My JW ex-wife tried to turn me into an apostate, but I refused to join the Watchtower Society. -

What if WT will claim, that Jehovah has pulled a "Jonah and Nineveh" on them?
by prologos inwt seems to be helpless in really dealing with the failed prophecies, pending dates, overlapping groups--.. what if they declare victory, blame jehovah, in that he allowed the nations to come to their senses and not further escalate the use of weaponry, "destroying [life on] the earth"?
in a second fulfillment of .
the "repentant ninevites, disappointed jonah" bible story?

... second fulfillment of the "repentant Ninevites, disappointed Jonah" bible Story?
To consider themselves as latter-day Jonahs would be amusingly appropriate. The story of Jonah is about an unfaithful prophet who does his own will instead of obeying the Lord. A prophet who brings terror and danger to the entire ship's company until the pagan seamen cast him overboard. A prophet who had to be forced by divine intervention to do his job, and even then only did it reluctantly and cynically. A prophet who delighted in the prospect of mass annihilation, and was disappointed by true repentance. A prophet who is the model for the Governing Body!

"I would love to read the "precedents" they will send to attorneys representing JWs when custody of children is at issue. They might be pure nonsense, but responding to them will cost $$$"
Freeminds has a critique outlining the WT's "Preparing for Child Custody Cases" pamphlet. This BOE letter essentially admits that the pamphlet exists; they now will have a harder time claiming there is no such thing when an opposing attorney issues a subpoena demanding them to produce it in court.

Regarding #35: "Don't come back!" does not mean "Try again in two years." -

The True Mark edition of Gospel of JOHN!
by J-DUBBED ini just got one of these small books in our mailbox.
new living translation.
tyndale house publishers.

It's not likely to be from JWs. They are committed to the New World Translation. NIV tends to be a more idiomatic than literal translation. -

The conclusion then is either:
- The GB do NOT actually "scrutinize" each and every WTBTS publication, or
- All of them are poor proof-readers.
3. The GB and writing staff lack the education which normally would be expected of professional writers and editors.

After Mar 15 WT, who NOW is represented by the Wise Virgins??
by hamsterbait init used to be that the master "arrived in 1918" and the virgins put their lamps in order.
according to the noolite, the arrival is yet future.
however, the gibbering buddies now insist that the annointed have not fallen asleep, but stayed awake up until now.

prophetic interpretations of the parables
There is the root of the problem: not recognizing the different literary genres and styles used in biblical works, trying to turn them all into literal prophecies when the majority were written neither literally nor prophetically. Even the prophetic books (Isaiah, Jeremia, Ezekiel, etc.) often used more poetic styles familar to people of those days, helping them to be easily remembered (a necessity when written books were few and literally hand-written). Those linguistic nuances do not translate easily into modern language and experience, especially not the word-by-word translations favored in the Watchtower's NWT. The modern styles of writing we are familiar with were seldom used twenty centuries ago.

What's with this "no windows in kingdom halls" thing?
by Trapped in JW land ini hear many people on this forum say that kh's don't have windows.
but i have never been to one that didn't have windows.
is this only in a certain area or something?.

I understand that (locally) it's mostly a matter of cost: building costs and heating/cooling costs. Some of the larger halls in more affluent araes have windows, while smaller and poorer ones do without. Fitting and installing windows also is a task that takes some patience to do well, so it burdens the weekend "quick build" time table; here the cost is in hours rather than in dollars.
It could also be related to zoning laws. Often the city will require some minimum amount of windows so the building will fit in, not looking too "industrial" for the area. The building committee must include some windows in the plans, so they can get their building permit approved.

Have you found that,
- the longer she stays 'in' the greater her sense of entitlement?
- that any convo immediately reverts to the wt 'party line'
- any plan for any time together is screened against meeting schedules
Yes,
yes,
and yes.
It kept getting intense right up until I was handed divorce papers.

This has been a favorite of mine for almost four decades. Sung by Emmylou Harris, with back-ups from Neil Young, Dolly Parton, and Linda Rondstadt.
