Internet Dating......has anybody tried it?

well seeing as my social skills are severly limited or it's just really really hard to meet women i thought i'd get everybody's opinion on "netdating".

i think it's worth a shot, i think it gives you an opportunity to meet people that you'd never meet in the real world, well it's 2 am and i'm bored, i guess i'd better hit the sack now

Blondie brings up some good points... and I have decided that the best ways to meet gals are

1) Through Church

2) Through work

3) Through friends

4) Socializing

Well... I personally don't do the 'church' thing anymore *shudder*

I work at home - not too many opportunities to meet gals there...

I don't have many friends - and those that I have - don't have any elegible friends date-worthy...

Socializing... I work a lot. Not much opportunity to meet anyone that way.

Anyway... on to the question at hand. Internet dating.

I have tried it in the past - many many times. Tried the 'match.com', americansingles, yahoo personals, etc. Not much success. Most of the gals there - well... not my cup of tea. Some were only interested in 'getting out' - and away from the kids. Others were interested in a weekend date. One wouldn't give her real name... and I only had a 'Tigger' type of nicname to use. (Difficult to have flowers delivered to her work when you don't have a real name. Her loss.)

I had all but given up on using the internet method for meeting someone - but then sent one gal a note. She replied. I was busy... it was on a Sunday when I was in the middle of getting laundry done - and so told her so. I really didn't expect her to reply... but she did!

We typed back and forth a couple more times... and I left her my phone number. She called - and I wasn't home. I called her back, and we talked.

She asked me where I lived. I gave a general description of where I live, and she replied 'That's where I live.' I figured that she lived near me... but not that near.

Turns out - she lives in the same trailer park - only a few trailers away from me. We met - I took her out - and we are now very much in love with each other. It has only been about 2 months now, but I look forward to seeing her each and every day. Being with her... touching her... talking to her... etc.

I guess the answer to your question is... Yes. Internet dating works. But, you'll need to kiss a lot of frogs before you get your Prince - or Princess.

How do you deal with a long distance relationship?

my husband is off working hail in amarillo, texas right now and has been gone so much of this year.

when the kids were smaller , we all went , which was great fun, seeing new places.. circumstances are now that i can't leave home , i have to stay home with the kids so that they have a somewhat normal life now that we are borg free.. we have unlimited talk time on our cell phones and that is what keeps us close.

today i cried as i put a few of his clothes he still has here, most of his clothes are with him, and it was so painful seeing the drawers so empty.

I'd say sending packages of things to each other... things to cheer each other up... dunno what... perhaps souveniers, or other things...

That makes the day go by a tad better - looking forward to the postman dropping off a box in the mail.

Or - perhaps cards sent in the mail... or short letters. (Perhaps even sending a sexy photo... *wide grin*)

I know that cell phones may seem like they have put these things out of style, but I personally feel like the physical-ness of receiving - or giving - something via the mail is still desireable.

Say 'Hey' to Denny - next time you talk to him, for me. Ok? Tell him I finally got me a girl-friend. She is the most beautiful girl I have ever known. I didn't even have to use any of those 'pick-up' lines he told me, either.

What if either Adam or Eve had remained perfect?

i've never heard this addressed before.

according to the wts, joe hoba didn't destroy adam and eve when they sinned, because that would have only proven his power...that he could destroy that which he created.

he allowed them to stay alive and multiply so that he could prove the rightness of his rule and to answer satan's criticism.

Well, this is an interesting conundrum.

Let's expand on this a tad further... using the 'jw-logic'...

We need to assume that Eve is the 'sinner', and Adam remains 'faithful'. *rolls eyes*

In the Genesis account - they were both tossed out of the 'garden' - part of the reason was so that they could not get access to the 'tree of life'.

So... if Adam remained faithful... would only Eve be tossed out? How would Adam and Eve get together to procreate? Conjugal (sp?) visits?

To toss both out - would mean that Adam was also being 'punished' - as he would not be allowed to stay in 'paradise'.

If Adam were allowed to remain in 'paradise', it would also mean that he would still have 'access' to the 'tree of life'...

He could sneak fruit to Eve - to get her back in - so to speak.

Let's face it. It's just a fairy tale.

I have met several folks from this forum - and another one that used to be 'on the air'.

Let's see... about 15 to 25 - or so, all total. About 5 to 7 of these were in person, and the rest were at an 'Aposta-mess'.

I don't think I would be interested in going to another Aposta- mess - as a result of that. Not my thing. Others like meeting like that, but it was too much like a 'circuit assembly' for my liking. What with folks talking JW-issues they had and all... some even brought out old WT-pubs to discuss JW doctrines. *shudder*

I like to believe (right or wrong) that I've progressed beyond that - and don't have the need - to discuss old JW doctrines anymore.

The folks that I have met in person - have been really really nice folks.

went to assembly past weekend lol

went to an assembly this past saturday.

reason why i went cause my mother in law was baptized so the rest of us non believers went for moral support.

it was in the "famous stanley theater" in nj that i heard so much about growing up, my mother was so happy even thou i went, watched baptizm, ate with my inlaws, and was out like a bolt of lightning lol.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that.

