Boogeymen
by Farkel inhave you ever noticed that people who are not to be completely trusted always have boogeymen?
i've learned over the years that boogeymen and liars walk hand-in-hand, every single time.. dubs have satan, demons and the beliefs of virtually every other religion and philosophy.
dubs leaders have "apostates" and their followers (yes.

"Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers"
by EndofMysteries in2 cor 6:14 .
always been given that scripture about marrying someone who is not a jw or same belief.
while that may be true, i just realized when reading vs 14-17 that was talking about the congregation.

I always thought that might mean things like
If you are terribly smart, don't marry someone as dumb as a box of rocks, .....it will be frustrating
Seriously, if that meant only someone of another faith, I think the bible would have made a much bigger deal of it. You can't quote one scripture and try and make everything else fit just that one scripture. In the OT, the Jews took wives from captives, etc, etc....

Summer Assembly and Botox
by GrandmaJones inanother no-no from the wt.
this was obviously some sort of manuscript talk, i was there and heard it at the st. louis assembly and asked around, and i know it was at other district conventions.
what business is this for the fds to be in, not a scriptual affair at all.

"Jesus could have masturbated but didn't cause his dad didn't approve and he "Jesus" knew daddy was watchin"
I would have to disagree with the idea of this, but not of the WT interpretation. If you go by the bible and nothing else, then you will see that it condemns certain types of sexual behavior including beastiality, but makes NO MENTION of masturbation. Obviously the scriptures are not so prissy as to descriptions as to reason that "masturbation" is not discussed but beastiality can be. I always told my children that the WT is nuts on that subject, and that it is normal human behaviour, and the lack of discussion of it in the bible is proof of that. I did suggest to them however, that I'd prefer they did this privately, and in their own rooms. (That's true, but funny, don't you think?)

I don't believe my boyfriend is 100% committed to this religion. How to handle?
by herlovelyworld inhi guys!
im very new here and i need a little help.. im not a witness, but i know all of the quirks and rules and whatnot because my long-distance boyfriend is a witness.
the issue, other than the obvious, is that i fell in love with him before he told me he was one of jehovahs witnesses.

I don't think it's a good idea to read this websight to him right now. I think I'd just ask questions to make him think. Don't confront him with his current actions. You just might guilt him back to the congregation. There is a lot of potential for fading here since he can move to you and just stay under the radar. If he stays gone for three or four years, probably no one will bother him. How old are you?

by Gorbatchov init changed.. i remember when the secretary of the congregation informed my father secretly about the times magazine article on raymond franz in 1982.. i remember the heated discussions in the family about the new dissfellowship rules +/- 1980. .
i remember the release of the revelation book in +/- 1987 (presented on a way the end was coming and very near!).
i remember the 1995 change of this generation doctrine.

Witness Funeral--to go ot not to go?
by ValiantBoy inmy 78 year old great-uncle is very ill and is expected to pass away within the next couple of days.
he has been being receiving chemo for a few weeks (which he appeared to be responding to), but then he developed severe pneumonia and then had a massive heart attack a few days ago.
he now has a blood infection, and his liver and kidneys have quit functioning.

Of course go and support your family on this occasion, just as they supported you and their daughter. I think current funeral talks are already prescribed in a set format now, so perhaps that will not be an issue. Perhaps the congregation is more liberal since they have apparently not "marked" your Aunt and Uncle for their stand with regard to disfellowshipped one and inactive ones. They will need you comfort. If things get uncomfortable, just give your Aunt and your Grandma a sweet kiss, and tell them you love them, but you don't feel real welcome and you'll see them later, and then leave. I think it is a kindness on your part, but only you know what this congregation is like, and you must use your own judgement and not substitute mine for yours. You are in the position to know what is the very best thing you can do. I wish you all comfort in this very sad time.

What business is this for the FDS to be in, not a scriptual affair at all. They used the "braiding of the hair" as support. It's getting ridiculous how the organization is inserting itself into everything. Next thing, they'll tell the sisters they can't color their hair.

EXPLOSIVE RUTHERFORD THREAD RESTORED
by Farkel inwhat i consider to be my most important contribution to this board had become corrupted somehow and i thought lost.
while rooting around for some other information, i found a site that had reconstructed the entire 28 page thread!
the thread is much more important than just what i contributed, because many, many people spent money and time doing further research and thread took on a life of its own.. this is an introduction provided at the site i found:.

It is truly an amazing thread. It takes quite awhile to read, but it was soooooo worth it! Thanks to Farkel for starting it, and to Leolaia, Merry-- and others who contributed such quality research. Thank you. Thank you.
