What Would You Have Done?
by Dutchie inthere was a middle-aged woman in our kingdom hall who was a long time pioneer.
she was a very warm and loving woman and so when she announced her plans for a family vacation one year some of us got together and took up a little collection so that she would have some extra money to spend.
after all, she was working hard for jehovah and werent we supposed to show our appreciation?.

Yeppers, another increase. Since I work with mail, I need to reprogram our machines with new software. It seems to happen alot. Actually, where the postal service really hits customers is on "special services" type stuff, like certified mail, which now costs almost $5 for a one ounce letter, or certified mail restricted delivery, which costs neatly $8 per one ounce letter. With each rate increase, such services are increased in price by almost 50 cents.
Of course, with e-mail and faxes so popular, and with more and more people paying bills online, the overall mail volume has been decreasing for some time. It'll be interesting to see what the future holds for the US Postal Service.

Maxflash,
Please give my best to Cami! It's good to know you are there for her. We are here for her too. She and I shared some good stories about how she worked on the building of the same Assembly Hall in which I was baptized. She's a good friend!

My wife and I both entered into marriage as virgins, though there were some 'close calls' (however those might be defined). I was almost 22, she was 19.
And, I am happy to say, we had our priorities in order on that fateful night.....first thing we did was open all our cards and count the money.

Good post Grits,
Rather than actually present evidence that what is being said about the organization in the media is false or distorted, once again the tactic used is simply to dismiss everything outright as pack of lies. To those who are able to use thinking ability, it becomes obvious that the WTS is using such methods rather than addressing the real issues.
Had Enough - good points.
Also, Grits, interesting observation about their claim that Satan (that poor guy gets blamed for everything) is using the news media, but when something favorable appears in the media concerning jws, all of a sudden it's okay to accept it.

Top STUPID criticisms of the WTS
by JanH inthere are certainly enough valid criticisms of the wts and the jw religion, but a significant number of often-repeated criticisms of the religion are, imnsho, just ludicruous and serves to take attention away from the real issues.
significant problems with the wts includes, but are not limited to, the shunning policy, the blood issue and of course the corporate policy of hiding child molestors.. here is a list of criticisms of the wts that i find particularly annoying to see:.
russell was a freemason (or, even worse, the wts is part of some other large-scale conspiracy like the illuminati).

Good thread......tera and Star, I, like you, was thinking, hmmmmm, maybe I should go back....oh wait, I still attend meetings.
Actually, what this thread and this discussion shows me is that those or the likes of those who post on this DB are not just a bunch of raving lunatics who have no objectivity when it comes to the jw religion, as the WTS often implies. Rather, reasoned, thoughtful discussions like this reaffirm my feeling that this is a pretty darn good place to hang out and hear a different point of view.

Simple things in life.........(no boobies)

Nice post eyegirl!
Some of the simple pleasures for me include special moments with my daughter, laughing and kidding with her. I also enjoy my little nephew, he is so cute!
I always enjoy having lunch or dinner out with my wife. It's a time for good conversation between us.
I enjoy keeping in touch with my friends, including the ones I've met here. I have met some very special people here.
I enjoy a good workout playing tennis or basketball. Listening to music is enjoyable. A good movie too.
And of course, the things we tend to take for granted.....running water, good food, a decent place to live. And right now, after a week of heat and humidity.....air conditioning!!
Eyegirl, sorry things have been so up and down for you! ((((((((((Eyegirl))))))))))))

tera , good post! While the jw victory here can indeed benefit other groups, they really are only fighting for their own interests. And I sure do wish they would apply the same zeal to attaining justice for those who are really oppressed.
And yes, it's another example of the jw blowing of the trumpet whenever things go their way. "We did this, we did that. Look what we did for you"......that sort of stuff. I kind of remember a certain sermon (smile) in which Jesus said that we should not blow a trumpet ahead of ourselves. When it comes to individual acomplishments, jws are discouraged from making such known (and in some cases rightfully so, not many people want to hear people say "hey, look what I did"). But when it comes to what the organization accomplishes, the trumpet seems to get blown very loudly.
