I used to be a big fan. I would start off cheering for USA but as soon as they were out of the running (which usually happened pretty quickly) I would switch over to Brazil or Italy because they were the better teams

"Put Jehovah First...." what does this mean? Anyone?
by HappyGuy ini was baptized at the age of 15, my father was very opposed.
i loved god and wanted to be a spiritual person.
so, anything in the literature which told one how to be a spiritual person was of great interest to me.. i remember hearing and reading this phrase over and over and over again "put jehovah first".. don't get an education - "put jehovah first".. don't take that emt certification course that meets on tue and thursday for 6 weeks - "put jehovah first".. don't get a real career, be a janitor and "put jehovah first".. don't spend time with your "worldly" parents on the weekends, instead abandon them and fill your time up with field service and meetings and "put jehovah first".. .

Put Jehovah First means your life is no longer yours. It belongs to the WTB&TS for them to do with it as they please. Kind of reminds me of the other phrase I never understood..."make the truth your own". Translation...believe everything the WTB&TS tells you and do as they say.

Dealing with reality after leaving the witnesses
by lancelink inthis afternoon i was reading newsweek, and smithsonian magazine online, and there were two video's on the sites that really caused a massive conflict in me.. one video was about the 3rd and 4th generations of children living in viet nam who had grandparents, and great-grandparents who had to deal with agent orange back in the 1960's.
sorry i can't find the video now.
then i was reading the smithsonian magazine and there was a vidoe about illegal wildlife trade in the world:.

I'm technically "in" and this is the first time that I am going to do some charity work after becoming a JW. I would say start small, like SPAZ said, and work your way up to the level you want to be at. Try something that isn't affiliated with any particular church or religion or organization, such as donating food or clothing to a homeless shelter, or sponsoring a family in need by providing groceries whenever possible.
I really never understood why we weren't "allowed" to help others, and how telling something the good news was more important than giving him/her a blanket or a hamburger for crying out loud. Are they supposed to use the WT pages to keep warm in the winter?
But like you said, that voice in the back of your head saying leave it in jehovahs hands is hard to ignore when you have been taught that for so long.

did/do you you belive the examples in the yearbooks?
by highdose inthe ones where the witch doctor surcomes to his own spell that he put on the brothers, or when the 5 drs physicaly force the sister to have the blood transplant?
etc etc where the person was praying and ... ding dong!
there appear the jw's..... can we belive it??

I never even read the yearbooks
But when an example from the yearbook was brought out in a talk or a comment I believed the majority of them and thought wow that brother/sister has some faith!
Now when I hear them at meetings I try not to be so obvious when I roll my eyes. I'm sure 99% of them are only 1% truthful, and the rest is all BS

Things that irritate me:
1. People who are walking 2 feet in front of me, open the door to a building, and don't hold it open. How rude! And similarly, people for whom I hold the door open and they just walk through and don't even acknowledge it or say thank you! Not that I do it to get a thanks out of, but still.
2. When I'm the only person in a 20-stall bathroom and the very next person that comes in walks into the stall right next to mine! Argh!
3. JWs that ramble in their comments at the WT study and don't even answer the question that was asked!
4. JWs that comment about irrelevant and boring personal experiences and try to make it sound like the most eventful thing that ever happened.
5. When the weather is windy and dry and I get all static-y and my hair gets frizzy. Ick!
6. Two of the 6 elders in my local BOE. They think their sh*t don't stink and trust me, you can smell it from miles away!

I think if you believe in God, then there is power to prayer, whether it be because you feel better about the situation afterwards ("the peace of God") or because what you prayed for comes true (whether by the will of God, circumstances, or you yourself made it happen).
For me, even when I was a believing JW, I never prayed. I still don't.
