  Which is better minimum wage or minimum income?

  we were having this discussion in the office the other day and we came to the conclusion minimum wage is better because it still adds to the economy vs minimum income which someone could potentially stay at home and do nothing and still get paid without producing a thing for the greater economy.. thoughts?.

  The big burger chains are exploring and/or making trial runs with automating a lot of their jobs. The cooking will be done by robots and cashiers will be replaced by machines where you punch in your order and pay for it without human intervention. Essentially they just turn the cash registers around. The only humans left will be one person to hand you you order, and another to mop the floor.

  These used to be the jobs where high school students started out, learning basics skills like showing up for work on time and not pissing off the customers (or the boss). I don't know what all these kids will do in the future.

  This is one reason why I don't like raising the minimum wage. Part of your pay is learning those basic skills. Nobody wants to pay somebody who doesn't know what they're doing $20/hr to do it. After you've proven yourself, you move on to a better job.

  It's interesting to watch people support higher wages on one thread, and argue for importing cheap labor on another thread. You apparently don't notice (or don't want to notice) that people who employ illegal labor don't pay much attention to labor laws.

  Come on, Mainstream Media!

  it has been sickening to read the most recently leaked documents by faithleaks.

  it makes me so angry because so many of us have experienced first hand the horrible policies of the watchtower on abuse.

  i feel like these documents are finally the smoking gun we have all been hoping to expose the watchtower, and so far, the only mainstream news that i have seen pick it up is newsweek.. what will it take for the mainstream media pick this up and give it the attention it deserves?

  You have to keep in mind what drives the media, like everyone else, it's money. The question reporters ask is not "is this an important story?" It's "will this story attract viewers/readers?" In the case of JW's the answers to those questions are "maybe" and "not many." So we get a story here or there because it will interest a few people, I don't think the media will ever go into full blown coverage of JW issues for a simple reason: if you ask a large number of people if they care about Jehovah's Witnesses and what they do, the answer will be "no."

  Were visits to the library an important part of your childhood?

  greetings, fellow bibliophiles:.

  i remember how sad i was, as a little child, when our beloved carnegie library was razed (unsafe, structurally).

  the same tragedy occurred when we moved to a new town and that similar architectural treasure was demolished to put up a new and gleaming building of steel and glass.

  I wasn't raised JW. Trips to the library were a regular thing as far back as I can remember. I just looked it up, I don't think the library we went to has changed at all. By the time we moved I think I'd read everything they had on astronomy, mythology, and WWII, plus a lot of fiction relating to those subjects.

  

  Even after I became a JW I continued going to the library. By that time I was working for Washington State University and had access to something over two million volumes. I never looked up JW's. Go figure. I still go to the library frequently.

  Stealing From The Worldwide Work Fund.

  all the money paid out by the watchtower to the child abuse law suits comes from the worldwide work fund or the contributions from the monies given for the kingdom hall real estate.

  so,when we were actively involved donating funds for this purpose,and the watchtower used those funds for purposes other than the worldwide work are they not guilty of stealing funds that were donated for jehovah's kingdom.

  can anything legal be done about this?

  Have they ever defined what they meant by "the world wide work?" I don't believe they have. If so, it could be taken to mean "whatever it takes to run the Watchtower" which could include paying out lawsuits, as a cost of doing business.

  Did man really go to the moon?

  Simple proof that we made it to the moon:

  The whole thing was driven by competition between the USSR and USA. The live TV shots originated on the moon. It would seem obvious that the Russians would have had a directional antenna pointed at the moon. If those TV images had not been transmitted from the moon, they would have screamed at the tops of their lungs. The fact that they didn't is proof we got there and have the TV pictures to prove it.

  i thought the flat earth conspiracy theory was strange but ive just read an article about a new conspiracy theory that the earth is hollow and that its a paradise there and 8 foot tall intellectually advanced aliens live there who send space ships out every so often to check on mankind.

  apparently lost viking colonies and nazis that fled there after world war 2 are living there immortally 🤣🤣 .

  this world just gets better and better 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

  It's not a new theory, it started out in the late 1600's; and had a rational basis at the time as it was an attempt to explain movement of the magnetic poles.

  None. Nationalism creates an "us" and "them"

  Nonsense. "Us" and "them" preceded nationalism by several thousand years. Before we had nations, we had city-states, before that we had tribes. Medieval Europe wasn't all that great a place to live.
