  Musings on WT transformation

  contemplating the watchtowers attempt at washing away 100 years of cult stink, i had another thought.

  the wbt$ could be transitioning from a growth model to a retention model, particularly in 1st world nations.

  Interesting OP. I do think they want to beef up retention rates, with so much bleeding out of young talent and strength, it would make sense to me if they are making efforts to keep the next generation within the Org.

  However, I think they are also aware that they cannot succeed if their efforts are mostly coercive. They've not given a $h¡t about losing members who were able to think for themselves and live successful and comfortable lives. Coercion just drives these sort of people away.

  All they'll be left is with followers who can't think for themselves and don't live successful lives and are uncomfortably stuck in low paying jobs. These folks may be easier to control, but they require more maintenance, more attention, more commendation, more guiding, more counselling and even more reprimanding, The final outcome may likely be toxic and untenable for the WTS.

  Watch Tower appeal unfavourable judgement in Otuo v Morley and Watch Tower

  sir david eady sitting as emeritus high court judge, quite likely in court 13 of the high court in the queens bench division at 10:30am tomorrow will hear an appeal against the decision of master leslie refusing to strike out a claim from mr otuo against an elder, j morley of the wimbledon congregation in england.

  watch tower seeks to assert that the repetition of the allegation of fraud by the said elder at a meeting to hear the reinstatement application of the claimant in the presence of three other elders can not amount to publication sufficient to found a claim in slander.

  further, the occasion should attract qualified privilege and as such even if the words were defamatory of otuo, the defendants should be protected in law by the privilege in so as far they acted in good faith.

  they obviously know it.. in the last few years, a more modern, hip, and cool image for their brand has been foisted on the public at large.. jw.org.

  (sidebar: a group of us witnesses, when i was a teen, were sternly lectured by a circuit servant about how wrong it was to refer to ourselves as jw's.want to know why?

  he said, "reducing jehovah's name to mere letters of an alphabet is blasphemy!

  When Rutherford first announced the name change there had been banners with big capital JW letters all over the convention grounds, Bible Students had little clue what this stood for and were asking each other.

  Then during the program Rutherford divulged their name was changing to Jehovah's Witnesses, so now everyone knew what JW stood for.

  interestingly, jws in norway actually do invite people to attend convention in stockholm, even from the city of bod, some 1176 km away (driving distance 14 h 30 m away).. .

  Was there a message along with the attachment? Some of us in my congregation also got a message, over a year ago, similar to what you're describing with CofC attached to it.

  The elders were all over this and it was the talk of the car-groups for a few weeks last year.

  It was almost like if you didn't get one you kinda felt bad and knew you weren't in somebody's contact list who shared a message with a hundred JW buddies email addresses in the To: field and you weren't included.

  No shorts or printed T-shirts when making ready the stadium before the RC

  just heard the stupidest thing ever on this weeks service meeting: it was regarding the volunteers for cleaning the stadium before rc.

  they are not allowed to wear shorts or printed t-shirts .but hey its summer!

  Has Gerrit Loesch of the Governing Body been in any more monthly broadcast since he refused to honor a court subpoena?

  he denied being in subjection to the the watchtower corporation so are they still using him in their regular monthly broadcast.

  You can still sue the WT, and if you win, the cost of whatever damages they incur will be passed on to the congregations of R&F.

  What the lawyers seem to be counselling the GB to do is to word their statements for the courts so that they are shielded from personal exposure to lawsuits.

  I'm sure though that if the Pope issued some weirdo bull and this elicited lawsuits from disgruntled ex-Catholics who were harmed as a result, the Pope would be included by name in the lawsuit. I'm also sure that the Roman Catholic religion has non-profit corporations that do the hierarchy's bidding.

  How would this be different from the GB and the WT corp?
