I was counceled that my hair was too long and pretty (down to my waist and always styled). It drew attention away from Jehovah and onto me!!! Men wanted to talk to me when we were out in service and listen while looking at me. Heaven forbid!! I was told to keep it in a "bun" or cut it. I finally gave in and cut it and felt UGLY.

What Stupid Things Were You Counseled For?
by minimus ini've always been told that i have a very good personality, that i'm humorous, etc.. one elder called me over and said that i was "smiling too much".
the other elders talked to the elder who counseled me and he came back to say that i should be like i was .

I stopped watching "Lost" after the first season, because they kept going back and forth in time and I couldn't keep track. So I am lost with the whole show and the finale would have meant nothing to me.
So my question is..........would it be worth it to get all the 6 years of seasons and get into the Show? All the reruns are starting for everything and I need something to watch ;-)
The season Finale of "my favorite show" is coming up tonight. 2 hours of 24. I am going to miss that show.

What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?
by flipper ini'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.
and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.
so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

My parents found the "truth" when I was 4 years old in 1952. They went all out. My childhood was spent being dragged around constantly from house to house and town to town while they served Jehovah as Full time Pioneers. They were both fanatic about it. My father was a "congregation servant" and I had to be the example of a perfect obedient JW child. I wasn't allowed to play or associate with the other children because they weren't theocratic enough.
Forced to be baptized at 15 "or else" in 1963
Couldn't take it anymore so I purposely "sinned" and was disfellowshipped at 18 years old in 1966. My parents disowned me. They were special pioneers at this time.
My Father left the religion in 1973 because he was stumbled by the fact that those with money got better treatment, he never went back but died not sure if it was the truth or not. MY parents contacted me again in 1973. My Mother was still totally in. She started in at me after I had 2 children. Played on my maternal feelings that I and my babies would die at ARmageddon if we didn't serve Jah right now. I stupidly went back in and got reinstated in 1977. My husband was horrified and my life was AWFUL trying to live up to everything they wanted. I was not treated well and I saw the hypocrisy then.
I stayed in for 7 years struggling, struggling and finally gave up and stopped attending meetings in 1984. Never have been in a Kingdum Hall since. BUT I still wasn't sure if it was the Truth or not so I lived in fear until 2 years ago when I found this Forum. Finally I know its not the TRUTH but a Cult.

Anyway about Movies, I am rather sick with MS right now, can't get out at all or do anything so my husband John downloads movies for me to watch. We have run out of them right now so anxious to hear about anything new. I saw Hurt Locker and didn't really like it, was depressing to me. No idea why it won the award??
I saw Avatar, loved it just wish I could go to the Movies and see it in 3D.
I saw Precious, good movie.
I saw Lovely Bones, loved it.
I saw Old Dogs, very funny ;-)
I really liked The Blindside and saw that recently.
I liked The Edge of Darkness.
I saw The Wolfman, it was OK.
Crazyheart was entertaining but nothing I would want to go to the movies and pay for watching
Its Complicated was amusing, made me laugh
District 9 HORRIBLE.
I saw Shutter Island, I was totally confused with that one and found it dreary.

I'm going poo-less
by rebel8 inno, this is not my annual march colon cancer awareness thread!*.
a certain poo-less poster here has inspired me to stop using shampoo.. according to various hippie types, shampoo forces your scalp to produce extra oils and it takes a while to adjust.
sudsing detergents are bad for the environment too.. plus they have carcinogens and flying spaghetti monster knows i don't need any more of those.. so....have you gone poo-less?.

I can't imagine going poo-less, until I read this I had no idea it was a bad idea?? Really now you have me scared.
I wash my hair 3 times a week in Tresemme shampoo and then Neutregena conditioner. Then I use Mousse, then I use Hairspray.
Might that be why I have chronic autoimmune diseases??
As far as the other Poo. I am a colonic therapist, so if I can't do the other Poo I do a colonic heehee. Must keep your colon clean and free of toxins. Now I have to keep my long hair free of toxins but how to keep it clean with NO shampoo?

I feel for you soooooooooo MUCH. I too had somewhat the same type of experience many years ago because I was raised a JW. Coming up against nothing but unkind Elders and parents and people and ending up in relationships with abusive people. Thank you for trusting us and sharing your experience. You have come to the right place to vent and know that you re not alone with this. Nor are you a Bad person. I am not sure your age but you sound pretty young.
You are lucky in one way. There are so many resources out there now to help you recover from this background that was NOT your fault. Those resources were not available when I left.

Why are we repulsed at the though to consuming human milk?
by Elsewhere ini saw a story this morning about a guy who is making cheese using his wife's breast milk.. i checked a poll and 80% of people think this is gross.
i must admit there is a part of me that is repulsed too.
my scientific "geek" and curious side is intrigued and would want to try it... but then the repulsion kicks in again.

I heard that on a talk show this morning. I am a Huge advocate for feeding babies Breast milk. I belonged to the Le leche league. I breast fed 3 babies and one of them until he was 17 months old.
I was shocked at myself this morning when I was turned off when they were offering breast milk cheese as a snack. lol I have NO idea why I thought it was not appealing. Other than I guess I was thinking of it as needing to be tested for Aids or something. Don't know why it made me feel yucky and I would not eat cheese made from breast milk of a human. I am trying to figure it out but won't lose to much sleep over it heehee

I saw Precious and I really liked it. My Husband HATED IT lol
It was depressing but it showed how some people can rise above their environment with Bad Parents and better themselves. Its a fact of life and I like to remind myself of it sometimes. I thought the Acting was very Good.
I saw part of District 9, had to turn it off. Hated it.
I will be watching Crazy Heart tonight.
I didn't much like Hurt Locker, my husband liked it.

My Wife's SSD Got Cut Off
by Yizuman inthis morning, i came to discover in great shock that my wife's ssd has been stopped.. yesterday, i noticed her ssd wasn't automatically deposited as it usually does every 3rd of the month.. .
this morning i checked again and it still wasn't there.
so i got on vp and called to inquire what's going on with her ssd.