Brings back memories of when my daughter got baptized. I had not been to any meetings in about 15 years. I think she was about 13 or 14 at the time... maybe 15. Anyway, she wanted me to be there to see her get dipped.

I said I would be. I always try to keep my word.

I had no interest in any of the sessions. So, I got the time that the 'talk' was to be given, added a few minutes to that, and arrived at the site. It was held in an old auditorium that I knew well... from previous years. So, I parked, and walked in a side door. Went right in to the auditorium, and they were just about wrapping it all up - with the questions bit.

I just stood in the back - trying to be as inconspicuous as possible.

They then dismissed for the folks that were going to be dipped... etc. I slipped out, and made my way downstairs to where they had the pool. I got in there - and was able to keep my promise - and see her baptized... then slipped away to outside - and safety.

I even remember a few years later my mom whining about me not getting to see my own daughter getting baptized. I corrected her, and told her I was there - saw it... but didn't see her there. She mumbled something and shut up.

*shudder*

I don't ever want to go back inside one of those places... but they don't bother me all that much anymore.

"I prayed for you"

if you aren't a "believer", does it bother you when someone says "i'll pray for you" or "i prayed for you"?.

one of my colleagues is an incredibly kind and sweet person, and i know she says it because she believes she's doing something good on my behalf.

i always say "thank you for thinking of me", because i know that's the spirit she's intending to convey and that she cares about the situation i'm in vis-a-vis my jw relatives, but she knows i no longer believe in god (at least not in the sense that she does) - i wonder does she think that a few prayers are going to change my mind?

The only thing worse (if that is possible) than the "I prayed for you" scenario, is the one where... upon hearing of some sort of success you have, the other person triumphantly declares, "Well, I have been praying for you." as if to let you know that your successes are directly related to some sort of prayer that they have made - rather than anything that you have been doing.

This scenario is a no-win scenario. If you say "Well, I don't think your prayers have had anything to do with my success.", they may become offended - and even proclaim that their prayers are the directly related to many successful events that have happened in the past - all of which are unproveable.

If you graciously say, "Thank you." they go away with the delusion that they have some sort of 'power' to help people... which may - or may not - be true.

*shrug*

Kinda negates the 'free will' thing that they preach from the bible.

Hmmm... how to reply - without ticking off the 'masses'... *muses to self*

Well, here goes.

I am not really a religious person... but still feel that I am spiritual. (Go figure THAT one out. *wide grin*)

First for the ones that say, "xxx needs our help, we need to pray for them." or "Please pray for me."

I usually tell them, "You (or they) are in my thoughts." Which is true.

Second - I think that this 'prayer' thing... while you may or may not believe in a 'god' - can be powerful. Basically, I feel that it has to do with the 'power of the mind'.

It has very little to do with a diety - or god. Other than the fact that so many people believe in one. (I hope THAT makes a tad bit of sense.)

Anyway... I'm rambling.

What I would be wary of - are the 'do gooders' who 'pray' for others. The question should be more of... "Oh. WHAT did you pray for - for me?"

The content.

For example... if one is having difficult times with a marriage... are they praying for the couple to get back together? Or are they just praying for the issue to be resolved - whatever course it takes.

Does that make sense?

If they actually 'pray' for a specific action - I.E. the couple making up and getting back together... then perhaps that is not the best resolution to the situation, and - if successful, could cause more problems in the long run.

If they 'pray' that the couple finds a solution to their problems - so that they can get on with their lives - then that may be the better thing to ask for.

Again - I am rambling.

I don't believe in 'prayer' - as the religious community does... but I believe in 'thoughts' - and the power of 'thoughts'.

So - to wrap this up... perhaps the comeback question should be... "Just what did you pray for - for me? Because I need to know what sorts of issues I may need to un-due in the next few weeks or months."

Cyber Relationships / Cyber Sex

was wondering what everybodies ideas were on cyber relationships and cyber sex.. are they safe, when is the right time to meet face to face and do they work.. have been having a close friendship with another poster on this board for a while, and was looking for input.

if he wishes to identify himself that's fine with me.. i know that a few marriages have occured from people meeting on this baord and was seeking their input too..

Cyber relationships are one thing... and even meeting in person.

You mentioned though that you are both from differing countries. That's where red flags went off, for me.

I see that you are in Australia. If... for example... the person you are cybering with, is in the States (U.S.A.), and you both are interested in each other, you will have a mountain to climb to be together Two mountains - if children are involved.

If you are thinking of coming to the states to be with him, you will need to get a special permission. If he is thinking of moving there - he will need a special 'skillset' that is in demand there - and he cannot be too old - to be desireable to Australia.

Basically, you will need to get married to this person.

There are all sorts of stories about folks who have done this - and succeeded... and also ones that have failed. (Long Distance Relationships are difficult.)

When kids are involved... it gets even worse. Australia will not let you take them out of the country - unless the other person - your ex - signs all sorts of papers. It can get messy at this point.

Lehaa, there are forums for Aussies - with this very situation - who post regularly - and you might do well to sign up with one or two of them. I used to belong to one of them... but that was so long ago... I do not even know how to point you to get you there.

I apologize if I sound so negative. I really wish you well... but I have been down that road - and learned a lot from that experience.

Good Luck... and I hope you don't put too many plans together before you investigate your options available to you.
