Not Their Fault?
by PSacramento ina friend of mine say this, " if they had found the answers elsewhere, they wouldn't have turned to the jw's".. i recall my mother mentioning the samething to me when she became a jw, that they had the answers and that no one else did.. answers to questions that other religions just didn't have a "convincing" enought reply to.. of course i asked, "how do you know?
have you asked and researched?".
the answer typically comes back "well, er..yes..not really..or from what i was given by the wt...".

Jehovah explained by WT
by PSacramento incan anyone confirm what i read on another website that the aid to bible undertsanding, 1971 pages 884-885, admit that the term jehovah is a combination of yhwh and the words adonia and elohim and that scholars generally favour "yahweh" as the correct pronunciation?.
is this correct?.

An uncaring Jesus?
by PSacramento ina friend of mine and i were discussing chritianity the other day and he mentioned that, at times, jesus seemd rather cruel and outside the proper tradions of the jewish people.. how so i asked?.
ex:matthew 8:21-22, where a man wants to follow jesus and askes to be allowed to bury his dead father and jesus replies for him to let the dead bury the dead.. there is also the case of matthew 15:21-28 with the cannanite woman who's daughter was possed and jesus said that he was their for the jews and that it would not be right to take the childrens bread and toss it to the dogs.. both passages are rather, well...cruel.. but.. in my view, and this is mine, they seemed to be "tests" that jesus was doing, in regards to the cannanite woman, her answer to the crule comparision was simply that even dog's eat the crumbs off their masters table and jesus' reply was that she had great faith and that her daughter was healed.. it seemed to me as a test of how much we are willing to give of ourselves ( in this case pride) for the betterment of our loved ones, she was more than willing to be humble and as such, her duaghter was saved.. in regards to the man who wanted to bury his father, something that was crucial in jewish law (honour they father) it seemed to me as being another test, i would think that if the man has said yes right away that jesus probably would have said, " go and bury your father, i will be here for you", the man's faith haveing been demonstrated to be true and willing.. .
thoughts?.

Romans 10:13
by PSacramento inwe all know that the passage from paul's letter to romans, romans 10:13 says:.
"all those who call on the name of the lord will be saved".. now, in the nwt they translate that as jehovah instead of the word "lord", because this is a quote from joel 2:32 and in the ot the tetragrammaton yhwh is used, which the nwt translates as "jehovah" (not only the nwt does that, the asv,yng and dby, do it also in regards to joel).. however, of the 16 translations i have seen, all translate that passage in romans as lords and all the commentaries i have read so far, point to view that paul was applying that passage to jesus, being his name that is salvation.. commentaries by james, fausset and brown, by matthew henry and by barnes, to name only 3.. comments?.

Books that touch us.
by PSacramento innot sure if there was a thread like this before, but.... there are times that certain books touch us in our spirtual lives, sometimes in an emotional way, other times in a theocratical way.. the shack by william young touched me deeply and renewed my faith in jesus and god.. in search of christain freedom and crisis of conscience by raymond franz, made me aware that the issues i laways had with organized religion were not just mine.. question of consceince by charles davis, showed me the the issues that mr.franz faced in the wt were faced by other in the rcc far earlier and made me understand that we must truly server christ and not any man-made organization.. the jesus i never knew by philip yancey, which i read after the shack motivate dme to read the nt with new eyes.. the nrsv of the nt with greek interlinear, one of the best study interlinears i have.. the oxford bible commentary, a must for any student of the bible.. .

Jesus's Divinity
by PSacramento injust to confrim, do jw's believe that jesus is divine?.
not that jesus is god, which they obviously don't believe, but that jesus is divine, with the divien qualities of his father?.
also, do jw's beleive or agree that, in the new covenant, jesus has the primary role that was god's in the old covenant?.

The Last (Lord's) Supper
by PSacramento ini wanted to ask this question beacuse at the last memorial supper it caught my attention more than it ever did:.
why do some (not just the jw's) believe that judas did not partkae of the lord's supper, the bread and the wine?.
in the synoptic gospels of matt, mark and luke, there is nomention of judas being sent away, indeed in luke jesus says "behold the hand of the betrayer at the table with me".. while in john judas is sent away, he is sent after the supper, though it is not clear if this was the lord's supper since there is no mention of the the partaking of the wine and bread in john.. help would be greatly appreciated.. .
