hi all, i left the wts in the late `80s, i`ve not really given them a thought, until one sleepless night recently i was trawling the `tinterweb, and came across various videos on youtube.
anyway`s, the reasons i left were many and varied, and one day i`ll sit down and relate them, but two things have always stuck in my mind, once i was asked "if someone could convince you that without a doubt "the truth" was wrong, would you believe them?
", to which i answered "of course i would", - that was me marked.
This has always bothered me. (I am from the states and am unfamiliar with the RNLI).
At one convention, there was only one grocery store within 20 miles of the convention site. All of the attendees went there immediately after the sessions. As I was entering the store with my family, I noticed a small stand set up by a local non-profit charitable organization. I walked past without making eye contact. Later, on my way out of the store, the person manning the small stand confronted me and asked me why not a single one of these nice, well-dressed Witnesses would give him a single dime. I gave him the lame excuse that most of these people had probably spent all of their money just getting to the convention site.
His reply was that if the giving had been less than average, he would have understood. But NOT ONE WITNESS gave a SINGLE PENNY to this charity. I was at a loss for words, and left. Without giving anything.

i did initially.
i had doubts about some doctrines for years - but not until after leaving the witnesses was i free to be able to confirm my suspicions and see that yes, i did have valid reasons to have doubts all those years .
Doctrine doctrine doctrine doctrine. Lies, coverups, lies, and also lies. Did I mention lies, coverups, and doctrine?
I must add, though, that I have nothing personal against ANYONE in the congregations that I have associated with. They are full of unique individuals who have for the most part been duped and are doing the best that they can, given what they have to work with. I simply cannot go along with lies, even if it is the path of least resistance for a born-in JW.
Edit: Coffee, I just went back and re-read your comments more carefully. It is amazing and powerful stuff. Thanks so much for bringing it back to a current thread since some of us newer folks may never have read it.

10857 is the latest number for memorial partakers then you have to go back to 1967 to get a higher number, 10981.. i wonder why they they don't print this in the january magazine anymore.. will they omit it even from the printed yearbook and only leave it as an mp3 online download?.

Hmm, I personally knew one of those who just started partaking this past year. I haven't seen her in years, but found out through my mom. Born in, in her 60s now. Husband has been an elder for decades. Their only child was a JW "prodigy", and an elder, pioneer, and possibly (I don't want to say for sure without verifying) a Gilead grad. I distinctly remember nasty things being said about him when he left 'the truth' a few years back, especially since he was doing well with a good career. I guess she decided to marry Jesus to make things all better
this is a direct continuation od part iv.................................... you can imagine the reaction of the people who saw me storm out of the hall but what happened in the elders meeting after i left was even funnier.

did you use wt dates as well as things found from a secular perspective?
if a witness was researching the 607 dates strictly from watchtower info, would it still become clear they are wrong?
or does the wtbs *make* the dates add up...?
