Welcome to the board Andy!
god or no god, why is there something rather than nothing?
why do elements have properties?
why does consciousness exist?
I often wonder why my belly button lint is always blue, even if I am wearing tan or black pants. It haunts me.
i always loved his poetry and music.
"suzanne" and "the butcher" were a real part of my early ex-dub days.. he's now well into his 60's and i've just seen a progamme about him on the biography channel.
he seems at peace with himself now and smiles freely when questioned about his old age.. i enjoyed this poem of his that he wrote quite recently:.
Who By Fire
New Skin For The Old Ceremony -- 1974
I love Leonard Cohen. I have to say I wasn't turned on to him until Shrek...(I know a Rufus Wainwright cover--but I am young pup, I'd never heard of him until then).
Since then I have become a huge fan. He rocks.
just got word: i'm back in the saddle at ms!
woo hoo!
*moonwalks around his living room*.

*peaks through her fingers*
Congrats SNG! Best of luck to you, not that you'll need it!
okay...the fluff is running rampant on jwd this weekend, so i'm just jumpin' in with my .02...... i hate the way fashion designers dictate what we're gonna be wearing for the next year or two or three (if they can't come up with something new and innovative or retro to titillate the egos).
take for instance those needle-nosed shoes they're pandering to the public lately.....besides being extremely uncomfortable and likely to trip the wearer up with the extra length required to extend the toes of the shoes to a needle point, has anyone seen what they do to ppl's feet years later???
just visit your local nursing home and take a gander at all the hammer toes, bunions and crossed toes of old peeps that were slaves to similar fashions decades ago!
when I cross my arms in front so my breasts don't suddenly go "charismatic" on me in public
*laughs so hard she falls on the floor*
OH MY GOD!
I have boobies that filled with holy spirit!! And here I thought it was fat.
Oh honey I can totally relate to this front clasping, horror of back clasping bras nonesense. Once the girls broke out of a front clasping prision, and I mean BROKE, I had to free-boob it the rest of the night, my bra ended up in the trash at the bar...lol!
However, Miss Eyegirl turned me on to the BEST BRA IN THE WORLD!
I now have clevage up to my chin, and oh so comfy! I can use them as a desk if I want, or a head rest for quick naps. IT ROCKS!
as some of you know, when cj and i were married, i adopted her daughter, and raised her as my own.
i love her so much, i never referred to her as step-daughter, and never will.
she calls me dad, even though her biological father, somehow found his way out out of the woodwork, when she turned 18.
I think it's more of a respect thing.
If I were your daughter and in this situation, I would totally respect you asking me to have my bf sleep in a different room.
It is your house, and I think it is just respectful for them to behave how you see fit while under your roof. It's just a visit, I am pretty sure they can handle sleeping apart.
Call me a prude, it is old fashioned, and I can't even really explain why I feel this way on this (my old JW up-bringing coming back to haunt me?), but just because your kids are aware of sexuality doesn't mean it has to be flaunted in front of them, ya know?
I dunno...
*going back to her corner*
ok so i'm talking to my kid (4) today about martin luther king and the importance of the things that he believed in.
he is in preschool and they also talked about mlk in school apparently which i think is great.
i asked him what he learned about mlk and he said he that he was a 'special man because he cared about people and he said it didnt matter what they looked like'.
Umm...how do we know the lesson was ABOUT his being shot?
I mean, it did happen.
I would offer that just because the death was the part your son fixated on, doesn't mean it was the focus of the lesson. It is shocking, and it is perhaps what stuck in his mind the most.
What happens when the students ask, "What happened to MLK?" which they are going to ask...was the teacher supposed to say, "Go home and ask your mommy and daddy?"
Often things happen in the classroom in a split second, Teachers have to react, they don't usually have time to think about how every parent is going to react to the quick decision they have to make.
I would offer that if it upset you so much you go in and talk to your teacher to find out what really happened and what the intent of the lesson was. I bet you even money it wasn't supposed to be a discussion about how he died.
If somehow it was, at least the teacher has a chance to realize your concerns and think about it the next time the issue is brought up.
this was the letter i sent to the judicial committee of my congregation ten years ago today:.
"due to changes in my life that are in conflict with the teachings of jehovah's witnesses, i no longer want to be known as one of jehovah's witnesses.
that is all i am willing to say on the matter, so there is no need for the committee to visit me.".
(Swan-I was just thinking about you, haven't seen you post in a while!)
And we're so glad to have ya out!
i saw the photodrama of creation in bethel in color.
i didnt care for it.

Drop Dead Gorgeous [a much underated comedy. Maybe only funny if you live in the midwest USA. Plus, it's so 'Politically Incorrect' and pokes fun at everything taboo in today's society.]
OH MAN! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! It's sort of some dark humor, it's an aquired taste, and yeah I think it does have a lot to do with living in the Midwest. (Cripes I think I went to Mount Rose High School). Will Sasso ROCKS, and frankly I think it's my favorite Britney Murphy role.
it was funny, just now i was thinking about that term witnesses always use, "spiritual paradise.
" and i thought, things are more paradisaic for me now than they ever have been.
and for an instant, i thought back to how i imagined paradise would be, meeting people from all over the world, creating real friendships based on respect and honesty, and i realized, that's exactly what we have here in the real world!.
SNG-
You're the coolest guy I know
