It's the History channel. They'll find a way to get most of it wrong.

the hobbit
by Hortensia ini downloaded the hobbit.
didn't see it in theaters because at nearly three hours, it's just too damned long.
not sure i'm going to make it through the whole movie.

J R R Tolkien left behind a HUGE body of work on Middle Earth. The Hobbit and LOTR are only the most well known part of the cannon. PJ took big pieces of background material and worked them into the movie. Additionally, the dwarves singing and throwing dishes IS in the original.
That said, he took some liberties I did not care for, notably Radagast's sled and Bilbo's characterization. I still plan on seeing the other two.

Take care. We used to live in the Snoqualmie valley, which floods to some extent every year. Our house was on a little rise so we never got flooded, but there were times we couldn't get anywhere.

by frankiespeakin inhttp://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,307058,00.html.
the father of a fallen marine was awarded nearly $11 million wednesday in damages by a jury that found leaders of a fundamentalist church had invaded the family's privacy and inflicted emotional distress when they picketed the marine's funeral.. .
the jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages.

What normal person would argue against this on *any* grounds.
Simon, you're talking about lawyers here. /ducking and running in case BOTR sees that/
Seriously, there are some complications with first amendment rulings on stuff like this. The chuch has a right to practice its religion as it sees fit as long as its not doing anything otherwise illegal. People do all sorts of offensive things in public places that are permissible under the law. I hate to admit it but back about 1970 I was in on an anti-war protest that involved among other things, a dismembered and disemboweled pig.
One of these days some one is going to beat the crap out of some Westboro people and we'll have an interesting court case about inciting violence.

TWA flight 800....a cover up conspiracy I happen to believe...
by Glander inthe official ruling that it was faulty wiring in a fuel pump that caused a boeing 747, 11 mins after take-off, to explode never seemed credible.
that, plus eye witness accounts of a streak of light going up, towards the plane, were explained away with the most contorted reasoning.. the plane's altitude had not exceeded the range of a shoulder fired, "stinger" missile which could easily have been fired from a boat.
other theories are that it was a us navy missile.
-
JeffT
Flight 800 was at 16,000 feet when it blew up. The maximum range of a Stinger is 3 miles. The plane might have been within maximum range, but just barely. Firing a Stinger missile from a small boat and hitting a target at max range would be hard to say the least. The ship that was supposedly involved was on the other side of the world.
Get a grip people.
PS, a number of you folks want the government running my retirement finances, my healthcare, my children's and grandchildren's education system, my food safety, my business practices, my transportation system, my utilities, my phone system, the internet, and God knows what else. Then you post messages that say you think this same government is killing random citizens for no reason that is apparent to a rational person. That's fine, but don't expect me to take you seriously on the first part of this paragraph.

I9s for volunteers
by dissonance_resolved incan you think of any reason why they would start making bethel volunteers complete i9s?
(us work authorization forms).
no compensation is received so why would it be considered employment?.
-
JeffT
What exwhyzee said. The I9 provides proof that they have a legal right to be here and doing something. I bet INS uncovered some scam somewhere that involved work being done by foreign "volunteers" who weren't even in the country legally. I wouldn't read too much into this. The W4 and W9 forms are the ones concerned with tax status.

7 graphs that prove America is overrated
by Simon inbefore the usual suspects start reaching for the pich-forks and forming a mob, i invite you to actually read and consider this, not just leap to conclusions.. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/americas/united-states/130607/7-graphs-america-overrated-nsa-prism-privacy.
why do i care?
it seems the people being screwed the most are also the most visciferous defenders of the status quo which sees them being severely disadvantaged.. maternity leave?
-
JeffT
I agree with several of those graphs, notably the one on our government spying on us. I think the salient fact about the assualt graph is that the problem peaked 30+ years ago and has been getting better ever since.

Making a Last Will and testament for ex JWs
by Simon inso you survived the wts upbringing and despite a bad start managed to put your life back together and plan for the future:.
pension planning and general finance for ex-jws.
sadly, you may find yourself still at a disadvantage as you lack the support group of friends and family that many rely on and could be cut-off even from immediate family.. but it can't get any worse can it?.

Making a will means that your estate will go through probate
Not necessarily, and setting up a trust is not exactly cheap. Not doing anything can be a complete mess. See a lawyer in your state if you want real advice.
