we once had a rubbish can in a carport and had some fish or meat wrappings, whatever it was i really don't remember - but an oppossum got in and never managed to get out - months later my husband found the carcass...........(it was winter/frozen)
then there was a pigeon that ate his way into a birdfeeder and died in there - he was too dammm fat to get back out apparently.

i find it reprehensive when they preach this from the platform, they do not want jws (who are individuals) to have any individuality.
they want people to be their personal robots with no free will.

but i ask, why did the men that were annointed not immediately appointed as an elder, and then a circuit overseer and so on up the ranks.
it would seem to me, that if god saw them fit to rule in heaven.

my grandfather was one of those - he came over from the old country around the time of the first world war, ran into the bible students and became a baptized member - and they were all anointed back then. he never mastered the english language - he did take the lead in the area back in the 30's....and i imagine was the main guy - whatever they called them in that era - but in my childhood and up until he died he never held a "position of oversight". he was big on fs, of course....i think he was well-meaning enough, but sired a most dysfunctional bunch....a couple of us are still amazed we ended up relatively normal.

i do disagree amelia, regarding the Bible. while the gist of things may remain, nuances of meaning most certainly have been lost. also we must remember that the very nature of the English language is imprecision. it is a rough language, and the intrinsic meaning of many words from ancient Hebrew and/or Greek and/or Latin have been lost over the generations. add to the the changes in culture, societies over the centuries, and while basic principles contained in the Bible - love of neighbor, justice, my very favorite from Micah to embrace kindness, love justice and be modest in walking with our God - remain.
Did Ezekiel really lay there all that time and char grits or whatever on dung cakes? or has something radically been lost in translation over the centures? did he do it in shifts and get up from time to time and stretch his muscles or go relieve nature? did he drink water? the human body doesn't survive for long without it.......realism comes into play.....imho.......(hahhaha mda)

some abandon the use of capitals as it adds an extra keystroke, hence over time causes wear and tear, not to mention loss of time. however, in some areas it is essential to bow to the norm and capitalize.
i do not condone the dumbing down of anything - language and communication included. modern technology has spawned a type of newspeak that may work among those who embrace it, but in the grand scheme of things will add nothing to the art of communication. i see it as an overall circumstance that leads to the dumbing down of society. kids no longer have to learn history, mathematics - they simply fly to the internet and look up answers. this does not improve the brain capacity - the need for curiosity and for learning to enhance ones skills and abilities. it produces lazy minds who are set in play mode and instant gratification and do not have to think.
You're absolutely on the right track, Terry. I appreciate your dialogue on this subject.

What is the most out of line / disturbing experience you have seen from Circuit Overseers?
by Poindexter Lionel Humperdique ini once heard of a circuit overseer blaming a loyal ministerial servant, that served as the accounts servant, of steeling from the contribution boxes, simply because he deposited the congregation funds bi-weekly instead of twice a week.
due to the accusation, the ms was immediately removed without hearing his side of the story.
isn't this rather counter-intuitive and innefficient?

no emery - sheepdogs are very cute and sweet.........they're more like nasty pit bulls that get their jaws in and won't give up. at least some of the dudes described here. the really nice ones were pretty few and far between - but they invariably were older who'd raised a family, worked for a living and had a little better sense of reality.
i remember one that particularly disgusted me - he'd come and get up there and make fun of the congregation...and ohhh how everyone loved him and thought he was soooooooo wonderful. they guy was so full of himself it was appalling. he was another one of those standing up front waiting for people to come do obeisance. i never spoke to him once in his rotation. who needs that kind of arrogance.
then there was one particularly mean-spirited one who gave a special needs talk aimed at a poor young man whose wife had opted out and divorced him.....he ragged on about making poor decisions....it was so uncalled for and unnecessary. the gentleman in question had done everything to preserve his marriage - but seriously, he ended up a lot better off without the tramp.

re: besty's comment....aside from staying at the cheap motels, how is the economy going to see a boost if they aren't allowed to leave the premises for lunch/entertainment/whatever? plus - with one-day deals, there's nothing to be made by local biz.......
