Does the Watchtower place itself above Jesus?
by sacolton in"the world is full of bibles, which book contains the commandments of god.
why, then, do the people not know which way to go?
because they do not also have the teaching or law of the mother, which is light.

My last (and first) meeting. There was a vague question about the new system. A lady says: "Well, its like if you have a broken cellphone, you got to send it to the repairman and have it reset". Well f*ck you very much for comparing mass murder of pretty much everyone i know to a broken cell!

Impressions from my first KH meeting

i went to my first meeting last week and, well, i guess i want to write some thoughts about how a meeting is for an 'outsider' :-) .

Thanks for the replies!
DESIGNS, OTWO: What really bugs me now after some reflection is how easy it is to create such a controlling atmospheare, and how innocent it seems on the outside. Right now i feel the rules there are not what is controlling these people, the rules simply work to set up social conventions and skewed ideas of what constitute teaching, studying, rewards and enlightenment so that people learn to control themselves and their peers. I really feel there was something going on in that room at the last study that was neither ethical or healthy, perhaps that was mind control.
DACHEECH: I hope you will find a way so they only go after they have made a truly informed descision regarding the teachings...
LOUBELLE: I dont mean to imply anything regarding intelligence of the average witness - i am sure that man of the answers i didnt understand was because i was not smart enough ;-). But was it not painfull to have a prepared, thought out answer ready for a study question, and then have someone give a totally broken analogy?
WTWIZARD, OPEN MIND, BUBBLIE: Watching my girlfriends friends 'help' her by backstapping and shunning is a continious source of pain and does more to drive me away than anything they have written. I know about the encouragement on how to deal with strangers, but my problem is not really that someone reach out a tad more than he or she would on his own, my problem is how they are taught not to reach out in certain circumstances. oh, and in this kingdom hall they have solved the problem of screaming kids by boxing of a part of the hall with large glass panes, so no matter how hard they scream of joy they can keep on participating in jehovahs happymeals ;-) .
JONATHAN DOUGH: I have read your site and, well, i didnt mean to imply that i think the trinity is anti-biblical, rather that i dont understand the evience for and against.
EDMOND DANTES: Do you have any financial records from the jehovahs witness which show how much of their revenue come from magazine distribution? I have to admit its hard for me to imagine they actually sell a lot of that stuff. Perhaps they should branch out and begin to deliver mail. Ofcourse, the new system would be low on pet dogs.. ;-).
TENYEARSAFTER: I feel for your wife :-) . If you put together a couple of articles from the golden age you can conclude that the new system will be populated by white men without arseholes he live on sunbeams and only work in the garden and go to the meeting all day long. Unless you are one of the annointed where you dont get to garden. Now that i read it like this it actually make sence jehovahs would remove the assholes ;-).
BOOBY: No, that was my bad. English is (clearly) not my first language and the sentence was badly translated. I meant they was given full attention.
TWINKLY, etc.: Well, my girlfriends parents are jehovahs witnesses and she is babtized, so that is my angle. I have read CoC, CC, apocalypse delayed, Combatting cult mind control and a lot of stuff on the internet. I know the worst attitude is 'it cannot affect me', but from where i am now, seing someone i love getting hurt again and again, i think it is very difficult to pursuade me with arguments about how great everything is, and on the more 'fact' oriented side, before i will seriously consider a religion i need to harmonize it with natural science, and so far i have not even seen the WTS ATTEMPT to do that. How is it going with you and your husband?

Where does evolution leave God?
by behemot inthe wall street journal recently commissioned karen armstrong and richard dawkins to independently respond to the question "where does evolution leave god?".
their thoughts are here:.

hamilcarr: The way i see it, its totally subjective. If you have, for once, desided that the only reasonable model of God is one where he created earth as the center of the universe, then astronomy disproves God. Its a matter of creating an artificial choice.

Why do JWs fear Satan and demons so much?
by Deputy Dog infor a group that claims not to believe in hell, why do jws fear satan and demons so much?
a quick search on my 2003 wt cd reveals over 14,000 references just to satan's name..what is the worst thing satan could do to a jw?
-

AE: Really, why are you afraid of the Oujia board? I mean, why do you think it attracts daemons? is it because people think it attracts daemons that it actually do, or is there some mechanism involved in the process that satan likes?

here is a question: How did WTS deside which practices are hogwash, and which attract satan and his daemons? i mean, somewhere there must have been a study or something that made it likely oouju boards are a chanel of communication to Satan, and that talking to your dog is not. so what was it, heresay from teenagers that convinced them? talking smurfs?

CANTLEAVE: man, it never occured to me that the talks themselves was recycled. I actually thought they rewrote it each time like the WT articles. Yes, i will go again. Your right it might be a waste of time, but my girlfriend is in a bit of a spiritual struggle and I feel the more i understand and the more actions i put behind my words the better.
DESIGNS: Well, I often hear you should disregard information from the internet, so i think I will disregard that piece of information as well untill someone tells me it directly ;-) .
WANTSTOLEAVE: Yes, but i doubt i will go on my own and not regularely (unless my girlfriend has a change of heart). While i think there can be many good reasons for selecting one religion over another, and that might be an interesting subjective discussion, what i want to show my girlfriend is that the WTS has a habbit of saying things that are simply not true.
I mean, while it might be true there is or is not a trinity or God, the quote about evolution is 100% false, as can be verified by anyone with a computer in a minute. [ofcourse, the evolutionists theory might be wrong and i can respect that point of view, but that is not the point]. I think that is a very strong statement and that is why i am going: to verify (personally) that the accusation is correct and does not only refer to old practices, and to point out to her that things are somehow simplified to much so that wrong statements are made.
I might be wrong, but based on this meeting i am getting a very nasty feeling that things are said at these presentations that are even more 'out there' than what is written in the litterature...
