The Lord Of The Rings and other fairy-tales
by XPeterX indamn,many jws claim that lord of the rings is "demonic" "satanic" "promotes spiritualism" and that fairies,goblins,trolls and other fantasy creatures are satan's minions and that we should not read/watch etc anything like that.however,elves and the rest are not real and the stories are fictional.can't a jw read a sci-fi or fantasy book?pffff.

by lepermessiah insince we have a lot of canadian friends on this board, i have to ask - who are your favorite canadian bands?.
mine is rush.
they have been one of my favorite bands ever since i can remember.. they totally rule........the music and lyrics are all top notch.. the other one is the tea party - jeff martin is a genius.

by minimus ini'm not but i know some jws that have drifted but when things like 9/11 catastrophes occur, they're right back at the kingdom hall.. do you ever worry that the great tribulation might occur and you will die?.

Music preferences and books
by XPeterX ini have recenly had a conversation with some elders and they told me that i shouldn't listen to music that's heavy,meaning distorder guitar riffs,breakdowns brutal vocals even if the lyrics are positive.secondly they say that we shouldn't read books that mention anything related to "spiritualism" but all of the jws study odyssey,history,ancient greek language at school and all of these subjects refer to the pantheon,heathen stuff etc.my question is:how to can someone abstain from reading these things if he is taught them at school while the elders are informed about it?how music can harm anyone if the lyrics are ok even if the music is fast or heavy or both?.

Tattoos in Hawai'i
by 5thGeneration inthe thread on hawaii today made me think of a question i've always had.. i've spent a lot of time in hawaii and i've always wondered how the cong deals with kids and tattoos.
it's such a part of their culture i just don't see how they can frown on it that much.. anyone know?.

Mr. Flipper Talks with Bethel Legal Service Desk Rep About JW Child Abuse
by flipper inwell - i had been wanting to do this for a long time , to question a legal department representative at bethel about the child abuse settlements and jw child abuse, since last year when the news came out about it.
especially since my dad , an elder for years was never aware of it and has on his own taken steps to see that families with children are informed if a former pedophile is in their congregation.
i was curious as to what the current views and policies in place are .

2007- Witness Meetings= Why can't women wear pants/trousers??
by Witness 007 inwhen my mum went to her first meeting she was dressed to perfection, she wore nice ladies dress trouser/pants.
the witness stuying with her told her it was "not apropriate" to wear this to the meeting...in 2006 i was in a congregation where a sister would put a skirt on over her pants she wore to work.
it looked weird, but the pants ban still is in force 2007.
