I don't think that shutting off diplomatic relations is a good idea, unless you've made a decision to go to war. Not talking to another country that's only 90 miles away is not a good thing. However, I think he may have just lost Florida for the Democrats. The Cuban-American community there is VERY powerful, and VERY emotional about this.

Cofty, I agree wholeheartedly. If that's what they want to do, fine - as long as its on their dime.
Snare&Racket, same thing. Is this homecare network taking public money? If it is, they should not be allowed to discriminate. If they're paying for it they can do what they want.

Did you AWAKEN from the JWs by yourself?
by cultBgone ini was thinking about how so many posters here on jwn are frustrated and frantic to help their loved ones get away from the brainwashing of jws, and how much advice is given about how to help family members and loved ones.
i considered my own leaving and that it was internal turmoil based on the teachings getting weirder and child abuse issues, to name just a few, and it made me wonder:.
did you self-awaken or were you assisted by the gentle proddings of a friend or family member?

Wife and I left on our own, the Watchtower's own words were enough to push us away. Some research at the library confirmed for us that we wanted no part of this religion. The internet did not exist then (1988). After we left we joined a once a month support group for a year or so.

Just quit quietly - the law is on your side!
by Ajax infreedon of religion guarantees any individual the legal right to abandon any religion at any time for any reason.. if you are a citizen of a country which champions human rights, then your government doesn t care what religion you join, but they will uphold your freedom to join it, without interference, coercion or persecution.
your countries human rights legislation will conversely uphold your rights when it comes time to abandon any religion you so choose.
those (elders) who incite others interfere, coerce or persecute those who have left will be in transgression of the human rights statutes.. a person is only obligated to ecclesiastic law if he exposes himself to it or transgressed it while still a member of a religious community.. when your time comes to abandon the jw-wt cult, do it while still in good standing, be proactive - be decisive -put it in writing!..and do it before the hounders set sights on you.. write a card or letter with as much or as little explanation as you one day might wish to share with pharisees and lawyers.. take this card to a notary public to have your signature witnessed and have the writing overstamped in several places with the date.

Other countries have a better balance of rights.
What does this mean?

Does anybody know if this will hold up in court. In other words can this be used to bring a suit against the watchtower?
No it won't. The Watchtower is also free to associate or not associate with people as it sees fit. And you're free to leave if you want. Your family and freinds are free to stop talking to you if they so desire. The UN statement on freedom of religion is more like a goal or a statement of principle than a law.

This could be an interesting court case to watch.
by JeffT inhttp://www.christianpost.com/news/kansas-church-that-left-presbyterian-church-usa-takes-property-fight-to-court-130936/the short version: a presbyterian congregation voted to leave the presbyterian church (usa) and join a more conservative presbyterian organization.
the lawsuit is over who owns the building.
obviously, this is of interest to the xjw community given the recent land grab by the watchtower society.

I blogged awhile back about a California case where the judge ruled that the Watchtower, as a hierarchical church could do what it wanted, no matter what the locals decide. This case may be different in that the locals have decided to join a different church. Do they get to take their building with them?
This could have a lot of impact on the churches in the US, no matter which way it goes. http://pathologicallyintellectual.blogspot.com -

Every recovering alcoholic/addict contemplates using again, smart ones take an extra second to contemplate the resulting desctruction in their lives and move on quickly.
Asking me if I want to go back to the KH initiates the same process.
