i was driving home the other evening pondering the past couple of turbulant years for me and my family.

i reflected back on my appointment as a ministerial servant and my attitude, beliefs and thinking at the time.

i thought about the subsequent misery that being a servant brings once the the glow wears off and people stop "commending you on your fine spiritual progress.

When I was baptised at 12, I thought that maybe my dedication would prompt god to give me a little holy spirit to help me to stop ogling the JC Penney bra models and committing fornication in my heart.

The first time I was appointed an MS I had given up on the JC Penney models and had moved on to racier content. Still, I thought that maybe holy spirit would descend upon me if I tried really hard at my MS duties.

The second time I was appointed an MS, I had given up on the idea of magical holy spirit but not on the idea of god's organization. Drinking helped to keep that idea afloat, for a little while.

Fun thread, SBC. I remember seeing this email and enjoying it immensely. It's funny, some apologists have complained that skeptics keep harping on the same issues with the bible. To me, it speaks to the fact that these issues can not be explained away while maintaining the position that the bible is the inerrant word of god. As long as the bible is used to prop up certain views, those uncomfortable and nasty parts of the bible will be there for skeptics to point to.

Indeed, the word of god is unchanging...since, you know, they finished writing it a long time ago.

guilt tripping isn't working!

i had a ms come into my work today to encourage me to come back to the meetings.

he asked me how i was doing and i smiled real big and told him i was doing wonderful!!!

he was completely confused because i think i was supposed to be feeling bad and guilty for not going out in service and feeling like the wrath of jehovah was upon me.

A relative of mine who is DF'd and is doing very well, had a visit from another relative to "encourage" her. The relative went inside, looked around at the beautiful home and surroundings, and said, "Well, it looks like Satan is taking good care of you."

To them, you're never doing well unless you're at the KH. They have strange definitions of "good", "well", and "happy".
