during the beth-sarim affair, rutherford announced that the world was laughing and mocking them because they don't believe the resurrection is going to come to pass when they said it was.

rutherford went on to say in effect "we will show them when people start coming back from the graves"... lol.

Oh, god, where to start?

Recommending quack cures in the Awake, believing that wearing sneakers and jeans would mark you as a homosexual, that masturbation leads to homosexuality, that each of the creative "days" in Genesis were 6,000 years long, that Noah's Ark could really hold all the species of animals on earth, even the basic ones, that Christians in the first century(and thus, the "true" Christians) did this and that just like the WTS does....

It's like a chronic diarrhea of superstitious, nonsensical and unsupportable beliefs I've heard over the years...the shit never ends!

I know, the way they're just happier than a pig in mud about the prospect of 99% of the people on the planet being Godzilla-stomped by Jehovah so they can have their perfect little Orwellian world just turns my gut.
