I love Wild Turkey and Markers Mark, especially when they are not polluted with coke. Not even ice. But then, I like Tequila and most rums straight. I guess I'm somewhat of a mainliner.

I don't know what to do for fun yet either, other than the above mentioned activities. (I noticed in Kentucky you enjoyed the straight whiskey too, Yeh Gentleman Jack Daniels) We both need to grow here. Hope someone on this thread comes up with some ideas.

one of my closest friends in all the world is someone i'll call m. m is in her mid-thirties and was raised a jw from infancy but is one no longer.
her parents are still very jw... her dad is a very high profile, respected elder in a large american city.
they are both cool people... i've sat and had long talks with both of them about subjects having nothing to do with 'the truth.

Here in the US I have never heard of your specific story but have heard many similar about the Catholic church in general. It sounds typical of any movement which tries to portray itself as the only group with the truth that will change the world.
Some are reluctant to apply the cult label to the Watchtower society but Eric Hoffer's book True Believer explains it all without using the four letter word "cult".

Though it hurts it is good to remember what Englishman said about your daughter's motive. I suspect he is right. While misguided she thinks she is doing what is right by God and best for you and your wife. Just shows the depth of mind control a cult can have, to think hurting the people we love is best for them.
I'm sure you have considered all the ramifications of your decision to attend. You have always displayed good sense on this board and have helped others to look at things reasonably so surely your decision to attend will have the best long range effect on all those you love. With that confidence, brace yourself for a few uncomfortable moments but remain determined to enjoy this special occasion and the memory of it for years to come.

ajwrb was approached early on about working together on these issues.
we took a hard look and opted out for ethical and pragmatic reasons.
though the issues share a common thread (child abuse), they have to be approached in different ways.
