What's happening in 2014?? I was at the assembly yesterday, and didn't have the new song book. I spent a fortune last year getting the old one bound together with a bible...now it's useless. Any songs we sang were changed, and the tone of the talks was basically do or die. We were sickened. It was all about the FDS and Jesus was mentioned TWICE only all afternoon. Makes me sick. Christian my butt...

Song Book changes - the 'real' reason behind them - EYE OPENING
by EndofMysteries init's very interesting comparing things that are removed.
for one, new world order and new world, new order, all being eliminated from everything.
just research nwo, "new world order", etc, to see.

Actually Wobble...A north or central Dubliner would say Jayzus....an Irish person would bless themselves frantically and use various religious expletives.

Assembly/Convention Rules
by IMHO injust been reading the resurrected topic "remember when assemblies were fun".. bought back some good memories particularly regarding the 'holiday camps'.. i was going to add this but decided it warranted it's own topic.. the 'good times' have been replaced by incessant rules.
here is a selection from the last circuit assembly i attended.
please feel free to add to the list.. .

Gee...we don't have many rules like that here in Ireland... but we're lax in most things...my 2 daughters laughed when at the kh last summer the bros put on the noticeboard photos of acceptable lengths for skirts etc for the meetings and bethel visits. I thought it was ridiculous, but then , all the sisters said it was too much. I haven't been back since but I'm going to the assembly tomorrow afternoon to listen with 'new' ears. Should be interesting. so long as the bros don't harass me to re-attend the hall!

FS I agree with you totally.. after 15 years baptized and SURE about my future and place in it, I am left with a huge void, and not being sure of anything anymore. I hate having been lied to but do miss the certainty of it all. I feel like I've been pushed out of a plane without a parachute...

Kids TV programmes (England and Ireland only sorry) that were on in the 70's and early 80's
by jdhf ini am trying to remember a kids programme that was on while i was a wee thing during the 70's... now i was only born in '68, so i guess it would be late 70's early 80's.
i remember bears, and animation, but i don't think cartoon.
anyway, please can anyone list their favourite british kids programmes during these times and hopefully i will get an epiphany!

I learned to read with Dick and Jane and Sally. How about you?
by Fatfreek ini can hardly believe the prices they're getting for pristine copies of those books they handed out to those of us with scalps populated with lice, hands and fingers encrusted with bits of jelly and dried mud.
they're getting between $100 and $200 per copy.. thanks to google images, i couldn't resist taking another peek between some of those charming colored pages as a reminder to what we were actually exposed to in trying to make us literate.. most of these look contemporary to when i went to school -- the 1940's.
one of them may go back into the 1930's.

I remember saying to my 2 girls on more than one occasion that people in the world will let you down but the brothers and sisters and the society won't. I've been eating my words ever since...F.S., yes we all crap on each other now and again, and it's hard to wipe off, but there ARE decent people, good people on this earth that will at least try to find a toilet instead!
