I'm sure the WT will be jumping all over this one soon (to deflect some attention away from the GB)...

Spokane Newspaper-Spokesman-Review: Official who assigned abusive priests charged
by AndersonsInfo infebruary 12, 2011 in nation/worldofficial who assigned abusive priests chargedcatholic district attorney goes higher up hierarchical ladderassociated press the spokesman-review photolynn.
philadelphia nearly a decade after the scandal over sexual abuse by priests erupted, philadelphias district attorney has taken a step no prosecutor in the u.s. had taken before: filing criminal charges against a high-ranking roman catholic official for allegedly failing to protect children.i love my church, said district attorney seth williams, himself a catholic, but i detest the criminal behavior of priests who abuse or allow the abuse of children.. williams announced charges thursday against three priests, a parochial school teacher and monsignor william lynn, who as secretary of the clergy was one of the top officials in the philadelphia archdiocese from 1992 to 2004.. the three priests and the teacher were charged with raping boys.
lynn, 60, was accused not of molesting children but of endangering them.

Blind Allegiance to G.B. supported by scripture?
by honorsthesis inhey everyone,.
i have been getting in on going debates with brothers in the congregation about the role of the governing body.
i feel that jehovah would not want us to blindly follow a particular g.b.

Pyramid Scheme makes an excellent point.
Also, it's amazing to me how many brothers are conditioned to defend (and justify) the GB's long list of failed predictions, flip-flops and false teachings with this childish response about Moses' "error" which was nothing more than a momentary lapse of judgement.
Your response to those brothers should have been: "It is highly unlikely that any nation on earth would turn their backs on their leader because they made one or two mistakes here and there. So that analogy is completely incompatible with what continues to occur in the organization and should NOT be used to assist anyone who has lingering doubts. To do so would be irresponsible and misleading." That ought to shut them up or at least make them think a little more...
I'm sure there are better ways to respond... that's just what I would have said.

Demonstrations From the Platform
by DarioKehl ingood evening, all.... still relatively new here so if i'm posting about a topic that's already been run into the ground, i apologize.
but i just wanted to acknowledge the typical "demo" we all see at meetings, assemblies and conventions.
even back when i was a good-goody teen dub, my brother, friends and i would jokingly refer to demos as "5-minute illustrations on how to say 'no.'".
-
Alfred
Dario... this is a word-for-word translation of a demo I heard in a Circuit Assembly about 2 years ago. I remember thinking: Wow! The Society must have figured out that their revenue decline (that year) was due to an increase of brothers buying the latest smart phones (to look more successful than they really were).

Has anyone WROTE A LETTER to the org?
by frigginconfused ini was wondering how many out there have written the society and got a responce.
im thinking of writing but i dont wanna waste my time if they wont take me seriously.
i intend to challenge many different things they say and do.

Alfred
I've actually written 3 times... all related to 587/607/1914/1818... all 3 letters contained strong irrefutable evidence... I've only received one response (to my 1st letter) but it was merely a childish response which completely avoided most of my questions...
Don't waste your time... unless you want to confirm for yourself that they actually dodge legitimate questions and/or evidence to protect their reputation...

What Does The GB Really Believe?
by Murray Smith ina speculative question i suppose .
but i am quite intrigued by this.. .
a witness for 20-odd years .

The GB is aware that they are NOT God's chosen "channel of communication". They also know that JWs are starting to challenge them a lot more than in the past. But they only change doctrines and beliefs whenever they can spin themselves out of the situation.

My own Declaration, I need help.
by Medina ini wrote my own medical declaration in order to cancel the right of any excisting paper of the jws to interfere with my blood transfusion, may it come down to that.
i need help, what does fail, are there some grammatical issue#s?.
medical declaration.
-
Alfred
Medina... I would consult a lawyer who specializes in medical litigation (but that's just me)... it will probably be expensive, but I'm sure it will be money well spent... particularly if you're expecting a possible need for a transfusion in the near future...

JWs Celebrating Brithdays
by Franklin Massey ini keep hearing of more and more jws that are celebrating their birthdays or, doing "special days" for their children on the day of their birth.
i'm sure this has always been done but what interests me is that many people aren't ashamed to admit it since they have used their own fully functioning minds to figure out that the society's birthday ban doesn't hold up.
one young couple with two kids (he's an ms, she's an ex-pioneer who dropped off the list to tend to the kids) explained it to me this way.... "the happiest days of our lives include the births of our children.

It all about money... money for gifts means less money in the KH contribution boxes.
Imagine what would happen if the WTBT$ gave the green light and left holidays to everyone's conscience... I estimate that donations would decrease by at least 60%!!! This would send the GB packing within a few months...

Unbelieveable Bethel Talk-'Are you being brainwashed?'
by Joliette in...cause surely, friends, were not brainwashing you!.
http://www.jwbrothers.org/play_audio.php?audio=1124&/.
-
Alfred
There will be more and more talks about "brainwashing" from the WTBTS in the next few years as more people gain access to instant information on the net... Their message will basically be: "Don't look in our closet. If you try to, this means you're being brainwashed by Satan."

New light on reporting child molestors...
by Snoozy ini have a few witnesses on my facebook so i thought "why not"... i posted this article on america's most wanted that featured frederick mclean..the jw child molestor..been on the run since 2004.. http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=35566.
so i comment on how i though they caught this guy but i guess they didn't as it was updated in dec.. so the jw gal i know in australia ( i knew the family when they were in the states) replies to the post.
she comments with this..:.

Alfred
JW Gal in Australia responded:
Jehovah wants our loyalty but has no need of us to cover over our sins to protect him. "
Notice how the Borg has conditioned the rank and file to deflect attention away from the F&DS with statements such as these...
It's as if we're expected to believe that the "old light" required Jay Dubs to hide pedophiles' sins to protect Jehovah's name (when in reality it was really to protect the WTBTS).... Am I the only one who caught this?

Is it normal to quote without naming the source like WT does?
by InterestedOne ini am noticing here and there that the wt literature will say things like "one bible dictionary says ..." or "one scholar says ..." and then proceed with a quotation.
my immediate reaction is to ask myself why they didn't provide the specific source of the quote - author, publication, page #, etc.
so i am wondering, do other magazines do this?
-
Alfred
Not normal...
The Society has a long standing practice of not naming their sources... and whenever they do, they usually take quotes completely out of context to fit their doctrine. For example, their "Trinity brochure" is thoroughly loaded with quotes from encylopedias and dictionaries that are completely taken out of context to prove that the Bible doesn't teach the Trinity doctrine. But the WTBTS doesn't care about this at all because they know the rank and file will always trust the Writing Committee as if they get information directly from God. They also know that no one really goes through the trouble of looking up any of their quotes...
