ExJWs & "Adult" Subjects On The Forum
by minimus ini think we have a tendency to get ourselves involved in subjects that might be "r" or worse rated because we couldn't as a jehovah's witness.. any talk or discussion of something considered "wrong" would get you into trouble.. many of us who were brought up in the religion never had any real "normal fun" growing up.
we couldn't associate with "worldly" people and even jws were considered "bad association" if they didn't fit the congregation's ideals.
we couldn't tell an off colored joke.

WT cautions against playing pac-man 1982 Awake
by EndofMysteries inwith bizarre names like pac-man, asteroids, space invaders, battlezone and donkey kong, video games have landed themselves not only in amusement arcades but also in corner drugstores, supermarkets, gas stations, fast-food parlors and nearly everywhere else that people congregate.
their beeps and booms and colorful lights have captured the fancy and imagination of a new generation of players to the point of obsession.. other than the obvious appeal to teenagers and its commercial success, the proliferation of arcade video games has triggered reactions ranging from strong parental protests to outright government bans.
in the philippines, president marcos officially banned the games and gave owners two weeks to destroy them.

Michael Jackson supposedly had an electronic game arcade in the kiddy circus ranch.
Maybe this was where he started to go wrong as a witness?

by Witness 007 into show you how dumb and shallow my congregation is a one of our "deeper" sisters claimed in field services that "jehovah answers all my prayers...like last week i wanted a new skirt and shoes for field service but only had $20 dollars....and would you believe i found them!!!

Right. In that case, my customer must be approved by Jeehober since they get about 60% off list price since they do over $100M of business with us.
Exactly - and, if you were around at the time, this printing transformation to offset methods cost the society millions, and they had to openly solicit contributions for it for the first time in many witnesses memory. I can still remember how outraged many ordinary witnesses were at the time over these continued cries for more and more money.
Some who were at Bethel when this went on have recounted the many expensive failures during this effort - including the attempt to convert some of the existing presses to offset which was generally considered to have been an expensive fiasco.

Miraculously in NEW YORK, there was an ice storm, and wouldn't you know this IMPOSSIBLY heavy piece was able to slide right on to the new building. Jehovah provided the storm!!
What a bunch of bunk.
What did they do? Leave the doors and windows open so the ice could get inside the building for it to slide on? That is really the limit of stupid.

Well, as materialistic as it is (in a small way) - she had an example straight from the Society.
I remember very well in the early 1970s when they wanted to go to computerized type setting and offset printing, the Society kept putting out garbage on how "Jehovah provided a way for them because IBM made a special deal on computer systems" and such. It was taken as a direct sign of divine intervention.
So the WTBTS has long done this very thing themselves.

Mothers' Day and JWs
by XJW4EVR inafter my mom died, my aunts and i were going through her personal belongings for my dad.
late that night, in one of the last boxes we went through, i found a mother's day card that i had made for her when i was in first grade.
even though mother's day was a forbidden holiday, she kept that card for all those years.. i wonder, in spite of their surface indifference, how many jw mothers wish that they could participate in mothers day, at best, or resent it, at worst?.

On this subject, what exactly was the JW reasoning against Mother's Day?
Pretty hard to say it is somehow pagan, right?
Obviously nothing about it in the bible, either.

New Scientist article re prayer & objectivity
by dozy inhttp://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20627574.200-brain-shuts-off-in-response-to-healers-prayer.html.
i thought this article was quite interesting.
certainly as far as most jws are concerned , even very intelligent ones just seem to have a blank spot as far as objectivity & common sense is concerned when jw matters are being discussed.

A very intelligent believer recently asked me to pray for a friend of his who was getting an estimate on having a car repaired.
If it was a Ferrari, then this might very well be in order.

Malawi Congress Party cards
by Marvin Shilmer inunder watchtower doctrine, during the 1960s and 1970s witnesses in the african nation of malawi suffered terrible crimes against them for refusing to purchase malawi congress party cards.
how many participants here have ever viewed a malawi congress party card both inside and outside?.
marvin shilmer.

I beg to differ - now that I have seen the text of the card, I for the first time feel 100% it was correct to refuse buying and using it. This is no mere identification card, it is a card emphasising the discipline and loyalty one was to show to the dictator Banda and his party.
Was it worth losing your life over?
