what's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?.
my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.
it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.
Waking Life.
This movie got more philosophy crammed in it than a college textbook. If you feel that your mind needs new avenues to wander on, watch this movie.

Also A Clockwork Orange was brilliant, even though usually I like the book better than the movie. Stanley Kubrick is truly a genius.
looking back, one of the reasons i used to love getting away was because it allowed me to have a gulit free holiday from the meetings.
i loved arriving somewhere, where no one knew me, my own cong didn't know where i was, if i was attending the meetings or not.
i could just go out on a meeting night, do what i wanted have a meal out with a bottle of wine and no one would ever know!.
That's what holiday means, getting away, breaking the routine.
I was a couple of times on a holiday with other JW families, where we did some private meetings. Those were not so bad. But to actually go to the KH or even FS? No way, that's just crazy...

i'm impressed witht the map that you posted 5 years ago with the location of each member.. can you provide an updated sheet?.
with the locations, i will them pm each person for their email, and compile them in an excel spread sheet.. what i want to do is get the email of each person, then when i'm in that a certain part of the country, i will send an email to those in that area, as i love "our" conversations.
display a map of roughly where people are (based on the location in their profile, not actual location)
Sadly for those of us joined not long ago (like me, almost a year ago), there was no way to change our location in the profile.
I also would like some locations list, for other reason: most of the people on this forum live in US or UK, and I wouldn't mind finding someone living closer than a thousand mile from me.

they use an organization that preaches about a god that has justice for those who are weak at heart.
Have you read Ray's books? He thinks the GB is actually for real, they actually believe that they are somehow moved by the Holy Spirit, and overall in the long run all their decisions are good, because it's either directed by God, or God permits the decision to pass, and because He's a good person, he wouldn't allow something truly bad, and in fact in time He fixes the things that are bad using new light.

I wonder how much part of that restoration works was made by volunteering? As in, you know, free workforce.

No, I actually want it. New light matters little for JWs, because what the WT says it's God's word anyway. But for me it's more laughing material, and one more proof that God's Holy Spirit has nothing to do with this organization. If it were, the changes wouldn't come after circumstances push the old light to be unacceptable.
OTWO: you mean it will go down? I don't think so, I vote for 11.673. If I recall correctly I put my vote for the 2009 memorial for 10.800 and I got pretty close.

I don't think even the GB or the HQ knows that yet. Numbers have to be crunched, sent to branch, added, sent to HQ, etc. It takes time. Even then it's kept secret from just about everyone until next year.
my doorbell rang about 30mins ago, standing out side was a 30 somthing man and a very very young boy.
the young boy mumbled and stuttered and limply waved about a awake magazine at me.
i told him i wasn't interested because his religon had a bigger child abuse problem than the cathloic church, the difference is jw's cover it up better.

What kind of comeback is this? "Read our magazines to find out that we are good people"? Do good deeds so everyone sees you're good people, don't point to a magazine boasting with some small scale goodness, or some fictious "good deeds" that the majority won't care about (like literature peddling). It's like I'm on trial, there are several eyewitness that I murdered, but I present the jury with my autobiography: read this, then you'll see I'm a good person.
