Indeed, how many "special" can you cram in, before the special becomes banal? Never could understand the "special assembly day" either... it was something regular, so why call it special?

Special edition Watchtower / Awakes for the spring
by dozy inheard a few rumblings from my jw contacts that there are special public edition watchtower & awakes to coincide with the memorial / easter time 2010. the theme is very much jesus oriented - picture of him on the front cover etc.
publishers will be encouraged to order extra copies for the field.
i don't think there is any memorial invitation distribution planned - this seems to replace that.

Hmmm... sounds like they've been reading too many of us on JWN saying they focus far too much on Jehovah and leave Jesus in the background.
No, they do this every year. It's like Christmas for other religion. They mention Jesus a couple of times in a specific time of year, then they're free to forget him for the rest of the year.

That antimatter stuff was almost as bad as the Radio Biola. Proof that the writers didn't go to college either?

They have no idea! Fools in darkness
by Aussie Oz inbeen snooping around facebook and am amazed!
(although i guess i shouldn't be) that the ordinary jw has no concept of the 'organization' in control.. every thing is 'jeh' 'jah' that, every teaching they support is attributed to jah.
every action.

*smacks Aussie with a lump of fake wood* Hey, we were all there too!
Naming Antartica after himself? The christian quality of humbleness just screams at you.
As I kept saying to my wife, if you don't like the current life, you will hate the new one too. Considering the Bible verses the WT uses to depict the paradise, it would not be an "all your dreams come true" place, it will be essentially this Earth, without sickness, death, or wicked people. That is all, you will still have to do hard work (even harder than now), and dreaming of big wealth, doing whatever you want just doesn't fit into the picture. If now you have what to eat, where to sleep and what to wear, you are healthy, and you live a relatively peaceful life (you aren't robbed every day now, are you?) your life would barely change, except you will have to work much more.

E-Watchman vs. Tim Kilgore Resurrection/Recreation Smackdown!
by Tuesday inalright so it's not as heated as i make it seem in my opening, but i said i'd keep everyone posted on this.
i would've posted the video here to get everyone's feedback but the response wasn't anything i hadn't dealt with a hundred times before, now it's just in video form.
in fact it was supposed to be an answer to my first tough question about resurrection vs. recreation but it didn't even answer the question at all, at least i feel.

Christians believe that the soul and body are seperate in that when we die our souls go to be with the Lord and when the day of reasurection comes, we're giving new glorified bodies for our souls to inhabit.
This. E-Watchman thinks this dilemma applies to other religions too, of being recreated in heaven. No it doesn't. In most other religions souls are not recreated, they are kept in their original form.

Their stand is not scriptural, it's purely "watchtowerorial".

From the articles it seems to me that the ruling only applies to the region of Rostov-on-Don. The court process started there, and the Supreme Court only upheld the ruling of the regional court. I don't think a regional court could make a ruling for all Russia.

want proof that the GB votes on doctrine
by Aussie Oz ini would like to find proof of this without refering to ray franz's c.o.c.
material.. is there anywhere a charter, a letter, a document that states stuff like a majority vote needed etc?.

It's a tough one. As Ray mentions in his book, there were no outsiders allowed in the meetings, except to report, then they leave. Also the WTS is extremely careful of what they put in writing. So I think the only source of the voting system is Ray Franz.
You could plant doubts though, by asking them what they think how is a decision made? Can it be alway unanimous? If there's an old teaching that needs to be changed, does it stay until an unanimous vote is reached? Or do they think the Holy Spirit guides every member to vote in a specific way? If that is true, why is the need for so many members instead of a single one? More members is useful when you need different oppinions only.

As for the origins, see this article: History of the piƱata . Yep, it's chok full of paganism.
