Can the Bible be proved wrong?

For one thing, could anyone from the medical profession say whether or not it is possible for a human being to live for over 900 years? If so, why has there never been any evidence found of ancestors who lived for hundreds of years?

Also, at the time of the flood the entire vegetation of the world was completely covered in salt water for months. The roots would have all rotted and there would be nothing left. How did all the plants grow back? How did all the thousands of species of insects survive on the ark? There was only limited space and surely they would have munched their way through all the fresh vegetation taken on board the ark in no time!

Except for the termites who would have had an adequate supply of food

We contacted the local kingdom hall of Jehovah's Witnesses for comment but received no response.

I really do hope they persue this right to the top and don't give up until they get an answer, as I would be most interested to hear how they explain why, throughout the whole of the last century up until today, they have always instilled a need for their young ones to devote their youthful energies into peddling WT literature from door to door rather than waste time getting themselves properly educated with decent careers.

growing up as a jw, you see the world differently than most everyone else.

you see the world as something that is going to end very soon.

all that we know will be gone by the time we're adults.. when we were young, we were living in the last days and were expecting armageddon before we grew old.

How sad to see people in their twilight years still expecting some miraculous event to transform them back to what they can never be again...

I agree, it is really sad. I knew a JW who had devoted the best part of her life to the WTS and it hit her like a ton of bricks when one day she woke up in the 1980s to realise she was now an elderly widowed lady, and she was still waiting for armageddon to come. She looked me straight in the face one day and her exact words were "if armageddon does not come soon, it is going to be the biggest con of the century!"

Cognitive dissonance set in and she carried on attending meetings but a bitterness had come over her that she could not hide. The century passed and she lived long enough to see 9 years of another century. She died still waiting.

If you were a high school student and thinking about college in 1969, then you're about 60 years old.

Yup, that's me - 60 this year. Do I feel angry and bitter about it? You bet I do

That magazine article, short though it may have been, had a huge effect on my parents, along with other articles at the time advising parents that as long as their teenage kids had two legs to walk about on we had absolutely no excuse whatsoever not to pioneer with any old part time job to help pay for our keep.

Thus, at an age when we had the world at our feet and when we should have been making full use of our individual skills and talents in order to follow our career dreams, the boys usually became window washers and the girls did menial cleaning jobs while we trudged round the streets knocking doors and peddling WT literature.

By the time those of us who were concious enough to think for ourselves realised we had been lied to, it was far too late for many of us to do anything about it since by that time we were married with homes and children to care for.

By the way, that fateful magazine article is part of a bound volume still sitting on my mother's shelf to this day.

How to identify a JW from a distance

much has apparently been said in recent years about how a "good" jw should be dressed and groomed, so as to be easily identified - even from a distance.. yesterday, while driving through town, i did see two people the distance:.

- and certainly, by the way they were dressed, my suspicions were aroused.. - however, what confirmed their identity was not their dress and grooming.

rather, as i drove up closer, i noticed both of them doing the "pioneer shuffle" up somebody's driveway:.

I had that pioneer slow shuffle walk off to a fine art, yet whenever I was out shopping or doing something else other than fs, people found it hard to keep up with me and kept asking me to slow down

i haven't been anywhere near a jw meeting or convention in at least 8 or 9 years.

but this afternoon, i'm doing some weed trimming and suddenly realized i had this lyric playing in my head...over and over.... .

One of the first Kingdom melodies I ever heard was "Be Like Jeremiah", which still comes into my head from time to time. It made me laugh because I had a tortoise called Jeremy and used to imagine being like him, sticking my head inside my shell and ignoring people. I don't know for how long this insanity by the GB will go on, but they have lost control complete. They don't know the number of the anointed ones, plus they are claiming that this a personal issue between Jesus and the annointed persons, end on the other hand they are telling us that those persons might be crazy!! !

In my opinion, feeling you of of the anointed class is equivalent to becoming a born again Christian in other churches. I really feel that the WT's constant brain washing and pushing the r&f to do more, be more zealous, show more love for Jehovah etc etc, has created this out of control situation with members genuinely feeling they must be of the anointed class due to the intense emotions they are experiencing. It is a wonder the number is not actually much higher than it is!!

To accuse them of being mentally unstable is the same as a church leader constantly whipping his congregation up into a frenzy of devotion then when they claim to feel 'born again', accusing them of being mentally unstable and over-reacting.

I can remember back in the 60s there were several members of the congregation I attended (one just a teenager) who started partaking of the emblems and it caused an outcry. A brother was sent from HQ to come and sort it out and left with a flea in his ear as he was told by the ones in question that he had no business interfering. Nothing more was ever said on the matter, and they are still partakers to this day as far as I know. Quite amazing !!

I still get certain songs popping into my head at odd moments even though I haven't been to a meeting in over 20 years. I actually don't mind too much because it's great to know that I have successfully faded away and don't have to go and sing them for real any more.

If it bothers you, just play a few catchy CDs and your brain will get the message and put the cult song back on its dusty shelf in the recesses of your memory until the next time it decides to get it out for a quick play

P.S. I am sooooo glad I faded long before I had to endure listening to any of this new stuff, seemingly devoid of any possible influence from real composers with actual training and musical ability. Who are actually writing these songs? As the WTS frowns on further education, I can't imagine anybody in a high position in WT land having been allowed to study music past a basic High School standard. It all sounds dire
