That chapter hit me like a hammer too......
The WTBS still LOVES to bring up those Malawi Martyrs.
What genuine Christians!
Hard to believe Jesus would have $hit-canned the one man who truly had a conscience if this was HIS organization!
all i can say is - wow.
what a bunch of absolutely hypocritical, double tongued shithouses the governing body really are.. reading the letters to & from the different branches/governing body on 'alternative service' made me so angry.. an organisation that is utterly rotten from the top down.
these men have blood on their hands.. filth!.

throughout the 19th century, people excitedly believed in the imminent physical return to earth of jesus christ.
each advent group proposed its date for that promised event, and each was intensely disappointed when its selected date passed by without the anticipated event taking place.. i have collected pages from books written at the time of the 19th century date-setting predictor, william miller.
this collection is available at:.
Doug,
This is awesome....
I have been looking for some Miller resources, and this is fantastic!!
i knew about elders being "deleted" and have commented what a strange and pejorative term that is, but it wasn't until "wtwizard" and "designs" commented on another thread about it that it actually hit home for me.. one cannot step down as an elder with any dignity!
elder's can't quit, with the word "quit" being as in "he quit his job.
" elder's can't resign as in "he resigned as chairman of the board for xyz corp.".
If they invited the "deleted" elder to give the closing prayer at the end of the meeting, that was a signal to the congregation that "yeah, he's not an elder any more, but he's still a decent chap"
This is SO true....and is a huge indicator.
When I was "deleted" after I resigned, I was asked to do the prayer, which I did. (it was emotional for me, I was LEAPING for joy inside)
but i know of others who were deleted against their wishes and they werent used for anything for a while, so they could eat a nice slice of "Humble Pie"
sorry if there is an existing thread that provides details on this, but i couldnt find one.. has anyone read alan rogerson's "millions now living" book from 1969?.
any thoughts on it?.
i am looking for some books that might be considered "non-biased" or straight forward history....... i dont mind the wt bashing books but i want to have some outside references to back up my research which will be shared appropriately when the time is right!

Usually I get "well, have you read the proclaimers book?"
My response is "that is as biased and whitewashed as Mein Kampf was!"
within the past decade, two elders stepped down in my old congregation.
actually one was taken off for commiting adultery and therefore reproved, but the other one simply stepped down for no apparent reason.
also, in another congregation i used to attend for a short time, i was shocked to hear of another elder stepping down, again for no apparent reason.. i am wondering if there has been an increase in the number of elders stepping down for no obvious reason and to see if this is a worrying trend causing alarm for the society.. i am thinking the past 10 years, particularly with the internet being available to so many people around the world today; but have you experienced many elders stepping down in your congregation or past congregation?
I would say that the ones that have had enough site "burnout" or "family reasons"
Thats what I used - the real reason was I couldnt take it anymore, like many others have commented.
I think it comes down to whether you resign on YOUR terms or THEIR terms.....
I resigned on MY terms!!
if she wrote a letter to a local elder ,who still chats to her if he sees her without mentioning "truth" or court case stuff and asked to be made a "do not call " as she would not want her abusers wife (who stood by her husband !
) knocking on her door talking of "the truth" or the perps brothers and sisters who also stood by him (despite knowing he had abused girls before ,weirdos !
) do you think callers would be stopped ?
A letter would be one option, but then they usually go by the policy to call once a year on the "do not call" folks to see if they still feel that way!
(I never did it since I respected the people enough that if they were clear enough to be a "do not call" they also knew where to contact the JW's if they all of a sudden wanted a visit)
Anyway, a letter might not do it.....
One more effective way here in the USA is a clear NO TRESSPASSING sign. If you have that posted, a JW can be prosecuted for calling on you. I am not sure if where you live if the laws are the same, but that works very well. If a letter is written, I would indicate that you (your daughter) have a no tresspassing sign posted at your residence and that visits are NOT welcome.
hope this helps!
i left town after the court case for a fresh start , it was 18 months before dubs knocked on my door , so i told them why i was not interested in their message , aswell as the watchtower payouts in may 2007 ,with gag orders attached , they seemed quite shocked by that but warned me to be carefull what information i read on the web !
i told them that in america they do not make up the news !
they seemed quite shocked about what happened to my child but said it would have ben an isolated case !
Isolated - yeah right......Sorry for your pain.
Every congregation i have been in has examples.......some with several victims.
This is just another example of how white-washed everything is in that organization.
If people knew the truth about it (for example, where your money goes when you donate to the Worldwide Pedophilia Fund Work) they would freak.
please share me letters from wt and publication, this elder so notorious he is untouchable, he depend his lots of privileges from publications
Mad is right Arnold, this is VERY common.
Even if you come with a stack of articles, scriptures, etc....to prove that he does not qualify - getting someone removed can be a nightmare, it comes down to politics, popularity, fear, and not wanted to "offend someone".
dozy brought up a good point a few months back about how the wt uses third party terminology to obscure their real motives.
i thought it was a good idea to revisit this wt writing technique.. (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/184897).
look at the nov 15th 2009 wt, "treasure your place in the congregation" and compare what happens when we replace the third party terminology (words in bold type) with first party words.
I have pointed to that article many times over the last few weeks to show their tactics......
Many people have been honest with me and said that the article was a little troubling to them.
That is a scary article - Treasure Your Place Under Our Control Or Else!!
Like you mentioned, it was watered down by their 3rd party terminology - great point!!
I would like to use the following example from Sudden Impact to express my feelings as to the use of the word "We"
CROOK: Say what, sucka?
HARRY: Well, we're not just gonna let you walk out of here.
CROOK: Who'se we sucka?
HARRY: [slowly drawing his .44 Magnum] Smith and Wesson... and me.
zoiks inspired this thread when he mentioned this book elsewhere.. i have read other threads on this forum about it, but i always enjoy the fresh insight on here.. commentary on the letter of james was always my favorite book from wtbs, partly because i love the book of james, but also because it was one of the books that dealt with more practical christian living than constant wt doctrine.. i mentioned to a number of people that i loved that book, and got a few comments of "well, you know that book was written by an apostate.".
it didnt take me long to do a little math - that book came out i believe in 1979/1980, right around the time of the great purge.
how could someone write such an excellent book and then be branded an apostate just a few months later???.

That book was another one of the big puzzle pieces that led me to this site along with others on the internet.
For that, I say thank you again Mr. Franz and of course Mr. Dunlap
