  i heard about the scientific basis of this previously.

  it is believed that many north europeans carry a mutation they got from their ancestors who survived the black death/bubonic plague - that also makes resistant to hiv infection.

  my wife 'rowan' was born and raised a jw, her father being an elder -a very gentle loving person, but an elder.. some years ago, she was betrayed by a close friend, subjected to a jc and was disfellowshiped & shunned.

  the proceeding was completely void of mercy and love, it was much like a violation, a rape.

  finding herself df'd was of course terrifying, but the most disapointing outcome was that her father sided with the elders.. eventually she discovered through select books, articles and this board about the fear-driven mind control ways of her religion.

  I started this thread 2 years ago and tonight I felt compelled to post an update. For those who don't know, I have never been a JW, I married an extremely intelligent DF'd girl and we have been nursing each other's wounds and helping each other heal from stuff from the past.

  Rowan was released from the hospital after her last suicide attempt and we proceeded with our academic plans. I quit my job and we moved the camp far, far away. She has been working extremely hard at school and will graduate next year. In fact, she is doing so well, she already secured a job with unbelievable benefit$. She continues to have counseling every now and then and has made a lot of progress. Myself also am having treatment (Chinese medicine: acupuncture, herbal and counseling) and have grown more gentle and patient. I steped away from science and started a master degree in acupuncture and i will be graduating at about the same time she will. She has been so supportive of my schooling I cannot believe! Although it is peanuts compared to her field of study.

  Since we left no forwarding address, no dub knows in which USA state we live now and her fade has been flawless. Her lovely parents, who I truly love, are still in the cult but they saw the nearly fatal damage it caused her, so they backed off trying to blackmail her back into the meetings. When they come visit is all love and joy. The move out of state was quite good for us. I got rid of the TV and now i spend more time with her .... and with with our new baby daughter! Yes, we became parents of a lovely angel baby. She is 9 months old now and will be raised on the mysteries of Mother Nature, Celtic culture and science. No bible thumpin' for her.

  Any way, as i watch our baby sleep tonight and read the bulletin in bed, I thought how far Rowan and I have gone, and how bright and rich our lives are now, and how fuller they will get. I know she is just one little breakthough away from absolute spiritual and mental freedom...just one more healing thought, one more decision to let go, and the pain will subside, the anger will be gone. We often say to each other: "Upset is optional." It sounds funny, but when we embody it, we truylly use it, we discovered that it is! And it does make life so much larger to live in. The support we got back then from this board was overwealming and was lovingly received. So I wanted to touch base and let you know that you were right: life is getting better ever day.

  I had a REALLY big first in my life today!!!.....

  been kinda bummed for a few...and a newer nondub friend said i should go to church with him and his wife today...he called me last night about it....so it was not far and i knew nothing about it...but my friend and i are a lot alike....so showed up...it rocked!!

  !...everybody had jeans on including the preacher with his shirt untucked...he was lively and funny and real....there were some skits that screamed district convention to me but they were way funnier and better acted....and even though i totally tuned out to most of the sermon part and all the jesus stuff.........the band freakin rocked!...the music was incredible!....just great talent....i told my buddy we should go tell the preacher that not only did he get a newbie in the door...but that it was someone who had never been to church in his entire life!!!.

  i went just for social reasons........and there are prob great babe opportunities there....lol.....but it was a good morning and we went to lunch.....it was a great day!!

  Penguins and Polar Bears.

  witnesses believe the earth was created.. we were also taught that there is no such thing as evolution.each was created according to its kind.. we were taught that prior to the flood, there was a canopy over the earth and the whole world was temperate, sub tropical.. if this is so.. why polar bears?

  and why can penguins shut off the valves to their feet, so they don't freeze.

  anyone see the recent cnn special on jonestown?

  it really bothered me, particularly when listening to the survivors talk about the amount of control exerted over them; they were afraid, terrified, couldn't just walk away, family members were snitching on each other, families were split up in the end, tugged out of arms, they were well dressed seemingly happy people who were clapping and cheering until you looked in their eyes.. the similarities with the jws isstaggering.

  hello guys!i am just introducing myself here.

  i have been visiting this site for about a year but never really posted much but i have really learned and enjoyed the topics on this forum, in fact i think this is the best discussion forum i have yet to come across .. a little about my situation is i am a non religious person married to a devout witness, when i met him 4 yrs ago he was out in the "world", never really mentioned his beliefs as we were enjoying life without it.

  the more we dated the more i realized that something wasn't right.

  I am a non-JW married to an ex-JW. Too late for me to tell you "RUN!", so i will say: Don't get pregnant!!!!! There may be few things more painful than losing your babies to a religious cult. I hope you realize the seriousness of this situation by now. You can always walk away, while you are still young-- but his parental rights would never allow your babies to be free from guilt, fear and mental abuse by any truck driver with an 'elder' badge.

  Get informed. Ask questions. Make a plan. Follow it or follow the Watch Tower.

  Iwonder17, you have the responsibility now to not keep quiet. Print handouts and warn your congregation, even if anonymously. Encourage the victim and/or the parents to go to police, THEN, leave it on Jeehover's hands.
