Why are the Jehovah's Witnesses not allowed to carry a weapon (for protection) during field service?
by I_love_Jeff inif jesus allowed peter to carry a sword for protection, why are the jehovah's witnesses against carry a weapon during their "fun" door-to-door adventuring?
it seems jesus did not mind that peter carried a sword if we read luke 22:36-38. is it another case of picking and choosing what works for their man-made doctrine?.
is defending oneself a violent act, according to the jehovah's witnesses?

delusional and mentally unstable jws banging on peoples doors at nine am ona saturday to argue about religion. yaaaa...weapons is all that scenario needs. even in texas a jw woulld be guilty of murder and or aggregavted assault for using a weaponin that circumstance. our lawsa are very clear that self defense requires no provokation. most juries would see the act of door to door witnessing as provocation.

its not my job to calm someone down. it is my job to defend my life, property and loved ones or innocent members of my community from the predators.

I assume we are talking about a random person, like a drunk, hobo, or insane person on the street. Cagefighter has a 3 step rule. If I am futher than 3 steps from avoiding the situation (i.e. my car, home, or whatever establishment I am heading into, then once it is clear I am being addressed, accosted, or assualted by the aggressor: I square my shoulders, position my feet in a fighting stance, keep my hands low and pocket keys or drop any bags that might encumber me. I look my opponent straight in the eyes and let out a deep and growling "WHAT?". That usually diffuses the situation. If they continue to approach I verbally deny their request and raise my hands into fighting posture. If they enter the circle of doom (about 3 feet around me at all times, then we start playing UFC in the street.
Happy Holidays,

Is it ethical to confess extramarital sex to your spouse
by Most Noble indurex's global sex survey has found that 44% of adults worldwide have had one-night extramarital sex and 22% have had an affair.according to a 2004 united states survey, 16% of married partners have had extramarital sex, nearly twice as many men as women, while an additional 30% have fantasized about extramarital sex.
there were also studies that have shown rates of extramarital sex as low as 2.5%.as many authors conclude, these kinds of estimates are probably understated because extramarital sex is commonly disapproved.. .
what do you think is it ethical to confess an extramarital affair?.

i dont think it is so black and white. for me it would depend on my partners expectations and my intentions. if my partner has little need or expectation for fidelity and i have no intention to quit cheating then gtelling her would be pretty disrespectful and rubbing it in her face.

Let's take a step back Unstoppable... What does the WT tell us or your wife about someone that leaves or has doubts? That they are spiritually weak...where does spiritual weakness lead...sin!
Once your wife realizes this is not the beginning of the end of your relationship with her and that you are not going to change into someone else, she will be better.
She will also respect you for standing by your conscience and not being a pawn. Who knows, it might make it easier for her to deal with her own doubts as well.
Hang in there!

Why did the Early Church Accept the Four NT Gospels and Reject the Gnostic Gospels?
by Christ Alone inthis has been a subject that has been explored by many secular scholars today.
bart ehrman is one of them.
the divinci code had this to say about why the gospels were chosen:.

The Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John Gospels were easiest to massage into a "horus-like sun god" myth. Especially John. The other gospels were rounded up in the early Roman church and burned. It was very obvious even in the second century that this weird branch of Judiasm was not going anywhere and was spreading like a virus. 3/4 of the population was slave and this was offering the people a God that valued them as individualis and said everyone counts and can be empowered. This was very scary to the Romans. They had to find a way to elevate Jesus and co-op him into a more aloof deity.
Jesus was just a blank canvas to a lot of people. Ask the Jews who died in the revolt in Jerusalem in 70 CE? Many were waiting on him to return like the calvary.

Did Jesus ever claim he had to die for our sins?
by Cagefighter inso for those that have been keeping up: i have recently become fascinated with the lost gospels as well as the history of the four cannon gospels (matthew, mark, luke, and john) and as some may say the "historical jesus".. i am fascinated by the variations in who jesus was and what he did according to different traditions and texts.
one thing that provoked me the other day is that the coptics/gnostics do not believe jesus "died for our sins".
which explains why an i have never been accosted infront of my favorite drinking hole my a glassy eyed 20 year old with a pamphlet in their hand asking if i am "saved".. so this got me thinking..... i don't recall jesus ever claiming to have to die for our sins in matthew, mark, luke or john either?

Christ Alone, I appreciate your perspective but I have moved on to the more historical sense of these character's in early Christianity.
Designs- The most digestable reason for this phenomenon was that at this point 3/4 of the Roman empire were slaves. While they was a multide of deities and belief systems available and allowable to any Roman citizen or slave, they all had one thing in common. God or Gods were elitist types like Caesar. Jesus comes across as humble, down, to earth and putting value on individuals regardless of their position. Add the ease of travel and transmission of information that the Roman Empire provide and BINGO!
Don't get me wrong. Christ is a major philosophical movement that we should credit with the basis of our own society. This was the catalyst that would lead to the kind of belief in individualism that would later spawn democracry and self-determination in my opinon.
There is also a lot of great stuff about how to not be a jerk in there too, the key in my mind is to remember a lot of the details are opinion, editorial, and embellishment. Even if I agree or disagree I have to remember the source.
