Thanks for the enlightenment. The sign of the end is relative. There are more people today, so logically there are more affected by earthquakes, food shortages, etc. So statistics will always show higher numbers today than in the past.

How Did You View The Elders?
by minimus ini know some who truly believed they were "gifts in men".
they needed their approval and wanted to be well spoken of by them.. i know some who can't stand elders and regard them as pests, always looking for some dirt on somebody.. i know some who liked maybe one or two but regarded the majority as unqualified.. how did you view the elders??

I thought they were perfect. I wanted their approval, especially to advance in the cong. Only after 25 years, did my eyes open to see that a few were good men. A few, especially the alpha elders, were totally back-biting, power-hungry individuals. And the majority of the elders did not want to displease the alpha elders, even if they knew the alpha elders were wrong.

1914+100 Years

in approximately 20 months it will be the year 2014. that year will be 1914+100 years.
i don't know how the wts is going to get around that if the "present system" is still in existence.

Welcome to this forum.
With the new "generation" explanation, the WTS will not be worried about 100 years from 1914. They now emphasize that Jehovah has a set date, he always has had a set date, and we can not change it or know it. But they do believe that we are deep into the time of the end based on Matt 24 etc. Hence to a jw, they are closer to the end of this system now than 10 years ago.

My bible studies with the jws started in the early 70s and they were aglow with the end coming in 1975. The end coming has always been the hope of the jws. I remember a dear elderly couple in the 70s. The wife became very sick and everyone told her to just hang on for a few more months, the end of this world is close. She died without the Armageddon coming. Her husband followed in death a few years later. Such cases as this were truly heart wrenching to see. They spent their whole lives in anticipation of the new world coming in their lifetime.

Amazing what the WTS can say and the rank and file will accept. The generation explanation is totally stupid, yet the jws buy into it. If the GB said that the sun revolves around the earth, would all the jws deny it? Probably not.

My son is having a birthday party today

i told my boy he shouldn't have said to the mother what kind of party it was.
he's just having a few friends over for food and video gaming, something his friend has done before at other "worldly" kids' house along with my son.. there will be no beheadings at this party..

When will they merge the BS, TMS, WTS, T into one meeting ?
by mP init seems to me with all the times being cut from talks, you could save further time and simply smash all the meetings into one on the weekend.
this would also save the need for those extra kingdom hall songs, and one trip to the kh.
with all these savings, jws could easily double their ministry..

Interesting about shortening the meeting with the least attendance. That sounds very logical. But I think the WTS no longer takes attendance counts of each of the specific meetings (BS, TMS, WT, etc). Hence I think they will continue to have the same meetings and length of meetings. They need the Watchtower study to keep reigns on the congs.
