Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"
by BackseatDevil ini was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.
i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.
it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

No Booing Allowed At District Conventions Especially During Apostate Hate Speech Talks
by frankiespeakin inthis district assembly talk is so bad it a shame that no one is allowed to get up boo it, or voice anything negative about it, they have a captive audience of heads noding yes and claps of approval and agreement with every word or else.. it would liven up things if a group spread out in a stadium and started yelling "hate speech hate speech!
" .

they'd rejoice in the persecution.........
and the attendants remove hecklers from the audience........

JW Grammar is...
by jw07 in*we are all from different cultural and educational backgrounds, we all experience different circumstances in life, and i don't mean to offend anyone on this forum in any way.*.
with that said here are my observations, and i want to know what you have observed.. in my experience i have noticed a trend: zealous witnessestend to exhibit the worst grammar when compared to non-witnesses!.
i want you to think back, or check it out for yourself if you haven't noticed it.. on social networks: compare comments on anything by jws (especially the uber-zealous ones) with those of your atheist or other religiously affiliated friends.

that was one of the things that appalled me at meetings - not all, but way too many had no concept of the proper use of the english language.

Circuit Overseer sign up sheet
by A question ineveryone knows that people sign up to have the co over for lunch wed. through fri. but in your area, did they (even privately, outside of a sign up sheet) also invite him over sometimes for dinner as well, at all?
is this something that varies by co?.

we had one who especially befriended us because (i think) he thought we were $$$$......and we did take him and his loco wife out to $$$$ restuarants a couple times..........
as for the lunches - i always had a full-time job so it was out of the question!!!

Why elders' wives are such gossipers...
by Calebs Airplane ini have a theory as to why elders' wives gossip so much.
i believe a big part of it has to do with the conversation running dry (between themselves and their elder husbands) after so many years of marriage.
since they don't get to spend too much "quality time" together (because of the elder husband's hamster wheel schedule), when they do have some intimate time alone, the elder's wives will invaribly attempt to engage their husbands in any kind of interchange.

its a very judgemental religion - and people fall into that - if someone is insecure, he/she tends to put others down, so as to elevate self. the religion breeds insecurity, you are made to feel never good enough, so in order to maintain a modicum of self-esteem (which is a basic human need for mental/emotional health) they have to create a sense of personal superiority - what better way than to knock someone else.
and blondie makes very good points. i had a father who was an elder and while i think he kept his mouth shut about some things, there was plenty that i knew about. but - i was not the gossip - i always hated it - and i was the victim of one helluva lot of it in that cong...........

i say if you are comfortable with it - go for it! not all of us are in that comfort zone, like LouBelle - but we respect eachother's decisions and feelings.

I am free
by new hope and happiness inyes the title of my first post was a little negative " shatterd faith" and the truth is i dont feel like that at all.. its wonderful being in a state of not knowing as it makes hope possible.
and what i now learn i will learn from within and also enjoy doubt.. so why do i call this post " i am free"?
because i will no longer allow a tiny few control the direction of my life.

Nothing like freedom! Free to think, to feel, to be the individual you are - no longer tormented into a robotic mind-numbing routine that really always went against the grain but that you accepted because of the perpetual damnation of guilt.........
vidqun - it galls me that the assumption is that if you are no longer part of their group you must be some sort of evil deviate. some of us have ethical standards that we live by - irrespective of religious beliefs or associations. and some of the most ethically poor people that i have ever known in my life were staunch jw's. go figure.
