may 24 1997 wade thomas poyner, a prominent jehovah's witness in woodland, washington, is arrested for a lewd incident involving a preteen boy.
while not charged with that crime, poyner was charged for a summer 1991 rape of a 6 year old boy, and is suspected in nine other incidents involving preteen boys.

Emmyrose, that is exactly the way they treat those who cannot keep up. I saw this so often and since I left I have seen so many broken spirits that at times it has broken my heart ......
But we continue to live and heal ..... and while the scar left from our experience may stay tender for many years, it does toughen with time and we notice it less and less.
Learn to laugh - at yourself, the world, the borg. What have you always wanted to do? A hobby, a craft, school, whatever? Go and start doing it and feed your spirit with good things.
And if you like to get funnies, then write me and I will put you on my funnies list ..... I send out funnies to help us all smile and laugh and heal .....

This comment of yours reminded me about a wonderful and idealistic brother in my congregation, who was converted through the door-to-door witnessing. He began studying with JWs after teaching at an Ivy League university for more than three decades. This fellow was a PSYCHOLOGY PROFESSOR!!! Obviously, the brainwashing techniques the WTS uses are highly sophistcated
All thought reform techniques used by the cults are sophisticated to some degree or another ..... we had a brother going through psych when I was studying, and he had avoided Social Psych likethe plague once he got into 3rd year and only did what was absolutely necessary .... Why? Because 2nd year had challenged him too much
But we had a couple of professors and a few almost professors who were caught up in one cult or another. We had one of the Orange People ... now called Osho .... a couple of TMrs ... were so spaced out you thought they were lecturing in their sleep and one who was right into Scientology of all things.
It is't how intelligent you are that saves you from being caught up. It is comsumer awareness that makes the difference .... even professors can be made to sign on the dotter line by a good salesman!
We don't teach our young how to be really consumer aware of the manipulation use by advertising, salesperson, cults etc etc. When we do that fewer and fewer people will get caught.
If you watch here and on other chat boards you can see how influence works when you see people being influenced into one position or another and then after being able to think more about it, change their minds. At least on boards like this we have the opportunity to go away and think .... and we also have the opportunity now on the internet to do a little more research than we did when access to material was not so easy.
One day that psychology professor is going to wake up with what he learnt ringing in his ears and wet himself

why is it?
by esther inwhy is it that when a catholic is excommunicated, god will send him/her to hell when they die, but if a jw is disfellowshipped, the congregation sends them to hell immediately.

The BIGGEST difference is that it has to be pretty bad for a Catholic to be excommunicated. That is a step that is usually reserved for heretics who have the education and know better. Confession takes care of the other sins so if one commits adultary and is repentant and confesses and does penance, then they are given absolution by the priest and the priest leaves it in God's hands as to whether the person is truly forgiven or not.
On the other hand, in the pseudo-catholic church - the WTS - you are pulled onto the carpet, and if you do not sound repentant enough you are disfellowshipped and as you said, sent to hell.
I know which viewpoint is more compassionate ......

it seems like we're in the last days.... but then again, the last days have been going on for 60+ years!

Serafin, your parents are parroting the WTS ..... one day, I hope, they will wake up and your parents will bitterly regret having even thought that let alone saying it. Meanwhile, you can try and answer them all you wish, but they simply cannot see because of the control factor.
No one understands what it is like to lose a child except those who have had the experience. I truly feel for you .... I buried two of my own children and a 22 month old grand daughter a few years back ..... and some fundamentalist "christians" did the same thing to me, told me that I was out of God's will and that is why my grand daughter was killed. Seems I didn't attend church which was wrong in their eyes. It hurt me so much, but I can only imagine how much more it must have hurt you when it was your own parents.
It is good that you are able to talk out about this and show others just how low people go to defend their position. They had no answers for you so they attacked you personally ......

Hair-raising Tale!
by Free2Bme inlet's have some fun.did you find out some juicy gossip about a witness that you are just dying to blab?.
here's one from me.. i went to a hairdressing salon for the first time and the stylist was a camp male who never stopped chatting from the second he got his gesticulating paws on my scruffy mop.. my mum who is a devout jw was sitting reading a mag waiting for me.. next thing he's telling us about his gay male friend who is a bit down because he is having an affair with a jw.
to make things worse he is married with kids (the brother not the gay friend).. stifling my shock and trying not to look at my mum who is staring wildly and unseeingly at her mag i asked his name or address and although he didn't know the name he told us his street and district!.

I got the juicy gossip on this one early in the piece because I wasfostering teenagers at the time and they brought the young girl to me because they knew I would understand where she was coming from.
Not long later I was in Moe doing seminars in the area and who should be there ??????
