Please Post Reasons For Not Believing The Witnesses Have The "Truth" Anymore
by minimus ini see a few want to believe in the watchtower's view of bible prophecy, scriptural understandings and the view that the "anointed remnant" dispense the "spiritual food at the proper time".. how would you refute those views?.

Social Security benefits for dependant children
by moshe ini went to the social security office and asked for my retirement earnings benefit printout, as i am planning on signing up at age 62 next year.. many people don't know this, but if you have a dependant child (some stipulations apply) under the age of 18 living in your home and you claim them on your tax return, you can get a social security check for them until they turn 18.. how much is it?
it will be 50% of your normal retirement age benefit amount- two or more children will get you more- up to the maximum family amount- which might be less, if you have a spouse drawing off your earnings record.. so, if you know of anyone who fits in this category who isn't getting a check for their child, have them go to the ss office and apply, asap!
i believe, they pay retroactive benefits.

Interesting, thanks for the tip! It won't ever help me unless I have more children much later in life, but you never know! Glad you were able to figure this out.

LeavingWT: Why Never Discuss Doctrine?
by InterestedOne inamong the various helpful pieces of advice i have read here from leavingwt, i have noticed that he often tells people to never discuss doctrine with a jw.
i realize that discussing doctrine with a jw can be very frustrating, but i was wondering if there is a more far-reaching and less-obvious reason for this advice.
like is it related to some peculiar aspect of the jw mind that the average person would not be aware of?.

I don't think it works. As much as I fantasize about being able to come up with something to get my friends and family out of the organization, it probably won't happen. They are too loyal. The only thing IMO to break that loyalty, is for something to be missing, something life changing or tragic to shake things up to make them want to listen and be open minded.

Ha, I saw one today at Target. My cart was full of Christmas wrapping paper and bags. I don't go out of my way to talk to them.

I relax and feel zero guilt on Tuesday, Thursday, Sat and Sunday.
Garden, cook, decorate, hang with friends, entertain, go to sporting events, shop, wine tastings, parties, plan trips.

My Husband's Kids Have Cut Him Off
by headisspinning inwell, my husband's worst fear has happened.
he told his kids, ages 15 and 10 that he was coming to visit them over the holidays.
his ex-wife limits his telephone contact to one call per week, so when he called them last week to arrange the specific days he would see them, his son told him that he got baptized back in september and would no longer be willing to see his father.. this came as a complete shock.

This is awful! I am telling you from personal experience, your husband needs to get legal enforcement and continue to see his children. His son is brainwashed and loves his dad no doubt!
The ex is in contempt by violating the custodal agreement. This is a serious decision she made and will be imposed sanctions if you pursue it. Hang in there, and if you need some info for the courts, please PM me.

Truly tragic. My heart is breaking for their daughter who witnessed the murder of her mother. Both parties were both raised JWs. I don't know their status now, but I think they are still in. Anyone with a mentally unstable or violent person in their lives this should cause shivers down your spine. One of my non-JW family members worked with the victim for many years and she had talked about how difficult her life was being a JW. So sad it was cut short, and like this!! The odd thing is he has stage 4 melanoma and supposedly a brain disorder. Sad, sad, sad.

It is SO depressing when you just can't get through to someone
by ilikecheese ini have been hitting a brick wall trying to pry my boyfriend away from this stuff.
it just makes me cry that it's so obvious to me how wrong it is, and he's not even batting an eyelash.
he knows about all of the scandals, all of the false prophecies, the coverup of sexual predators, that elders tell abuse victims to stay with their spouses, that they dishonestly use sources, and he just doesn't care.

So you are a "worldly" girl? Does he view you with adoration and love, or does he view your relationship as sinful and shameful?
Either ride out the relationship for any joy and fun times left and prime your mind for the moving on stage, or accept that this will be a huge elephant in the room and it will be most likely the relationship won't last. Perhaps start distancing yourself and see what he does.

Yup, my ex husband showed our divorce papers to them and they paid me a visit. The papers had some verbiage about religious differences and the elders tried to get me to verbally admit to either not wanting to be a JW or apostacy.
