I don't think this is the usual process. You could ask them if their fund has been sanctioned by the elders in the congregation and whether they have registered this fund with the appropriate authorities.

Wt today and funding special pioneers
by Daisychaindream indoes anyone else feel like it was just a way to beg for donations!!!.
the society gives them a minimal wage to preach 130 hours so we should be the ones sending them money and good and clothes.
it's not like they help the community they go to, i've known missionaries when i was younger who were in deepest darkest soith america in villages with no water, instead of passing in skills and worthwhile tools they just study then go home.

A fourth generation JW on the way

Xanthippe, I didn't pick up on that, sorry.
I hope that he is here and that he takes your advice. Having children is a very important time to reflect on what one hopes and plans for that child. Certainly the JW religion restricts many things that we may otherwise aim for on behalf of our children.
I know of some JW families that are not preventing their children from higher education but when the father is in a prominent position they are not likely afforded this opportunity. The father can lose his position if he allows his children to recieve higher education.
I don't know if your nephew does hold any positions in the religion and if he does, or may in the future, he should consider how much time this will take away from enjoying a full family life. My father was an elder and we saw so little of him, he was usually sitting in his office and working on various JW duties, including study, public talk presentations and various other responsibilities. We had very little fun times, just doing things together.
We weren't allowed to do any out of school activities like sport and it was probably just as well as he would not have had the time to drive us around let alone watch us.
It is worth the time to investigate the religion, both its past and its beliefs as he now has the responsibility of teaching his own child.

Sorry, but there is no way I would send this letter, there is too much bible bashing and it is not going to reach out to a JW.

Let's not forget that marujanna also leads to homsexuality.
W 73 3/15
We ask: Marihuana, ‘an approach to paradise’? Homosexuality and suicide—instant paradise?......
It might be added that a marked characteristic of marihuana users, particularly females, was the unusual degree of sexual promiscuity, both with individuals of the opposite sex and of the same sex. This was true among those who had engaged in no sexual promiscuity before using marihuana. The incidence of venereal diseases was high.

There's an interesting article W 88 10/15 dealing with mental illnesses. It does have a more considerate view of mental illnesses and it encourages elders to be of assistance and if it is serious then professional help is called for. Then it goes way off track with the following statement
So if the elders have good reason to suspect that demonic influence is involved, there is no harm in their making some inquiry. Has the person, for example, received any suspicious items directly and deliberately from individuals who are involved in some form of demonism? Disposal of such objects may bring relief. (Acts 19:18-20) Since Christians are told to “oppose the Devil,” the elders can also advise the afflicted one to reject any strange “voices” that could be of demonic origin. (James 4:7; Matthew 4:10) If a person feels under attack, he should pray fervently, calling upon Jehovah’s name out loud.—Ephesians 6:18; Proverbs 18:10.
Demonic involvement, however, appears to be the exception

NPGs (non practicing gays - I'd never heard the term before) were condemned - have to be transformed not just wear a mask. Wonder if they'll ever publish that one.
I can just imagine the sort of lectures the elder will give, with no understanding and being cold and bold. So how is the person going to demonstrate that they have been transformed? The most obvious way would be to marry a person of the opposite sex. This is a sick organization.

Yet, “the poor,” the Bible says, “are not even threatened.” How can you benefit from that gem of wisdom? If you live in an area known for crime and violence or if you have to travel to such a place, do not attract attention to yourself by appearing to be affluent. Think carefully about what you wear and carry in public, especially if your possessions would be noticed.
It is good advice and advice you will find anywhere, we try do this when we travel to third world countries, looking more like backpackers. We can't do anything about speaking and looking like a local though.
What is annoying about the Awake comment is that they have taken the scripture out of context. The bible is discussing individuals who are in reality poor, not ones who appear to be.

Wal-Mart Workers Plan Huge Protest on Black Friday
by talesin inwal-mart, which pays a top wage of $12.00+ to its full-time employees, is under attack, once again, by its employees and those who would like to unionize them.. i can't speak to the usa, but here in canada, most wal-mart employees are not full time.
it is mostly a part-time employer, so zero benefits.
in my opinion, that makes the $12.00+ look a lot smaller when you envision the actual paycheque.

Yes, Talesin. I work 15 hours a week and we paid off our house 15 years ago so we don't pay any rent. I don't know about eating real food though, it is very hard to find, even most of the fruit and vegies from the Supermarket are pretty tastleless these days. I get the same basic benefits as a full time worker.
Both my husband and I have worked part time, by choice, throughout our working career.
I understand that a part time wage may not be enough for many to live on. I can't see why this would be a problem for most couples if they were both part timers.
I live in Australia and the employment laws we have here help to protect the worker and are seen to be reasonable. I would rather see all my children employed, even if it was part time than to see only half of them employed full time.
