Validity of JW Baptism

please could someone tell me what is said in a jw baptism?

i was told that jw baptisms are invalid because they do not baptise in the "name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit.

because of this invalid baptism a catholic cannot marry a jw with church approval, i think.

DC, no I do not view infant baptism by (for example The Chuch of England) as invalid.

It`s just that in my case I was never baptised as an infant, If I had been, then the Jehovah`s Witness baptism I underwent as an adult, would have been in my opinion, superfluous, to what I believe today.

As it is, I have only ever been "dipped", by the Jehovah`s Witnesses, and at the time I was baptised "In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit", I view that as acceptable. If I had been baptized under the current wording "...........God`s spirit directed organisation", I would not be happy with viewing that as acceptable to me today.

I hope that makes it a bit clearer for you my view.

This may rub against the grain, but I was baptised in 1983 by the Jehovah`s Witnesses, as I understand it at thet time one was baptised "in the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit".

I was never bapatised into the CoE as an infant, so I view my JW baptism as valid.

All though I have been DF/Da`d from the Witnesses for 20 years, I view that public baptism as valid.

I trust that God knows who`s who, whatever outward display a person makes, and if (as I do) you view salvation as not being earned, but given through God`s grace, then I don`t feel the need to have a dunk with a mainstrem church

Just my personal view.

How many DF'ed on this board have actually had...

how many disfellowshipped ones on this board have actually had follow up elder visits "encouraging" them to return to the meetings?.

i have been df'ed for 15 years now, and i have never had one visit (i am not saying that is a bad thing!

) from an elder encouraging me to return to the organization.

I left in 1988, I spoke to one Elder in 1996 who happened to catch me in, and I told him in no uncertain terms that I would never be interested in going back ever.

Since then I haven`t said anything to them at all, and to be fair, they have not bothered me since.

I'm going back!!!

well, kinda.

i'll be moving across country in a few weeks and i want to get a different perspective on this religion.

so i'm playing the theocratic warfare card, rather than let them know i was once a witness and now disfellowshipped, i'll just pretend to be interested and maybe accept a bible study..lol.

Not sure this is something I would do. I think Jehovah`s Witnesses are the same as McDonalds, they are the same wherever you go. I wouldn`t expect too much, and I worry you may be spoiling what would be a fresh start in a new area.

But what you do is your choice, I hope that the experience is interesting, and you don`t get hurt (or hurt anyone else) in the process.

Why did my old friend do this to our friendship? Please help me understand.

i am new here because i want to ask a question that my friend couldn't make me understand why.

my friend of over 16 yrs lives several states and 1,000 miles away from me.

KH would be Kingdom Hall.

This behaviour is typical of a JW, especially one who is preparing to get baptized, as he will be going through a lot of hoops to prove himself "worthy" to be a Jehovah`s Witness.

To the rest of the world, and never forget that includes 6 BILLION that aren`t Witnesses, you will be viewed as a kind, caring person, that I`m sure you are.

Please bear in mind that it`s not you showing an unloving attitude.

Rather, like a drug addict or an alcoholic, your friends behaviour has been changed by joining what many of us believe to be a dangerous and at the very least anti-social , so called religion.

so why dont they cut to the chase at the door???

as in..."hi, my name is soa fraid and i hope you will accept my offer for a free home bible study.

the reason you should accept this free offer is that our leaders, the men who have compiled the material for this study receive direct communication from god, and he speaks to no other religion on earth.

they then write down what god has told them to, and publish it in a zillion languages so that we can teach people what god really meant in his new world translation of the holy scriptures...you may refer to it as the bible.

I always used to open with "Good morning we are a couple of Jehovah`s Witnnesses,..... bla blah blah", if anyone did want to talk, the first thing they usually said was "I`m glad you`re not those Moonies", that was in the `80s, I don`t know how things work nowadays as I stopped talking to them (and visa versa) 20 odd years ago.

Being a DA/Df`d has it`s advantages.

guess i should go get a boat now..

I always wanted (and still do) a Mk10 Jaguar, unfortunately, the one time I did have the chance to buy one, I was involved in a strike at work, and didn`t have the 800quid asking price.

How do you cope with Type II diabetes?

question for forum members who have type ii diabetes:.

how do you cope with this disease?

do you have side effects from the medication?

I have recently been diagnosed with this, I take Metformin 500mg twice a day. But as for any symptoms, none whatsoever that I`ve noticed.

Infact it was only diagnosed in a blood test looking for something else, if it wasn`t for the blood test I wouldn`t have presented myself to my GP thinking I had Diabetes at all.

I`ve just been given the standard "take care in what you eat, exercise, cut down on the alcohol etc." but I haven`t been told I can`t eat/drink anything specific.

Are Placebos Getting Stronger?

i think that this subject needs much more research as it could lead to huge breakthroughs in our understanding of how things work.

if the placebo effect gets stronger, then medical development may simply halt as the objective basis of any new pill evaporates into statistical noise.. i believe that psychic phenomena is real and that the placebo effect may be part of it.

A placebo cannot get either stronger or weaker, as it is in reality not effective in any conventional way. But hey, if it works for you then keep taking the (sugar) pills.

As You've Gotten Older Have You Changed Your Thoughts On Marriage?

many witnesses got married at a young age (because they felt they had to).

you can't sin, right?.

some people get married and for years, are very happy.

Yes, I was married once, had a daughter (now 16) ,divorced, and as a result ended up bankrupt. I resolved never to get married again, and I haven`t.
