So, let me get this straight...we have to "celebrate" the death of our Lord after sundown, 'cos that's the Jewish calendar way, right? BUT... Passover began after sundown YESTERDAY???? What the...??? Can someone confirm that this is totally screwed up and the JW's are a day late and a dollar short??? Jbean

When is Nissan 14?
by Dawn inok - here is an interesting one for ya'll.
just throwing it out there for your thoughts.. the "lords evening meal" is always celebrated on the day that corresponds to nissan 14. my parents are still jw's and (as ya'll know) the memorial service is the "most important meeting of the year" - they literally cry if i don't go.
so i'm thinking - i'll show my mother and father honor by going - i can fake it through one meeting right?!

Hi there Zev... I want to say congratulations... but still that seems kind of the wrong thing to say, ya know? I am so happy for you with the decision you made. I'm glad you're feeling really good about it. May I ask what part of Rhode Island you're in? I'm kind of close... and thought maybe, one day when I'm in the state, I'd love get in touch just to chat. It seems many of the folks here live far away from "us". : ) I'm hoping to achieve what you have sometime soon... again... congrats.

A Heads Up On Potential Heads Off...
by hillary_step inhello,.
some of you who have 'drifted' from the wts may not be aware than in recent months the wts has required co's to report the names and circumstances of those who have become 'inactive'.
the elders are required to visit each one and report to the co on his next visit as to where they are, who they are and why they have gone 'inactive'.. as ever there may be mixed motives with this arrangement, but it as well to be prepared.. best regards - hs

As I said on another post... yup, going. Out of respect for my JW parents. I'm not ready to let the hammer drop yet. (But I think we're doing dinner at a fancy schmancy restaurant first... I'll have my wine THEN!) : )

memorial ettiquette for worldy people??????
by concerned mama ini have been away for a few days, so forgive me if this has already been covered.. am i (a non jw) supposed to refer to the memorial in any way talking to a jw?
for example, would i say "happy memorial", or could i ask if they had a nice celebration?
since it is the one and only big day each year is there some way to acknowledge it in a friendly type conversational way?

Concerned Mama... goodmorning! Your post gave me a chuckle... not because it wasn't good questions you were asking, but I could just imagine a JW's face if you said "Happy Memorial"! : ) Priceless! To be honest though, JW's don't say happy ANYTHING, except maybe happy anniversary. How weird is THAT? You can't say happy birthday but you can say happy anniversary. Totally bizarre. Jbean

The Memorial has just Started
by Prisca inwell, it's almost 7pm in sydney australia and no doubt some congregations would be starting their memorials very soon, if not already.
due to the overcast conditions, i can't see the moon, but one of the special things about this time of the year is seeing the full moon, which reminds me of the specialness of the memorial ritual held for me as i was growing up.. this is the second time in my entire life that i will be absent from the memorial.
it was strange last year to be not attending for the first time ever, but this year i feel more comfortable about it.. i'm not sure why.

Well folks, I need to say that I am going tonite. Basically because of 2 things: my parents and the thought that I DO need to do something to acknowledge Christ's sacrifice (as someone else said). I'm going to the JW memorial though, for my folks sake ONLY, cos it's true, I could go to another church to "celebrate", I guess. Anyhow... if anything different/funny stands out tonite, I'll be sure to post it tomorrow! Wish me luck as I take a deeeeepppp breath and put on a smile. [8>]

this website
by little_lamb_on_a_hill ini just stumbled onto this website whilst messing about on the internet and i've taken exception to quite a lot of what i've seen here.
incase you think i'm some irate jehovah's witness idiot who's been offended by the terrible blasphemy that he's read on here, i'm not.
i was raised a jw, but now i'm not one.. first of all, given the url, i thought this website was in some way affiliated with the jehovah's witness organization, whereas in reality it seems from the posts i've read that most people here are either former jehovah's witnesses or soon-to-be former jehovah's witnesses.

I'm not here to expose anything... I personally am here for encouragement and understanding. This from people who have been through similar experiences as I have/am going through... and many times these experiences are horrific and heartbreaking. That's why I'M here. I'm sure you can also understand that many still have family that are "in" and would like to assist them in seeing the crookedness of the organization, so the family can be truly re-united in love.
