They are both controlled by the Masonic Illuminati - or so I have read here on JWN many times in the past.

BTW, wasn't Theodore Kaczynski a Luddite?
Yes, he was. The Unabomber Manifesto is all about how technology has ruined human life. He thought everybody should live like he did - as a hermit in the woods. It is remarkably well written, considering that the author was a raving psychopath.

Do more born ins leave the Org rather than those who converted?
by Little Imp inmy husband was brought up in the faith since around the age of three years old.. he stopped believing their crap when he was a teenager and indeed didn't attend for many years.
however, even though he moved over 100 miles away from his parents his mother visited him and got the local congregation to put pressure on him.
she also telephoned and wrote to him regularly to make sure he attended.. his parents in the past have been treated very badly by the jws (long story) but they are still in the thick of it despite being in their eighties.. my husband thinks that because his mother converted she could never admit that she is wrong and for this reason will not stop attending.. just wondered what others thought on the subject?.

Aren't there a lot more born-ins than converts (at least in the United States, probably in U.K. as well)?
So, statistically, it would be likely more born-ins would leave...

We've got a 14 year old burmese cat - sh*t i was hoping it would die soon, I really don't want it lasting another six years.
I just read in Scientific American that the longest-living known domestic cat made it to 36 years.

Pledge of Allegiance vs. Oath of Allegiance
by undercover inas has been exposed, leaders of the wt corporation signed "oaths of allegiance" in order to secure a us passport for international travel.. another thread has a link to photocopies of these passports: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/scandals/198658/1/lemon-pledge if you haven't seen them.
marvin shilmer also has a blog on this same subject.. the purpose of this thread is to explore the question: is signing the oath of allegiance the same as reciting the pledge of allegiance?.
on the surface it seems pretty damning.

But people - how could the Watchtower heavies get a PASSPORT so they can do WORLD TRAVEL without signing the Oath?
(even if it does contradict everything they ever said about the flag salute - all the way up to the supreme court)
Kind of like how they realized that vaccines or immunizations were not so bad after all when they became needed to go to certain foreign countries.

What's the saddest movie you've ever seen?
by JimmyPage ini'm asking because i just watched "the road".
it may not be the saddest but it's up there.
"my sister's keeper" was a real tearjerker too..

Even sadder was the remake. Oh God, was that bad. So bad, it was sad.
Sad in a different sense - but yes: Sad in the vomit-inducing sense. Sad in the brain-rotting metastasized TUMOR inducing sense.

Oklahoma City, early 1980. Last assembly, & last meeting ever. Walked in late, all by myself.
Saturday morning, the usual droning talk going, usual smell of hamburgers frying.
I just couldn't do it any more - never even sat down. Got back in my Corvette, burned out and drove home, and watched TV cartoons the rest of the morning. Flew some radio control airplanes that afternoon.
I was free.

Signing the Oath is "theocratic strategy" because it can be done in private and no one can see you doing it.
The Pledge. however, is idolatry because people can see you doing it. Nobody does this in private.
It all depends on whether somebody can see you or not - to the WTBTS.
