I check up on CNN regularly to see where our attention is supposed to be directed. informationliberation.com is interesting for an alternate view.

What would man be without woman
by Star tiger ini know from my own experience that i would be a total f**k up, i would have taken the entire family into the borg, after my guilt after leaving this several years ago i am totally grateful to her for the rejection of my previous beliefs, i would have subjected the children to all the self esteem eroding ideas of a few old men in the governing body!.
i think i'm probably now a humanist, with respect for the here and now and trying to cope with the idea that people don't live forever as i see it in my weekend job of working in a nursing home, and feeling utter disgust at the governing bodies ideas at immortality which were totally wrong!.
i think it was robin williams that said if women were in control there would be no wars but intense negotiations every thirty days, lol.

Perspective
by Cthulhu inwhen a legalistic organization takes the tale of jacob and rachel to illustrate the need to work hard to fulfill a contract, they detract from the point, which is that if you love something, carrying out work for it won't feel like work.
(genesis 29:20).

Out of State Employment
by Cthulhu ini live in michigan and am currently looking to leave the area, as it is no longer the land of plenty that it once was.
i intend to move out of state, but i have this problem.
i don't have the funds to simply move and then find work when it comes to me, so it is important that i find work before i actually relocate.

I have never sought employment out of state and have no clue as to how one should go about doing so. I am looking for suggestions and will greatly appreciate these.
Thanks in advance!

Dan,
I am not a frequent poster but I have followed your story - the good, the bad, and yes, the ugly. As another Daniel we know so well wrote, I will leave it to "the reader to use discernment" as to which elements of your story fit where. Anyhow, if you've read any of my posts you know that I have long been aboard the atheist, "how could god cause/allow such suffering," etc, etc, ad nauseum. Where I stand right now...I will say that the pendelum my be swinging, which is why I'm going to share something that has helped me in times past. Actually, there are a couple of things. When my confidence in the god of the Bible was stronger I often leaned heavily on the scripture in Corinthians that says that god won't allow you to be tempted beyond the things that you can bear. This was always helpful because I figured if god was in control he would allow only that which I could handle to come my way. Reasoning dictated then that whatever I was facing at the present must have been deemed handleable.
I also have been in situations that have tried my faith and, to a large degree it has been lost, so I will share with you something else that has given me help in times where faith was simply not with me. It was passed along to me by a math professor and it is about the only thing I can recall clearly from my time in that particular class. He was a Buddhist and he told of a time he went to Tibet where a monk told asked him two questions: If your problems have a solution why worry? If you problems have no solution why worry? Life, god, the universe, etc not only may but WILL throw things in all of our paths that may seem unscalable. Sometimes without the help of others, they most certainly would be. But I will finish with a final thought. Randy Pausch, a Professor with a beloved wife and family became famous for having been diagnosed with a particularly nasty form of cancer. He had the pleasure of knowing that he was going to die and was able to make arrangements ahead of time. He wrote a book entitled The Last Lecture and in it he said something along the lines of what I am about to say. Randy, may my paraphrasing do you justice. He said that the brick walls we encounter on our road of life are there for a reason and that reason is that we may demonstrate how much we want something or how much something means to us. He also stressed balance, like all of the great thinkers, philosophers, and teachers.
Dan, I hope that things begin to look up. Sometimes conclusions, as unpleasant and terrible as they may be at the time, are the beginnings of new chapters in the story that is life.

What Doctrines or JW Views Did You Not Find Too Believable?
by minimus inthe thought that a loving creator would violently destroy anyone not belonging to the jehovah's witness religion including billions of babies seemed just not right.. the fact that you could recieve some "acceptable" blood components but could not donate those same lifesaving yourself seemed strange.
you could recieve a blood fraction but you couldn't give it.. any others you can think of?

Spirit directed organization, spirit directed governing body, spirit directed bodies of elders. What about when there was a doctrinal flip flop? What about when a JC decision was appealed and the new JC actually ruled contrary to the former one?
Not a doctrine, but a saying I always laughed at while everyone thought I was laughing with them: "Reading Awake! for a decade is the equivalent of a college degree."

Very good to have you here on the board. Your experience of not knowing what to think sounds all too familiar. I suggest studying the primary sources (or as close to them as you can come by) and decide then what sounds good. It's all a part of your journey.
