Elder won't marry mum because my brother's gay

i know that the elders and all jws have stupid "conscience" decisions to make from time to time, but this topped it for me.. my brother's gay and that's why he left the religion a few years ago.

now my mum wants to get re-married to another brother but the elder that she asked to marry them both declined.

he says that it would bother his conscience too much "because of luke living with you, because he's...ya know...gay!".

I know the situation iMarx speaks of. Luke isnt df'd or da'd, he never got baptised. He lives by the rules in his mother's house. Despite this, the elder won't marry his mother or fiancee, a bro and sis both in good standing. By making an issue of this the elder calls in to question every single witness living in a household with a child/young person not living by bible standards OUTSIDE of the family home.

I am so glad to be out of it - a man made religion with pompous men and their stupid life wrecking rules!

Burn the Ships I disagree with your statement 'For those that believe, no further evidence is necessary, for those that do not, no further evidence is sufficient'. Concrete evidence would convince me there was a creator. Unfortunately there isn't any and that leaves me with the conclusion that a silent God means NO God.

The fact the bible is so bloody confusing is why there are so many squabbling sects/cults/religions. I figured that if the God of the bible existed he would not leave the creation he claimed to love so much, trying to work out what the damn hell he wants from us.

Well my son is an atheist, and he didnt experience a demon attack exactly, but he did relate a very weird experience to me.

He was with two friends in a car and broke down about 1 am, somewhere in the countryside, south of England. They phoned a breakdown service and whilst waiting to be picked up they saw a man, dressed in suit of armor with a sword, come out from a bush, run in front of the car, and disappear behind a tree. All three saw it and thought 'crap what was that'. He ran in front of them about three times before it finally stopped. I suggested perhaps they should stop taking drugs! He said two of them had been drinking, but the driver obviously hadnt, but they all saw the same thing. I said perhaps it was someone on the way home from a fancy dress party having a bit of fun, but he says they were miles from anywhere. He has a theory that like people have memories, objects may have memories too. I am not sure what to think. An interesting theory. Mass hallucination is a strange phenomena.

my first real birthday party

well, today is my birthday and i will be getting a real cake with a real candle - my dear bride-to-be promised not to put 43 candles on the cake.

it is just going to be me, her, and her 8 year old (and soon to be my step) son.

As another poster commented, from the inside of jwland, no. It all made perfect sense to me while I was in. Now I have been out for several months and I am not being constantly told what to think, I can see it for what it is - one screwed up religion.

"True Christians Give Out of Love"

in the congregation bible study for the week of nov 30, the subject of christmas is studied (along with easter, birthdays, and halloween), but under the subheading related to christmas being a pagan holiday, jesus not being born on dec 25, yadda yadda, the point is brought out that true christians give out of love, not out of compulsion or on any specific day (not the exact quote mind you).

true christians give out of love...so all the "bad" christians who give presents to family and friends and loved ones on christmas don't do so because they love those to whom they give gifts, but rather because they have to...because its dec 25...?.

is this the kind of tactic the wts has employed to maintain control of their followers?

That as per, is just JW propaganda. Most of the jws in my old cong had a 'present day' - one special day a year to show love to family members. So what is the difference between that and doing it at Christmas? Same spin, different date.
