  Why is Pharma and Drugger translated as 'spiritism'?

  We had, back in the 1960s, a very weird case in Oklahoma City where an entire family was DFd for "pharma spiritism". They were seeing a Native American healer who gave them herbal tea as a cure, and made the mistake of telling people in the congregation how great it was.

  Two of the servants got a real hard-case going about this, and confronted them. They would not back down, so they ended up being DFd under the technical term of "spiritism". Note - true "Satanic demonism" was never in question: this was really a sort of disagreement on a homeopathic medical practice.

  It made no sense at all to many of the servants at the time (Marion Dunlap was one, he told me about this later) - but it still got done. The circuit servant was all for disfellowshipping them too, so that carried a lot of weight.

  Disfellowshipping an 80 year old man, with brain cancer, for swearing!

  this happened many years ago in my old congregation.. the man, who held the position of a ministerial servant for many years had not long lost his wife in death.. obviously, tensions and the general heartbreak of what happened to him lasted for sometime.

  i remember going to see him once and he was extremely depressed.. however, his son had recently moved back in with him and they had started arguing.

  his son grassed on him in to the elders that his father had sworn at him in a number of arguments and he was removed as a ms. the rest is history.

  I also got the feeling that there had to be more to this story than just swearing.

  Of course, technically, they could have DFd him just for that by extension of "conduct unbecoming" or such - if he admitted it himself, AND if they got the notion that he was unrepentant.

  It might be very difficult to pretend repentance if you were mentally incapacitated and dying of a brain tumor.

  I have to agree about the whaling, BluesBrother.

  It is impossible for me to see why on earth this is a necessary activity for ANYBODY in the year 2010.

  Note that the Japanese, some of the worst offenders, simply claim that it is their cultural "right" to do this. They certainly do not need to do it for food.

  Oprah invites crackpots on to spew mystical bullshit and her viewers connect Oprah's gravitas to it as legitimate "information."

  Oprah has given us Rachel Ray, Suze Orman, and Doctor Phil. Plus a number of books promoted that were not worth lighting your charcoal with.

  i am so inlove with this woman.... we have been dating for six months and she is finally starting to let me in.

  she is the portrait of sweet country feminitiy and i am a masculine little macho but smart and sweet meat head.. she called me the other night having a panic attack.

  well she texted b/c she couldn't talk.

  What was he actually disfellowshipped for, (if you know)? I didn't think just swearing (especially without two witnesses) was on the list.

  Of course, in my experience, the JC can just about do anything they want if they dislike someone sufficiently...

  You ARE absolutely sure that this is for real, right? By that I mean that this is not some kind of head games?

  The statement that you have known her for 6 months and she is just now "letting you in" is kind of troubling.

  Plus the fact that she can text while being mentally incapacitated...

  I have known certain women who make being in an emotional state at all times their main hobby.
