Thanks LWT. I'll check these out when I get home (restricted internet access at work). I am trying to put aside all the WT teachings and start over with a blank mind so to speak.

Trinity, Trinity, Trinity...
by Mazzie Brossmann incan anyone tell me if there are names for the different variations in trinitarian belief?
or could any one point me to anything explaining what different chritians subscribe to in thier belief of the trinity?
i have googled my fingers off trying to find out, but all i come up with is the "oneness" doctrine of the penticostals.

What Ever Attracted You To The Witnesses In The First Place?
by minimus ini have an excuse, i was born in it.
the thought of living forever and never dying was certainly a draw but when i realized it wasn't true, there wasn't much of an attraction anymore.. what attracted you as a witness?.

My brother told me the other day that he thinks I was attracted to the JWs because I wanted somewhere to fit in. Funny, I never thought of it that way but I think he's right.

I'm really trying to understand the concept of the Trinity as it's supposed to be understood. As a side note, I have always believed that Jesus is God's son, but not God, even before being introduced to JWs. However, I cannot refute the Trinity believe either, so I am really just looking to better understand it.
Some questions I have:
1. In the beginning, when God created everything, was this God God, or Jesus God, or both? When God said "Let US make..." was he speaking to a separate person (Jesus or Holy Sprit, or both) or was he speaking to himself?
2. When Jesus was on earth, how was he different than when he was in Heaven? When he was baptied, what who's voice came out of Heaven saying "this is my son..."? What does "this is my son" mean from a Trinitarian perspective?

Women as second class citizens
by iMARX ini don't know about anyone else, but even when i was 14 or 15 i had an issue with the fact that women are weaker vessels than men and we are to be submissive to our "head" of the house etc.... people just assumed i was a moody teenager trying to be cool by disagreeing with those scriptures but i was a feminist in the making.. i even asked an elder's wife about it and i said to her: "you're a headstrong woman, how do you feel about this?
do you think you should succumb to paul's every word and do as he says all the time??".
she replied: "i hate that scripture too sarah.

The scripture (Gen 3:16) where God tells Eve that her husband would dominate her did not happen until after they had sinned. So it was more a punishment of sorts, that this is what would happen now that they were imperfect, rather than a command. He was acknowledging that the natural balance that he created was now going to be upset. Even looking at it from that aspect, you can tell it is not something that God wanted or promoted.
That is really interesting, and makes a lot of sense. If you look at the creation account you can even see that the Bible does agree with that.
Gen 1:27, 28 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." - God created "man"(both male and female). God said "man" (both male and female) would have dominion over every living thing upon the earth. God DID NOT SAY that the male would have dominion over the female and every living thing upon the earth.
Gen 2:24 "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh". - One flesh, implying they will be united, equal, of the same mind, etc. Not that one would be higher that the other.

Special edition Watchtower / Awakes for the spring
by dozy inheard a few rumblings from my jw contacts that there are special public edition watchtower & awakes to coincide with the memorial / easter time 2010. the theme is very much jesus oriented - picture of him on the front cover etc.
publishers will be encouraged to order extra copies for the field.
i don't think there is any memorial invitation distribution planned - this seems to replace that.

It's about money- everybody will order extra copies and pay for them-
If I order -20 copies, will they send me money instead?
Seriously, what a waste of paper. Does this count against them since Jehovah will bring to ruin those ruining the earth? If that's the case, then keep on cutting down those trees WTS!

Question about Heaven and the Resurrection
by dig692 inthis is a teaching that i have been starting to research lately, as i am not really sure i believe it anymore.
background: i wasn't raised a jw, so i grew up believing that all good people go to heaven, and all bad people go to hell.
when i became a jw, i started to believe in the 2 different hopes for makind since it seemed to make sense to me and sounded better than people going to hell.

Thank you, I appreciate your responses and references. I'm basically trying to forget everything the WTS told me and starting over fresh with a completely open mind and heart so that I can begin to truly understand the Bible. Again, appreciate the responses. Gives me a lot more to think about.

The JWs teach that only 144,000 have the hope of going to heaven, where they will rule with Jesus Christ over the earth that will be filled with righteous followers of God (earthly hope), thus fulfilling God's original purpose for mankind to fill the earth and subdue it.
For those of you that don't believe the WTS teaching but instead believe in a heavenly hope for ALL of mankind, I'm curious where the resurrection fits in to that. When would the resurrection take place? And when do people go to heaven? At death? After they are resurrected?
Looking forward to hearing your responses!

I always liked hearing "Angels We Have Heard On High" and "The First Noel". And I can't leave out "12 Days of Christmas". That was my favorite to sing when I was a kid.

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE? DID YOU EVER RECIEVE IT IN THE BORGORG? DO YOU HAVE IT IN YOUR LIFE NOW?
by freewilly01 ini always felt the lack of it in my life in the borgorg did you?.
what does unconditional love mean to you?.
how important is it to you?.
-
dig692
Nope, didn't receive unconditional love in the borg...its conditional as long as you are being a good little JW and listening to the society's direction. Once you step out of line then the love is gone.
As for whether or not I have it now, I'm not sure. I see valid reasons for Yes and No. On the one hand, many posters have commented that if a spouse cheats or does something awful, you would no longer love that person, but on the other hand there may always be just the tiniest bit of love left within you for that person. Certainly you would also feel anger, hurt, grief, betrayal, and all those other emotions that come with that kind of a situation, but perhaps there might still be some love deep down inside, and that could be considered unconditional.
Then again, for the example of a father raping his daughter repeatedly throughout her entire life, I wonder if any love would have developed at all for that child towards her father, and therefore one could no longer argue that there might be some tiny bit of love in her heart for that man.
This is an interesting question(s) that was posted. I enjoyed everyone's comments thus far. Leaves a lot to think about.
