  a few times in the ministry i would find someone clued in who would ask the jw on their doorstep " so what your saying is, unless i join your religon god will kill me?

  and everyone else who isn't part of your religon?

  " now theres only one answer to that question as far as jw's are concerned but i never saw a single one answer that with a straight answer, mostly i suspect because they were so uncomfortable about being made to face the truth about their beliefs..

  I don't remember being asked that particular question. 99% of my FS was "I'm not interrested" (in my town we have about 1/50 witnesses, so people are too often visited). However my honest answer would have been that we can't judge that, and I would have meant it. It was my dilemma too, that if that's the case, then why am I there Good thing I didn't got that question.

  Don't you want to be part of those that will for sure be safe?

  That's the catch, being a JW ruined my certainty of any kind afterlife. Before that I tried living a christian life, and hoping that by Jesus' grace I will be saved. As a JW I was constantly being reminded, that one can never buy his place, and I can never do enough, can never be good enough to be admitted.

  mary christmas - article in the awake i think it was 1969 or1968 there is a picture of two passenger jets flying into the world trade center buildings, now, what do you think of that.

  now, that was some thirty years in advance, and a little more than coincidence.

  WTWiz: it's not entirely true. Although fake time does exist, the calculations are not affected by it. If say in average a person reports 10 hours/month, then he, the average JW will need 171 years in FS. Now, if he spends only 2 actual hours, that's his problem, but the calculations still stand. Both numbers take the reported hours, so they cancel each other, the actual hours spent don't matter in this context.

  In math:

  1,488,658,249Rep.h. / (289,678Bap / 4) = 20,556Rep.h./Bap. (the number 4 is from my assumption that 25% are new recruits)

  20,556Rep.h./Bap. / 120Rep.h/year = 171.3year/Bap. (here both numbers are in Reported hours, and they fall out, leaving the result in year/Bap.)

  Why even open up this cosmological can of worms Watchtower?

  Moreso because a God can't possibly be conceived as being bound by time. Scientists pretty much aggree that time is a property of our known Universe - outside it has no meaning to talk about time, just like you can't talk about space. A God that is bound by time is a weak god bound by forces he can't control.

  the dec. 2009 awake asks the question, what kind of star led the "wise men" to jesus?

  it concludes that the "star was from an evil source, most likely satan the devil" ( pg 11).

  i see the logic , yes....... since herod wanted to kill jesus, a great personage of pure evil must be behind the 'star'.

  How about dinosaurs, with sharp horns, fangs, canine teeth? How about the T. Rex? What a marvel of creative power!

  The eternal unanswered JW dilemma. Dinosaurs should have been present in JW Paradise before man was created. And they were extremely violent. My wife's answer to this: "How do you know they ate meat? The scientists are so often wrong..." "Because of the humongous carnivorous teeth! You can see them at the museum." "They could have eaten grass too..." "Right, eating grass with those teeth, that's probably the explanation why they got extinct..."

  I only scanned the article, but I just shake my head in disbelief. Either he is a blind JW, who eats up what he's told, or he never deeply researched the cult to see what's behind the nice PR front they put up.

  Just a couple of blatant untruths that caught my eyes that are immediately dismissable by any JW/exJW who can use his head:

  5. All medical and dental care, including psychological services from non-Witness practitioners and doctors are in no way restricted.

  18. Rational behavior and thinking is encouraged.

  20. Reading, education, knowledge, outside of Witness literature is not frowned upon or discouraged.

  23. Witness disaster relief programs include non-Witness members and neighbors.

  32. Jehovah's Witnesses do not shame or guilt persons into compliance, and there is no need to "confess" sins as one studies the Bible, to anyone but to God.

  33. There are no isolation tactics that are employed by Jehovah's Witnesses and details of the lives of Jehovah's Witnesses do not come under scrutiny.

  That calculation does not take into account that a big number of baptized ones are children. In my personal experience I estimate about 25% of the baptized as new ones. That brings the total number of new converts from 289,678 to 72,419, and the time needed to reach one person to 20,556 hours, or with a 10 hour/month FS average to 171 years.

  so i have my daughter (a 33 year old choreographer turned psych student) reading rah.

  so far she's read double star and tunnel in the sky, she stayed up all night friday night finishing tunnel.

  she's working on the moon is a harsh mistress now.

  One more vote for Iain Banks. I first read The Player of Games, and it's astonishing what that man can do with a story. Then in Use of Weapons he didn't fail to surprise either, I didn't have such a surprise ending maybe since Star Wars 6. Bank's first novel, The Wasp Factory is not a sci-fi, but is a very good novel too. A bit controversial book, but it opens a door into the mind.

  I also like Philip K. Dick's novels, but those might not be for anyone, he often uses heavy allegory, and to understand some of his works (notably Valis, Radio Free Albemuth) you need to know more background of the writer, and his work. He was a bit loony, like all good artists are.

  has the coming population reduction at "the hand of god" ever been trumped up as a necessary thing for the health of the planet or as a positive environmental cleansing?

  (rather than just as a judgement of wicked?).

  i just wonder if wt uses those platforms to justify what could possibly be some kind of deliberate anihilation of a great many people.. will jws align with the agenda 21 program?

  No, the preaching work made a literal contribution to increasing the general problem of pollution. The JW show no particular restraint when it comes to enviromental friendliness, and as WTW pointed out, they grossly add to the problem by exactly maintaining that preaching work.
