If I went to Bethel and claimed that the Governing Body is a bunch of assholes, would I leave in one piece
Yes, because you could take all of those old geezers, no problem......
i am reading "millions now living will never die" by alan rogerson, and he makes a great point in his book.. this is something i always firmly believed happened after having serious doubts about jfr, but the wtbs always whitewashes the events and make it sound like the witnesses of the time were just innocent martyrs.other books and articles have confirmed this, but i love how the book puts it very simply.. rutherford was one of the biggest scum-balls of all time - and the desire for "persecution" goes on!

what am i missing?
why are the illegal immigrants demanding their rights?
they're illegal, they don't have the rights of an american citizen because they are not citizens.
Give Me Your Tired
Your Poor
Your Hungry
Who knew that those words would eventually be referring to US Citizens!
The other thing that drives me nuts is that people who try to do everything right, and go through legal means to immigrate have to wait years and years and years, while the people that abuse the system seem to get all the breaks.
how long did you date?
i was reading another post by exms and he mentioned three years.
in the area where i am at, three years would have never been accepted.
1 year.....just because my wife and I got tired of commuting to see each other (200 miles apart)
It makes me so annoyed to see young ones rush into marriage with little idea of what they are getting into or who they are marrying
I couldnt agree more Nugget. It usually Kids marrying Kids who cant wait to jump in the sack. Once the thrill of that is gone and reality sets in, many of the marriages are either miserably unhappy or end with one of the mates cheating. Im sure cantleave spent many a long night (as most of us did as elders) counseling married young people who were totally unhappy.

Rutherford was one of the biggest scum-balls of all time - and the desire for "persecution" goes on!
The cycle of events from 1930 onwards was ominous. Throughout
the United States, for instance, arrests, trials and persecutions
continued on a scale greater than that of 1918. Undoubtedly the
Witnesses themselves contributed to these attacks by persistent
provocation. One of their characteristic actions when a township
threw out some of their 'publishers" was to gather hundreds of
Witnesses from the neighbouring territories and stage a mass
'witness' in the town in question. They regarded the persecution
as further proof that they were the true servants of God in a
hostile world.
my sister moved to a affluent suburb in a capital city less than five years ago; and rented a small detatched unit and got a full-time job.
i visited her a couple of years ago, and was surprised to find the tuesday night meeting was held there every week.
at the time i thought it was an 'honour' bestowed upon her for all her years as a regular pioneer: but later i started wondering why, in a suburb with so many big prestige houses and families, would she be chosen to host the book study?
a) someone who would volunteer their home
That is a HUGE problem......most people cant be bothered or dont want the hassle!
In my previous 3 congregations, they did not have enough homes to accomodate all of the congregation members, so they had 2-3 groups meet at the hall, or in one congregation had groups as large as 30 people!
this was after my 'honeymoon' period of being a new jw.
yet, it was still a couple of years before i actually left.. i remember sitting in the kh listening to the meeting & my mind wandered.
i started looking around the congregation.
Great topic Jambon!
One thing that hit me like a hammer......
I was looking around, and I couldnt believe the number of born-in JW kids who completely depressed, emotionally suppresed, and totally confused.
Most of my peer group grew up to be adults with no coping skills. Their families were dysfunctional to say the least - this is supposed to be the happiest organization on the earth?
Its scary how many JW's either take anti-depressants or NEED to be on them. Some of the ones who need the most help either "wait on Jehovah" or they feel guilty since Jesus said "Do not be anxious over anything!"
Once I started digging deeper, you realize they are miserable since they are serving one of the harshest taskmasters on the planet....the WTBS.
I can relate since I felt like that for a long time - once that veil was lifted, things have been so different. You feel like an elephant has been lifted off your back!
i know many just want to shout yes to that second question, but hold on a second.. i go back and forth wondering if there is evil intent to manipulate and lie to the "flock" through the pages of watchtower and from the platform at conventions or if they really believe most of their own nonsense.. i won't load my post with endless examples (but feel free to use them) of this.
i will post just two to make my thoughts.
sometimes, i read comments about their long-term planning to get more money or lose less money and gain more members or retain more of the captives.
I really think its like any large, bureaucratic organization at this point.
One thing that scares me about religious organizations is that they usually attract people who would be considered quite intelligent for leadership. However, like many other bureaucracies, they make stupid decisions based on having book-smart people in roles that require lots of common sense. Throw in LeavingWT's important point about being captive to the concept of the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" and you have real mess on your hands!
since 1879 how many different ones associated with the wts do you think have stated they were of the 144000 ?
for example in 1948 alone there was 25000.with perhaps hundreds of thousands 1st century christians reaching out for the heavenly reward-we can see their premise is ludricious.the wts doctrinal house is built on the shaky foundation of ct russell.
.
They will just release a new version of the New World Translation and keep adding zeros.
New "Light" and New "Scrolls" = 1,440,000
Newer Light and Newer Scrolls - 14,400,000
And the beat goes on.....
you can't do anything in the religion!
you can't hold hands with your spouse during prayers.. you can't wear a logo themed tee shirt when doing menial outdoor work at a "quick build" kingdom hall.. you have to wear a suit and tie or a dress when visiting a watchtower factory.. you can't enjoy an older recording of a favorite talk and pass it around because "the faithful slave" disapproves of that.. you can't further your education with college.. you shouldn't want to get married or have children as the end is soooo close.. they suck the life and enjoyment of people.....and i've only mentioned a fraction of things jws frown on.. .
I still think we should take the lyrics of Billy Joel's "We Didnt Start the Fire" and make a list out of all of the things you cant do!
Education, Masterbation, Non-Scriptural Meditation,
Rock Music, Soap Operas, Contact Sports.
dear brothers,.
please include the reminders below in the nro (new resurrected ones).
2-year review meeting.
LOL to the HELL comments- I was thinking the same!
What you mean you dont eat no ment?
NO, you cannot have a hamburger, filet mignon, or baby back ribs. Look,
everyone is going through adjustments to be here, it's not just you. After a
while, you will get used to vegetables--really.
