Thanks for the update, Alan. I'm very pleased she is doing well, and on the road to full recovery. Of course it took 10 years off your life!

Update on AlanF's Daughter
by AlanF innow that dad has recovered his equilibrium, i just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who expressed concern about my daughter the last couple of weeks.
in the great scheme of things this is a minor matter but it sure affected me!
i guess my family has been pretty lucky compared to others.. anyway, julie (that's the daughter one, not the wifely one) recovered so fast that she returned to school this past monday.

I've met Norm, he's been to my home, and he's a neat person. I look forward to seeing him here and in person again. Jan is smart, but uses it to cut more than necessary, in my opion. I've known Jan from the Internet for many years, and he has presented many interesting thoughts but much of it is lost when he goes for the jugular. Kent is a one of a kind guy I would love to meet and share a few beers. I'm sure they'll post on the forum again when it warms up in Norway.

Being a JW means you never have to question anything in the Watchtower, you never have to read anything beyond the Watchtower, you know what you're required to do on the weekends and a few other evenings a week, and you'll never have to tell a loved one you are sorry for not speaking to them if they question the Watchtower. When the Watchtower flip-flops on "the Truth," you never have to worry about receiving an apology--that would be so disagreeable for "Mother." Yeah, I see the advantages now....

Could humans live forever on Earth?
by sleepy incould humans live forever on earth?.
since i was born i believed it was my destiny to live forever in a paradise on earth.. now that dream has been put aside, i question the whole concept of an everlasting earth.. of course scientists have long pointed out that the earth does not have an infinite life span.
and even if it did there are other factors to consider.

As a JW, I really did believe in the life everlasting carrot held before the flock. I didn't worry about the various issues arguing against the fairy tale, thinking "Jehovah can do anything." Religion offers "faith" not "facts." Groups like the Watchtower go beyond the norm by using fear to control, so members will turn off critical thinking. Indeed--life everlasting on earth; how crazy, but I believed it! Watchtower fairy dust works when the brain doesn't.

I didn't go!
by artful inwell, for the first time in 30 years i didn't go to the memorial.. it's actually a given me a great sense of relief!.
i hope that this is beginning of a long and happy relationship with god!
up until this past year i wasn't even sure if he existed.

artful - someone started another thread about Memorial no-shows. Like you, many didn't make it to the wine and bread show. I would rather take the garbage out than attend a KH service. It's been over 15 years since my last visit, and still remember it as a total waste of time.

How to really ruin a Memorial...
by Abaddon in... me and my gf came up with a few ways to spoil the wine and busicuits ceremony last night, feel free to join in;.
taking a jar of marmite, and spreading it on the bread before taking a bite.. asking if there's any dips when they pass the bread.. asking the attendant who passes you the wine if there's any cheese.. faking an entire choking episode; taking the bread, gagging, choking, heinlich (sp?
) manuever, the lot.. take a good swig of wine, swill it like a wine taster, spit it out over the attendant's shoes, pass it back to him and say "it's corked".. start speaking in tongues after taking the emblems.. kneel when the speaker prays over the emblems, and then troop down to the front like a good little rc.. stick a condom packet on the tray of bread.. a few of those are a bit weak, and i honestly couldn't be arsed actually doing any, but it's fun to think of the faces... anyone else got ideas?

Abaddon - Thanks for the laughs. I thought the "condom packet" suggestion was excellent. Memorial protection is important!

Sorry you lost you grandmother, rolling rock. I'm also sorry you'll hear a Watchtower Info-mercial instead of honoring and remembering her life.

It's been over 15 years since being in a KH. At this point it's embarrassing to think I gave a few of the Memorial talks to a congregation watching the wine and bread go by. Were we really that dumb?
