Play the Devil's Advocate
by nbernat inso my family wants to talk to me about my "doubts" and i know they'll try to defend everything they can in any way that they can so i just want to be prepared and see what they might say (what you would have said as a witness or what you've heard others say) so that i could rebut it on the spot.. if the fds is directed by the holy spirit why have they been wrong before?
"light gets brighter...." but that's not the case because there would be no reason to go back to old policies after changing them...the light certainly doesn't get brighter, then darker, then brighter, etc.if god is omniscient why did he create satan knowing he would rebel or adam and eve knowing they would sin?

I accept that racism is alive in America. What I don't understand is what I, as a non-racist individual, am supposed to do about it. On another site I regularly visit, people post secrets. One woman's secret was that she always feels inferior around white men. I get that impression from some of the black friends I've had.
For instance, one good friend constantly makes jokes in which he refers to himself as "nigger." None of our friends would ever use that term. It feels like he's making jokes and putting himself down to fit in with the white people. But none of the white people would think anything of the racial difference if he didn't keep bringing it up. It's like when fat people put themselves down to be liked.
It's a catch-22. Most of the white people I know--us little guys who neither make policy nor enforce it--just want everyone to get along and be colorblind. But the people of other races have had to live with so much crap that they're constantly on the defensive and won't let us let it go. And it's frustrating when you feel like you can't have an open, honest discussion because anything you say can and will be used against you to prove that all white people are just racist.

Did you ever make the wrong career choices?
by Quirky1 ini know i have had several opportunities to transfer with a prominent position intact and turned them down to family logistics and such.
now that i am older i regret the decisions i made.
i may not have been on easy street but it would have made things a whole lot better.

Yeah, when the company I worked for (past tense) asked us to tell them if we saw instances of exclusion I should have kept my trap shut. You'd think I worked for the GB.

Smoking tobacco- ex-JW's have a warped view, so what should we do?
by OnTheWayOut ini used to smoke cigarettes.
i quit as i was learning the lies of the watchtower organization.. i used to smoke between 1 and 3 packs a day depending on whether i went drinking or not.. .
i didn't really quit for the religion, but as i was learning it.. i swore to quit when cigarettes got to cost me more than a buck a pack.

Just wanted to post a funny saying: Having a non-smoking section in a restaurant is like having a non-peeing section in a swimming pool.
I am strongly libertarian, leaning toward anarchism (the self-government kind, not the chaos kind). As far as I'm concerned, government has no business interfering in people's freedom of choice. If a person or business doesn't want smoking on their property, they have every right to make and enforce that rule. If they want smoking to be allowed, they should have that right, too.
Fighting taxes on one area like cigarettes is like fighting the head of a hydra. You can chop it off but three more will take its place. As long as government interferes more and more in our lives and creates more and more useless programs and spends more and more money, they're going to take more taxes. We don't pay taxes. They take taxes.
I've never smoked but I'm damn glad I have the right to.

In the Paradise, God is supposed to selectively erase all negative memories. So if you don't make it there to be with them, they either won't remember you or won't care that you aren't there. Problem solved by a loving God who never tampers with free will.

I absolutely believe that all emotions can be useful if directed properly. Hatred of something like wife battery or cancer can lead you to take positive action against it.
That being said, it would be interesting to experience a hate-free life and compare. I do not believe such a thing is possible for an adult with all their faculties.
